    Thanks again for making this review. I went to use this cheap $30 manual spray mop I bought at a drug store for the second time when lo and behold it broke in the same place the last one did. I've been through three manual types in the last 2 years. Your review immediately came to mind so here I am using your video to find it online and buying it to end my cleaning suffering. Long live vacuum wars for being so awesome! I can't wait to clean my place better than ever before.

    on our second Bissell. First one stopped making steam after about 1.5 years, but may have something to do with adding Fabuloso to the water tank... just using distilled water now in the second one and splashing Fabuloso around the tile floor, still going strong 2.5 years later.

      You are just wasting your money, if it is for the fragrance (I cannot stand the odour of chemicals), you could spray some lemon juice for example with diluted vinegar in a spray bottle. Vinegar neutralises odour and the smell of vinegar goes away when it's evaporated but the lemon scent will pleasantly linger on.

    I bought the Bissell Power Fresh on a whim at Walmart after wanting something better than our Swiffer Wet Jet. Girlfriend was skeptical but I saw a lot of 5 star reviews that didn't seem fake or sponsored so I thought I'd give it a go. Her skepticism didn't last long once she saw how clean the floors were afterwards. If all you're used to is a Swiffer Wet Jet then the Bissell is a huge upgrade. Something I found worth noting though: in the instructions it says to wait 30 seconds after plugging in before selecting the steam level. I found that after selecting a steam level it takes about 30-60 seconds for the steam to fully soak into the mop pad. During this period it feels like the mop is dragging and as the mop pad saturates it became easier to mop and about after a minute I could move the mop as I expected. This was on tile floors and at the max steam setting. I don't see this as a downside because once it gets soaked with steam the mop is absolutely amazing and can cut through any sticky messes with little to no effort. The only other minor complaint is that since the power cable is flat it can be tricky to get the plug to snap onto the rest of the cable when winding it up, to the point where I had to use two hands to get it to snap together.
    One big positive for me was that I ended up getting it for $20 due to a pricing error on Walmart's part (which had it listed for $80) which is probably the closest I'll get to winning the lottery and I felt like I was stealing when I was taking it to my car. For that price it's a no brainer.

    When I cleaned houses, the cheap shark steam mops were ESSENTIAL so I was torn between these two. I'm so appreciative for this side by side review because I was nervous to consider the Bissell. I have a crosswave which I actually don't love that I'm looking to replace with a steam mop, and was hesitant to trust Bissell again. Especially given my great last experiences with the shark. Knowing they perform the same but the features of the Bissell meet my needs better was invaluable. Thank you again!

    I was going back and forth with which steam mop to go with. I ended up choosing a Bissell 1940 for 47.00 on eBay and it says it is in mint condition, and comes with 2 replacement mop pads plus has the scent discs that everyone mentioned in the reviews. I’m so glad I chose the Bissell, because I didn’t want to have to pump the mop for steam. Your video was so helpful.

    Just purchased the shark plug in model and what really gravitated me towards it despite it's short comings was it's dual sided fabric. Longer and farther clean, and allows one to use one side as a mop while the other as a "rinse" option. A lot of draw backs for sure and less convenient but for $40 new I couldn't pass it up. Also there is a LOT of steam coming off it. Great review. Thanks.

    Bissell is my go to brand as well because of their durability. I’ve tried shark and really wanted to love it. They’ve got great marketing that got me excited for the product but they end up being disposable. You can usually find replacement parts for bissell so if something happens, you can keep your machine going.

  • @Chagrin-q5v

    Great vid! I’ve always been a shark guy, using one model for years 😂 I hate change. However it’s time for me to replace and right now there is a better deal on price with bissel and your very clear communication on this video helped me decide. The self standing thing is huge, as well as the detachable water ‘tank’.
    Thank you!

    I've watched ALL of your videos in your channel, they're very informative. A few months ago I got the Shark Steam and Scrub, it's their new model. And it really sucks, it's bad. It didn't absorb dirt, it just like a floating steamer not doing anything. So I returned and then saw the Bissell Crossave Pet Pro. I saw it in commercial in 2017 and I saw it in one of your videos so I'm like I'll give that a try. And OMG I'm in love with the Crosswave so easy to use, leaves my home smelling fresh! My floors feel like new after they're mopped, your videos helped me choose the Crosswave and I can't thank you enough.

    I'm loving your videos. I'm looking for a steam mop and a cordless vacuum and you're making it so much easier to choose. I obsess over choosing the best products for my needs so I don't have regrets later.
    I do think it's a big advantage to having the flippable mop head - I would go over an area with one side, and then with the 2nd side each time, therefore picking up more dirt. Each time I start a new area I'd use the 1st side again. Too bad because the Bissell seems so much better in too many ways to not get it just because of one feature

    Good video as always! I appreciate your giving out the model numbers. I just found a Bissell 1940A(2018) with its carpetglider (minus microfiber pads) in the dumpster today. It heats up with no apparent leaks. So if I don't find any microfiber pads in the dumpster, I'll have to go out and get me some to fully test it. If it works, I'll make a video(keywords "Marshall Curtis" and "vacuums") of it and keep it. Otherwise I'll just take it to Goodwill for scrap.

