He has always been the sweetest person I have known. He was so humorous in school and he was a pleasure to be around. It's been many years since I have seen you and I am so happy you have found the strength to move forward. Congrats to you and your love. I'm so happy for you.
I remember this! This kid would've been the next Shawn white for sure, if not better. He was gifted. Sad to see that come to an end for him, but amazing to see where he's at and what he's doing now. Glad he's found that passion again.
he would've been better than Shawn... if anything, we could've had one of the absolute greatest rivalries in all of sports... not just extreme sports, but sports in general.
No, there wouldn't of been a "next Shaun white." It would of been "who's the next Kevin Pearce?" Snowboarding would of been in a better place if this guy was what represented Snowboarding, not this super jock mentality Shaun white brought. White is why halfpipe is not as popular as it used to be, he made it lame with boot grabs.
@@steeleal1mark mcmorris was no Shaun White or Kevin Pearce. Mark was a great snowboarder, but even in his prime, he didn’t have the style nor subconscious ability to push the boundaries of snowboarding, he was just excellent at competing within the boundaries set by Shaun and Kevin, which is a complement in itself
@@steeleal1and I’m a Canadian snowboarder, I just strongly don’t think that national pride should overlay objective skill. Snowboarding was born in America, and Canada has been fortunate to build upon the foundations that were formed in Michigan, and then California
OMG sound like my sons story from 2011 except that my son was not snowboarding he was assaulted by group of 14 drunk teenagers . Very similar injury ,rehabilitation etc .TBI is very nasty injury to have and It will take your live away .Only very small percentage of patients ever recover from it in 100% .God bless you and your wife my friend .long and happy live in front of you.I know exactly what you went through.
As a recreational boarder I'd followed Kevin's accident at the time but only really got to a level of understanding what had happened through the Crash Reel. The film has been an inspiration to friends who have experienced TBIs themselves (though thankfully to a far lesser extent than Kevin's. It is absolutely heartwarming to see him achieve such great things in regard to helping others and to have arrived at a great place in his own life. Ride for Kevin.
"Recreational." You're no snowboarder if call yourself that. Real snowboarders are equals across the board, doesn't matter if you're a pro competing or a grom filming his first 360 in his backyard. Jock mentality is what's hurting Snowboarding, if truly followed Kevin, you'd know that as what was represented with the frends crew.
I've been snowboarding since I was like 14... and Kevin was my absolute favorite!! it wasn't just his ability, but his style... he always seemed cooler. a lot more shy than most of his snowboarding counterparts and always a bit more awkward, but his style on the snow was just... daring. he pushed it hard, he always soared past his limits. he was a daredevil!! then his injury happened, and it really crushed a lot of us... fearing the worst, we thought we had lost him. I've always been so very grateful that he managed to survive, but it hurt knowing we'd never see him tear big mountains and 30 foot halfpipes ever again. still, seeing his journey? where he's come from? it's so incredible to see him reach the goals that he has!! he's such an incredible inspiration. snowboarding never really lost a legend, they just gained a hero.
I remember you Kevin, I saw your story, your amazing/difficult recupration/your strong family support unit. I'm really glad you have recovered fully, and have found something to be passionate about, congrats to you and your brother 👍👍👍
What a great guy and a great family. I saw Crash Reel and it was a privilege to watch his journey to a new life. Very hopeful for other people who don’t have a brain injury. We all struggle with something.
I just watched the Film. What a Beautiful Soul, backed by a Fantastic Family. He could have reached the highest goals, and His acceptance of the "New" Kevin, showed His strength of character. His Brother,David,is adorable, and will,i`m sure, help any person with Downs Syndrome, gain more understanding. It was so sad how He was totally aware that He had this difference, and there wasn`t a chance of changing it. I was uneducated, regarding Downs Syndrome, and i guess i believed that people with Downs Syndrome, did not have that kind of self awareness. The Film was shocking at times,to see the casualties of the Sport.
"Training run" He was out with his homies snowboarding like every other day all snowboarders experience. It's no jock bs like shaun white made it look like. Snowboarding lost alot when Kevin lost his spot to the Olympics. Rip frends crew.
Watched crash reel and my god devastating especially when they all sat down to talk about boarding again cause I can understand from both sides your passion is what you live for but when you injure your brain like that its a massive risk
I respect him and his story but what does he do for a living? I mean it’s great that he overcame his injury and it’s great he’s helping others but now it just seems like he’s living the “life of Riley” so to speak. Looks like he came from a good wealthy family and I know he has the “Love your Brain” thing which is non profit and is great but it just seems like he just travels the world surfing and boarding again now. I just wonder what he does for a living and how he can afford and maintain such a seemingly carefree lifestyle. I mean it’s like “well I’m in Hong Kong, now it’s onto Bali!” And so forth. I’m glad he recovered but I don’t feel sorry for him. He seems like a super privileged dude that doesn’t have to worry about finances whatsoever.
the family has a glass blowing factory, I see your point but I guess he is doing good for others so it all balances out. I have TBI from car accident, also ok financially and can see that others have it a lot tougher if the money is tight.
He earned much many as a professional snowboarder, in the documentary they say he made like 400,000 dollars in just 3 months by participating and winning in competitions, he also got sponsorship from nike, oakley, burton and many other companies. He deserves every penny he got. Professional athletes in freestyle sports put their health and lives in danger and they all should be paid accordingly by sponsors. I was so sad when I was watching his sad story, now I am really happy that he got through and is in better shape and even boarding again. And sorry but your comment sounds quite mean to me, you should also watch the document to get more info about him, then you wouldn't write things such "I don't feel sorry for him. He seems like a super priviledged dude".
I’m sure he would love to have the privilege to hold down a career or have that be an option. If he’s had a TBI he will probably most likely need some level of care for the rest of his life and will have had a level of independence robbed from him. Very much doubt he’s living the life of Riley.
I don't think you have any clue how good Kevin was, he was better than Shaun White, He was cooler than Shaun White, When Nike built him a half pipe he got his buddies to come and use it, Shaun White had people sign NDA's not to talk about it. All his sponsors bar 2 stayed with him, 300million dollar man Jake Burton founder of Burton snowboards was there when he got back on a board, which shows how much he meant to the burton team. Nike kept him n, KP was the best at that time. You sound bitter like you have never really achieved anything on a high level except typing.

Blessed Place. I am so happy to hear that He was as Great as He came across in the Film. Did You have the pleasure of meeting His Family ?

As a Canadian mark mcmorris was going to be the next best snowboarder untill his horrific injures

The documentary about this is amazing. I've watched it multiple times.

Warms my heart seeing him start a family. Happy for him… that documentary was so sad

Crazy... i remember watching his documentary on HBO years ago and now to see him now. Brought tears of joy. Keep on keeping on homie.
Glad he found peace, love and a purpose. He is also snowboarding again so now he has it all. What an amazing family the Pearce’s are♥️

couldnt have said it better, i was 14 maybe 15 when it happened and it broke my heart, i was so proud he was a vermonter showing out for us...

This is the best interviewer the Today Show has?? She's an amateur, she probably knows someone because she has NO personality.
