The 70s also did a Edwardian revival too you can see elements in The Stepford Wives film, Kate Bushes music videos , Picnic at Hanging Rock film. Also the popularity of Beardsley, William Morrison and other art nouveau prints. It’s my favourite 70s look.
the 70s is one of my favourite decades politically and aesthetically. the medieval revival as well as the edwardian and deco revival is so incredibly beautiful
Emma Rosa-- Whilst listening to this, I got out my jewelry making supplies. I made a beautiful pair ruby and pearl medieval-inspired earrings. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
Medievalism is ho I dressed in 70's and now that I have retired and am free from the armor of suits i may add it back in and have a little romance and magic in my wardrobe. Thanks for this video
My mum (from England) sewed a floor length cape for herself in the 60s made from black velvet with red lining which looks just like the capes in your video. She said that there was a lot of overlap of styles (boho/medieval/hippie etc). Thanks for your video, very interesting ❤️
thank you for making this video, this is perhaps my most favorite style within 60s/70s fashion, and lately I have been looking to it so much for inspiration, I always thought of it as a 60s ren faire vibe haha, there's something so charming and irresistible about the psychedelic colors and aesthetics of the 60s/70s merging with romantic renaissance motifs/silhouettes, Romeo and Juliet is one of my favorite movies and another movie from this time that I think captures this style beautifully is Jacques Demys Peau d"Ane. There could never be enough of this style for me and its so cool that so many musicians from the time also incorporated a romantic mythic folk element to their sound, everything about the medieval revival is just so beautiful
I know that Zefferelli's Romeo and Juliet gets all the love, but if you can find it watch Brother Sun Sister Moon. It has a very late 60's vibe, and is a retelling of the life of St. Francis of Assisi. Also has a fabulous soundtrack by Donovan!
And in fashion, we have Jessica of Gunnesax (just like gunny sacks) making her medieval pun and doing neomedieval styles as well as the prairie styles. I have a short prairie dress and a long medieval that I wore several times to SCA as German Renaissance. Both feature her then signature hemp guimpe as trim.
I enjoyed! medieval revival is another amazing style of 60s and 70s, I really like those movies Romeo and Juliet and Wanderwall , I'm glad you mentioned Incredible string band I really like them , I want to mention Jethro Tull , especially Ian anderson dressed of medieval inspiration and their music there are element of medieval folk; great work Emma
This video is amazing!! And you look gorgeous!!!! This is my favorite fashion movement EVER. Thank you for the Pinterest board as well, I am gonna use some images for drawing reference!
I really love fashion history. I'm glad you went so far back in history. I think this topic need it. The colors were so bright in the 60s and 70s. the clothes feel so fun and cheerful. It was so interesting to see all the photos you found. I've never seen any of them. I learned so much from this video.
I'm only partway in but I'm enjoying this video so much! I love how you express the feelings of escapism and give lots of examples of both the authentic era and the different levels of revival. Fashion history has always intrigued me but I didn't know much about this style. Your personal aesthetic in this is also quite enchanting
This is definitely one of my favorite styles of the late 60s/70s. It's so beautiful and ethereal.🖤🔮 Also, you did such a gorgeous job on your outfit/makeup!
I really enjoyed this video for many reasons. I've long been a student of Medieval history. Most of the podcasts I listen to involve Medieval history. Also, I well remember the revival of Medieval style of 60s and 70s. I had a girlfriend at one time that loved Renaissance fairs. I know it wasn't true to actual history, but it was a romanticized version. Chivalry (the code of conduct) is nothing like what it really was - horse bros stealing anything their neighbors couldn't defend. Speaking of podcasts - I just wanted to express how much I enjoyed the Dolls pod on Ronnie Spector (abuse from Phil Spector aside). She was an amazing singer and so ahead of her time. I'm glad you and Abby played the duet she did with Eddie Money. I had that album and was happy she had a bit of a comeback. Each of the Dolls episodes keeps getting better. I especially like the conversations you and Abby have, and I like how you tell how you relate to the subject from your points of view. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
I can't help but connect the aesthetics of the hippies, the bohemians, and other counter cultures of this time as in a tangential way, a rejection of Anglo, American, and North Western European Protestantism, the Protestant Work Ethic, and the Protestant ideas of modesty and prudence and in its own way an embrace of Catholic Medieval Europe. Though virtually all Christians today view the art and ornate designs of medieval Catholic/Gothic European cathedrals with high regard and and high praise, for centuries, Protestants in England, North America, and Northwestern Europe looked down on the Catholic counterpart as excessive, imprudent, sometimes even calling the ornate artistry of Catholicism wasteful and idolatrous. The middle ages and Catholicism were both maligned as backwards, less progressive. The Protestant Work Ethic is, among other things, the guiding principle of the Anglo-Saxon culture and most other English-speaking nations. Though its not like the hippies were attending mass or praying the rosary- creating communes, partying, psychedelic trips are far from a traditional Catholic life-- I feel a very faint echo of Old European Catholicism in these subcultures.
This was my first video of yours that I watched, and it was excellent 😊 I'm curious whether the burgeoning witchcraft & pagan movement in the UK fits in with all of this. Some similar esthetics there.
You might add Zeffirelli's *Brother Sun, Sister Moon* from 1972, *The Warlord* from 1965, 1967's *Camelot* from the Broadway musical (huge hit), And the founding of the Society for Creative Anachronism.
I love your videos but sometimes you repeat the same frases a lot and it made it sound like you are using AI for your scripts. I dont know if its because english isnt your first lenguage, or what, but it sounds like you use chatgpt
Thanks for letting me know! I usually write my scripts partially in English & partially in German. Then I translate everything but I felt like my eloquence doesn’t quite translate to English. So sometimes I’ll use AI to suggest me improved sentences so that’s where it might come from. Thanks again for letting me know, I’ll be more aware of it now xx
@@EmmaRosaKatharina i undestand not feeling eloquent enough in english, is my second language. As a suggestion, maybe put a disclaimer that you use AI for translation purposes only? So no one thinks that you are using AI to do your research. Your English is awesome and i hope you keep doing videos 💕
What fascinates me is the medieval look in sci-fi
Star Trek was crazy with that.

I’ve seen that movie too and it’s so fabulous! I’ve actually been to Assisi before and while walking the streets I’ve listened to Donovan’s music 💌

Fantastic observation!

I like the Baroque Pop sounds of the 60s too- Lefte Banke etc ❤

Such a wonderful video Emma!!!!!! I feel so connected and inspired ❤❤❤
A very insightful and thorough video! Great job! I love this aesthetic!
Another cinematic exemplar of this trend was the 1967 film, Camelot.
GOATED VIDEO

I call this hippie goth and ive been doing it for well over a decade 😂 i know early black sabbath albums inspired it for me.
Hey this is super off topic, but i can't place her accent. Does anyone know?
She's German
🤍🤍
