    You seriously have the perfect voice/tone for audio guidance in my opinion. Thank you for sharing your knowledge instead of keeping these valued secrets from people who crave enhancement.

    As always a superb video, in my honest opinion you are one of the best "real" photographers on TH-cam. Your tutorial are always well explained with great real life examples. I think I’m going to be playing with my light table over the weekend. You may not realise it but you are raising money for a very worthwhile Disability charity. You give me idea that I print off and sell for said charity. Totally agree it doesn’t have to be the massive vistas to be landscape photography, most of my 120 images are what 8 call micro or intimate landscapes.

    First time on your channel Ray and enjoyed this first video so thanks for that!
    If you have a minute (or someone else here on you tube) What type of light would you suggest for the back light.
    I see the lightbox and the 'basic' glass/stack CDs option but what light color? ... I suppose I can play around and experiment but was curious if there are + and - and/or a preference.

    • @VisualArtPhotography
      @VisualArtPhotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you have joined the channel Serge. Almost any kind of basic light works well. You can use different light temperature bulbs or do your white balancing in post. I always try to keep my photography as simple as possible without too much math involved because 1. I’m lousy at mathematics and 2. It’s just not necessary. I don’t even take that much care in camera with white balance... I put it on auto white balance...because I do my corrections in Lightroom. Experiment experiment experiment and have a ton of fun Serge. Good luck and have a great day.

    In a previous video on a tip to get max dof with macro photography you use a focus rail?What type is it,manufacturer and cost. Is it a stable rail (holding lense steady)as in many reviews of rails some are not very stable. Thanks!! I use a canon 100mm macro.

    • @VisualArtPhotography
      @VisualArtPhotography  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Irwin. I sometimes use a Manfrotto 454 macro focusing rail that I purchased many many years ago.It sells for a little over $100 US. I will say it is extremely sturdy and well built. It's ALL metal. The thing is its motion is restricted to only backwards and forwards which is okay but you may want to look at something that also moves left to right as well for maximum flexibility. Those rails are a little more expensive but may be worth checking out. Just make sure they are solid. In terms of holding the lens, you actually mount the camera on the rail and things are incredibly stable. There is also a micro adjustment that moves the camera in tiny increments for critical focusing projects. Hope that helps and have a great day.

      If it's macro photography that gets you going I have a playlist with a whole lot of videos about this subject. If you're a beginner, there is a playlist with videos that can help you get started. Try them out and let me know how they work for you. Thanks and have a great day!

    Hello,
    Can you please provide a manufacturer description of the micro focus rail that you used

    • @VisualArtPhotography
      @VisualArtPhotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gerri. It’s an old Manfrotto macro focusing rail. It only moves back to front. Newer ones also move from side to side which can be really helpful.

    It looks like you put dye on it for a science project. Question: What about composition in this instance? Im trying to wrap around how to do that.

    • @VisualArtPhotography
      @VisualArtPhotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there. The backlighting is key in terms of bringing out the color and texture. As far as composition goes, keep the leaf as flat as possible and move to around for what you think is the most pleasing presentation. I happen to like diagonals in my photography so for some shots you’ll see the spine of the leaf travelling that way across the frame. Hope that helps.

    • @ELBlDu
      @ELBlDu 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TY, I was noticing the diagonal line,

    what lens was that and do you just use the part thats in focus in a crop i can't seem to get from end to end in focus with my 105 nikkor macro lens

    • @VisualArtPhotography
      @VisualArtPhotography  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Larry. I use a Canon 100mm f/4L macro lens. I sometimes add on Kenko extension tubes for greater magnification. As far as being in focus from corner to corner it's really important that your lens is at the exact same focal plane as the subject. I have a tutorial on that very thing. Here's the link...th-cam.com/video/OavVED9GKro/w-d-xo.html.