    I bought the bissel 1940 steam mop a few years ago and only used it maybe 5 times and it started to leak from behind. After some research it seams that the old and newer versions do the same after only a few uses. I loved my mop and now I have to look for another one, cause why by one if they are having problems leaking, so be carefull

    • @rxonmymind8362

      I just bought one. What appealed to me was the dual side of fabric which allows one to mop on one side while "rinsing" on the other.
      I also like the fact with an extra fabric the dual sided mop can take you a longer distance without mopping with a dirty fabric. Just flip it over. There is a lot of inconvenience with this mop but for me the pros were obvious. All these steam mops with the single sided mop fabric just did not appeal to me. It's like taking a dirty rag and washing the car with it.

    Some of the advantages of the Bissell are now on the newer models of the shark. Examples are but not all. The newer shark has a longer cord now 22" I believe, you do not have to use a pump action on the handle,it now has a removable water tank, it has three steam settings, and an on off switch. The shark has a two sided mop so you have to change the pad as often. However it does not stand on its own.

    I may be mistaken, but transferring water over in 2:45 doesn't compare how much water is *used*, only how water much is *left*. Different sized containers could start with different amounts of water.

    I was gifted the Shark S1000 series. Purchased from Walmart for about $40. Plugged it in and mopped my small BR after dusting and mopping with a WetJet. The Steam mop picked up alot more built in dirt which was nice. It glided pretty well once the steam was activated. I didn't see any extra tools in the box. Can stand up on its on and is pretty lite even when loaded with water. I have 2 cats so I needed this tool even though it's one of the cheaper models. Works well for what I need. Floors dried pretty quickly and I will definitely use this 2x a week to keep my floors sanitized and clean.

    In my opinion the biggest upgrade to vacuum cleaners in last 30 years was removal of the cord. Now that stick vacuums are so great I’m not getting a mop with a cord. They need to hurry up and figure out how to make steam with battery power. :)

      Right. I went back to 2:10 and was hoping he would have put a measured volume of water into each. Instead he just filled each of to their tanks "to the top"which only makes sense if the tanks have equal capacity - something we don't know yet.

    I wanted to say, I'm the person who bought the shark vertex, it has been a great vacuum so far, however I went to go pick up some bigger clumps of dog hair and started smelling a burning smell, when I looked down I realized the hair was melting onto the soft roller brush, and now some of the hair is melted on so tightly we cant get it off, luckily we can buy a new roller if we really need to, but yeah that was slightly terrifying.

    Do these types of mops require you to apply some pressure/scrubbing force like a normal mop would, or do they do the job by simply swiping back and forth (more like a vaccuming motion)? I have some injuries which keep me from pressing downward, but I can swipe back and forth (like a vacuum). I hope this makes sense!

  • @therealtrucker7564

    Personally I would have put an equal amount of water ie: 1 cup in each then remeasured after the test. Because it looks like the bissel reservoir holds more than the shark to begin with (I could be wrong). However, great comparison as always with your channel. 👌🏻

    You need to test the Bissell against the next level Shark, which is in the same price point as the Bissell. It has a button and 2 modes. I like the fact I can flip it to a clean side.

    We purchased a Bissell Power Fresh approximately 6 weeks ago. It stopped creating steam last week. We used tap water because that is what the HSN presentation told us to do. However, does the Bissell actually require distilled water? Thank you for your reply.

    • @GarlandTexasSpotter2024
      @GarlandTexasSpotter2024 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You need to use Distilled Water or Filtered Water to use with the steam mop. Tap Water can cause buildup of salts, which can clog the pipes.

    Just bought a Power Fresh Steam "Deluxe" after using a Shark for years (finally broke) and its steam power seems incredibly low. The water does not dry as fast because the steam doesn't seem to be as hot- was disappointed that it only has 2 steam settings vs. the standard version's 3 settings. Perhaps it would be better to switch?

    I live in the country and have three dogs and several cats. They come in and out of the house all the time and I have all tile and laminate floor in the house. I'm a mop fanatic and I have both of these mops. My housekeeper and I argue over mopping lol. I always wet the pads and mop. She says you were supposed to use them dry. I understand you can use them dry but to me the wet pad in combination with the steam really cleans the floor because I don't think how just steam and a dry pad would really work. What is your opinion on a dry pad versus a pre-soaked wet pad?

    • @l.johnson2015
      @l.johnson2015 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know you didnt ask me but I agree with you. I have 6 indoor cats. I actually throw down some hot water and a lil baking soda and some Clorox or Lysol sanitizer on my laminate floors. I actually sweep 1st, then use a wet pad like a swifter thing to pick up all the cat hairs and paw prints. Then I lastly use my shark steam mop. I also noticed washing the shark pads come out much more cleaner with Lysol sanitizer vs just using bleach and detergent.

    • @AfterDark33
      @AfterDark33 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have my doubts about that one. Steam mops use A LOT of power, and when I say a lot, I mean it. 1500 watts worth, or as much as a typical full sized upright vacuum or for more tangible comparison, a large space heater on full power. Boiling water is very energy intensive and a battery capable of outputting that much power would be very large and very heavy.

      @@kalebanoe6176 I’m not an electrical engineer, but knowing what I do about electronics, it would need something the size of a deep cycle lithium RV battery to be able to run such a thing for any usable amount of time, not to mention those batteries are over a thousand dollars a piece.

      The best Milwaukee power tool batteries right now are running at 8 Ah at 18V or or 144 Watt hours. We'd need something about 5 times that capacity to run a steam mop for half and hour (1500W x 1/2hr)
