I feel like wrestlers advertise themsleves as the real deal alot more than actors do which rubs people (especially "tough guys") the wrong way. Robert Downey Jr isnt going around saying hes iron man off set whereas wrestlers lives are very interconnected with the sport so its hard for people to know where to draw the line and where WWE themselves draw the line, cause we all know WWE has blurred the line between reality and entertainment before. Like Jeff Hardys addiction being a storyline. Its this real/fake vibe that tbh is off the fking walls crazy at times that people dont understand but thats also why people love it. @@dan4992 I think wrestlers have a right to walk around like they’re the shot bc unlike actors they don’t have stunt doubles that are going out and taking bumps for them every night. WWE superstars specifically are going out wrestling 4 or 5 times a week while actors might have a couple fight scenes a year, completely different.

If I’m not mistaken, “professional wrestling” started long ago as a heightened version of the real thing. If you watch a lot of the old, old matches, it features a lot of legit wrestling moves with a whole lot more theatrics. But you did say something in your second sentence that isn’t all correct. You said “they’re fighting scripted fights with no power use to prove their actual worth”. And yes, although it is scripted, there is lots of strength, speed, durability, etc involved when being a professional wrestler. Athleticism is an integral part of it and most moves require a lot of power to perform them.

There’s a difference between fake and scripted. Fake means they actually aren’t putting their bodies on the line every single show they put on for us. Scripted means they are just playing characters, but they still sacrifice their bodies and personal lives for our entertainment, I swear some people really don’t understand entertainment. Even when I found out that WWE was scripted it didn’t change the love I have for it. If anything it made me respect the people in wrestling more. Not only are you putting your bodies on the line for us but you are also playing a character, creating a story, showcasing talent and bringing feuds to life for us. The people that call WWE “Fake” are the ones that only watch things like UFC.

“They’re acting real” that part is not true anymore. Only 10-15% of the people in the business can cut a promo or do something believable. In wrestling today you have guys jumping off the rope onto the floor and people are just waiting to catch him. It’s because in movies the audience is entirely aware that the show’s a stage but for wrestling most people don’t know it’s all scripted, and there’s no easy way to tell based on the shows alone until someone informs you. It’s not surprising many feel cheated when they find out it’s all scripted since they were expecting an actual authentic competitive fight like in the case of mma.

It’s not the same. In a professional sport, part of the thrill is a surprise win or upset that’s an actual non-scripted event. If basketball, baseball, golf, or any other sport had scripted events and outcomes, nobody would watch them. People watch wrestling because it’s entertainment. A circus or musical would be a better comparison. All involve careful acrobatics, acting, poise and so on.

I love this kind of topic. People saying Movies and Wrestling aren’t alike. Heres the deal. Wrestling is “fake”, Acting is “Fake”, the stunts in the ring are real, the stunts in movies are real, the people behind the characters are real, they are paid well for “acting” out their character on screen. Hell, Actors and Wrestlers even go around the world to perform in front of cameras to the almost exact point. If you are “ACTING” or STAGING a SCENE OF SOME SORT, BE IT LIVE OR NOT, IT’S ENTERTAINMENT, ACTING AND WRESTLING IS ENTERTAINMENT. The only difference is, Actors tell a story that’s produced in hundred of hours, and it’s compressed into a movie that’s about a couple hours long, wrestlers tell a story, ON LIVE TV, FOR WEEKS, MONTHS EVEN.
Funny enough these dudes in pro wrestling are actually getting their ass’s kicked more than these guys in movies. Performing a little under a year going out nightly just fucking each other up only two-three of those days a week is on television while the rest they’re just going out there and doing it to do it

It's not just the story and acting, It's also about the respect. I feel like wrestlers advertise themsleves as the real deal alot more than actors do which rubs people (especially "tough guys") the wrong way. Robert Downey Jr isnt going around saying hes iron man off set whereas wrestlers lives are very interconnected with the sport so its hard for people to know where to draw the line and where WWE themselves draw the line, cause we all know WWE has blurred the line between reality and entertainment before. WWE superstars specifically are going out wrestling 4 or 5 times a week while actors might have a couple fight scenes a year, completely different.

If you watch a lot of the old, old matches, it features a lot of legit wrestling moves with a whole lot more theatrics. But you did say something in your second sentence that isn’t all correct. And yes, although it is scripted, there is lots of strength, speed, durability, etc involved when being a professional wrestler. Athleticism is an integral part of it and most moves require a lot of power to perform them.

There’s a difference between fake and scripted. Fake means they actually aren’t putting their bodies on the line every single show they put on for us. Scripted means they are just playing characters, but they still sacrifice their bodies and personal lives for our entertainment, I swear some people really don’t understand entertainment. Even when I found out that WWE was scripted it didn’t change the love I have for it. If anything it made me respect the people in wrestling more. Not only are you putting your bodies on the line for us but you are also playing a character, creating a story, showcasing talent and bringing feuds to life for us. The people that call WWE “Fake” are the ones that only watch things like UFC.
That’s not what fake means. Fake applies to any work of fiction, regardless of how it’s made. Just because wrestlers do their own stunts, doesn’t make it real.

Heres the deal. Wrestling is “fake”, Acting is “Fake”, the stunts in the ring are real, the stunts in movies are real, the people behind the characters are real, they are paid well for “acting” out their character on screen. Hell, Actors and Wrestlers even go around the world to perform in front of cameras to the almost exact point. If you are “ACTING” or STAGING a SCENE OF SOME SORT, BE IT LIVE OR NOT, IT’S ENTERTAINMENT, ACTING AND WRESTLING IS ENTERTAINMENT.
The only difference is, Actors tell a story that’s produced in hundred of hours, and it’s compressed into a movie that’s about a couple hours long, wrestlers tell a story, ON LIVE TV, FOR WEEKS, MONTHS EVEN.
