    You got me straight with the first bad habit. What's interesting is that I have the same bad habit with crochet as well. Time to work on myself, thanks for your support!

      @LearningtheHarp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I also like crocheting, currently making a baby blanket! BTW it’s not necessarily bad to be working on more than one piece at a time, depending on whether you are able to make progress on both or if it means it takes too long to see any progress, and then you get tired of the song.

      @@LearningtheHarp thanks a lot for the encouragement! And have fun with working on the blanket

    Thank You for this lesson so important to review often. Like an oil check in a car.

    If we aren't reading the notes, sometimes we need to consider glasses for music reading! (Me)
    Another is skipping days, which can become weeks or even months ( me looking in mirror)

    Very first thing you said I’m guilty of & trying to learn a more advanced song that isn’t my level. It’s held me back so much. Also, after I have learnt a song, I don’t end up playing it as much because im bored of it, and busy learning other songs. Then I end up forgetting & getting the interest to re learn it is hard!
    I’m working on it, every time I play I make sure to play through all the songs I’ve learnt before I start working on the new songs. It’s helped a lot & it’s made me a lot more confident to play in public.
    I also tell myself it’s ok to learn more simple pieces that are at my level. I know I need to work on my technique so trying to play complex songs isn’t really helping.
    I’m happy that I’m really conscious about whether I’m playing in tune or not, and make sure to tune before playing etc.
    Thank you for sharing! I love these videos :)

      This helps me...I learn a piece that seems to take a lot of practise, then I reward myself by learning a much simpler piece. Simple can be beautiful too! 😅

    Oh how good theses tips are! I am a lazy person, only tuning my harp once a month. :-( Now I know why my music of a piece sounds so different and bad even if I can play it correctly. It is the untuned harp! Now I will tune my harp daily and indeed the music sounds now as it should. Thanks for that bonus tip.😊😊

      Omg Same here 🤣unless it’s out of tune really badly I won’t be able to tune my harp every single day coz I feel I’m running out of practice time

    the letter name one is fascinating to me as a dyslexic coz that actually complicates things in my head! The less "pollution" on sheet music, the better lol I'll even avoid fingering marks when it's easy enough, just for the sake of keeping the sheet music plain and simple. And yes I'm a beginner. I'm aware most people won't relate tho. Anyway, great tips here! Awesome video as always

    This is gold! I've flirted with some of these, but thanks to finding Christy-Lyn's courses and learning a lot, despite quite a few obstacles in the way, I can progress in playing the most beautiful instrument in the world!!

    I am definitely guilty of #3. Patience is definitely not one of my strengths! 😜 Thank you for this. I will try and attend to my technique more deliberately in the future! 🎶💕

    • @LearningtheHarp
      @LearningtheHarp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've done it too at times, so I can definitely relate! We can't be thinking about technique ALL the time, but if we never think about it, we can build some bad habits 😅

    Fabulous information ! THANK YOU I am the SHEET MUSIC ONE! HA!! Oh my heavens I am having SUCH trouble with this! THANK you so much

  • @JA-vv8wy
    @JA-vv8wy 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’m guilty of #3. I also have difficulty seeing exactly what “good technique” looks like. For instance my teacher would constantly show me how my hands were in improper position , but when she’d show me or put my hands in that position, I couldn’t see how it was different from what I was already doing. It’s hard to correct it because I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. Maybe because it’s subtle. 🤷‍♀️

    I once did Bad Habit 4. I had to deal with some sheet music where notes were four or five (I think in one spoy, SIX) ledger lines below the treble staff. It was printed off a website, I think, and it was just SO hard to read, because I was counting ledger lines to see which note it was.

    Got a harpsicle 1.5 months ago. I'm watching your various videos. I think it was the 14 lesson series? So, I cut my left thumb 😿😢 about 2 weeks ago that made me halt practicing. It was a deep cut maybe a bit less than half an inch. Of course, I am going to let it heal. I didn't want to start plucking weirdly destroying any progress of proper technique.
    It's healing slowly as I have bandaids on, give a rest, keeping it clean, etc. What do harp players do when they have a small finger injuries such as cuts? Is there anything I can't put over it or, something to assist in healing besides standard cream? Or like some sort of finger protector? I already tried to play but it's not healed enough. PS, if any of you fine humans know any hacks as well, I'd love to know.
    Please continue on with your awesome videos! I only subscribe to 3 content creators, so thank you for being 1/3!

    New perfect piece: that's the tale of the new girlfriend. The old girlfriend has many flaws and you know them all. The new one: she's new, sweet, and sexy. After dating her for a while, you discover her "quirks". So just different annoyances and maybe more of them. Better to work out the flaws with the current one.

    I mostly learned self taught right away writing my compose and play my own pieces but I could never afford lessons so I know point 2 is wrong I am taking more time this Summer trying to fix (warning taken and likely doomed lol). I do not read my music I am afraid, I play by ear. I have tried a few times but it is just frustrating because My brain go and play by ear and is not reading the lines. Trying my best within the limitations of my mistakes. I am polishing a few things though

    I am mainly guilt of #1 ! I constantly get sdistracted by new pieces :D luckily I also have a teacher who ask me for excercises to be done so I go back on the road each time.

    I feel seen. 😳 I have done -- and currently do -- most of these things. I had one meeting with a harp teacher, which helped, but she relocated soon after. With my schedule and location, I don't have practical access to an instructor. I'm trying to learn your "O Holy Night", but it's slow going, and I wonder if it's too advanced for me -- or if I'm just not working hard enough. I don't know how to tell. Anyway, great video! Thank you for all you do. ❤

    • @LearningtheHarp
      @LearningtheHarp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, good to have you here! 😃 These are very common mistakes so don’t feel bad, it’s just a good thing to realise so you can fix some things if you want to get better results 😊 Since you aren’t making much progress it sounds like O Holy Night is probably too advanced for you right now. It is a difficult piece, and you need to have a solid foundation of technique. I would suggest going back a few levels and trying an easier piece with a Video Course so you make sure you’re learning it well. 😊💕

    I can hear when my harp's out of tune and it irritates me! About every 3 days. / i only write the alphabets for the extremely high and extremely low notes, when you have to count the number of extra lines. and for big fat chords.
