Amazing how much Christopher's son, William, looks like his father! Thank you so much to the Reeve family for their sacrifice and continued involvement in the fight for the wellbeing of disabled people everywhere!
My husband was paralyzed by a medical mistake. We fought for his life for 9 years before he had kidney failure, due to the inability to fully empty his bladder & constant infections. People don't realize how many serious issues are caused by paralysis. Soon these things will be very small & easy to use for everyone. No more being paralyzed for people.
There's still a large percentage of the world without clean drinking water, so you either do not know what you are talking about, or your world view is quite small.
Seeing this all I could think of was Christopher Reeve and how happy he'd be to see such a day come to pass--imagine then seeing his son (whom I was not aware of) -that familiar smile in the rock superman chin brought me tears!!
I'm bawling with happiness about this breakthrough. This will lessen human suffering so much, cause people to overcome things we never could have dreamed of in the past....and the fact that Christopher Reeve's son is one of the people reporting it?! This is an important sprout of hope for humanity, consciousness, and the bridge from the general population fearing AI to embracing, loving, and understanding the concept.
This isn't AI so much as its a wireless connection (Bluetooth legs, inbound! Lol) but after the whole cov!d fiasco??? Medical science needed this win. And very much deserves it imo. Truly incredible ❤
Hope they get more funding. I remember old news story about the same thing over 10 years ago. Guy had similar stuff inserted into his legs. After funding ended, he was left with the stuff in his legs that after awhile needed to be removed 😢
I remember when he was a lil kid on Sesame Street when his dad made an appearance talking about life as a paraplegic. Where has the time gone. Keep up the good work Will. Ur parents are smiling down on you

@Sunny bob Quackers i think it has to do with the decoded electrical impulses. So they most likely modeled the input of electrical impulses from the brain to obtain a usable output that would be transferred to the lower spine (most likely using a neural network, or perhaps spectral clustering). The model was probably trained with a data set of electrical impulses, and the output was either a movement of the limb - trained on non-paralyzed subjects perhaps -, or another electrical impulse to the lower spine (both of which would probably use some sort of neural network), or perhaps an array of useful patterns (which would use clustering i'd say) which then translate into an electrical impulse. Just like Captcha trains its AI to recognize objects from images, so did these guys, just with electrical impulses from other electrical impulses.
