It didnt work under MS-DOS. Although, it could... it had it's own engine, maybe some games worked, because some of the 3dfx Glide worked. But it was very rare to use 3d cards under DOS. Almost non-existing. It was used under Windows 95. It arrived in late 1996, so everyone was using Windows 95 already. But nice try for a joke. It required DirectX for Direct3d application and for that, you need Windows 95/98 But... as it had own Matrox 3d engine, it could (not sure) work under DOS, because 3dfx and Glide worked in some very rare expections under DOS. But it's only my speculation, I dont have it confired, maybe it didnt work under DOS in any case. Not sure about ATI CIF.

"Can your PC do this? Yeah, neither can ours, so it's best that you just go ahead and buy that 3dfx Voodoo Graphics thing." xD Also, that segment at the beginning showing games, judging by the texture filtering being present I'd say that's definitely NOT running on the Mystique. :)
I like the poster of that clown holding the video card that they had hanging in various stores to advertise their video card. I've been trying to find where I could get it.
I contacted Matrox directly and asked some years ago. The lady told me they actually got many such requests for the clown poster. But they didn't have any left. What is it about the image of that creepy clown on the box of the video card that makes it so interesting to me. I'm not sure. But it sure is eye catching.
I had all the Matrox cards and Rainbow Runners from the late '90s/early 2000s. The original Rainbow Runner was terrible -- PC-VCR Remote couldn't capture MJPEG video without dropping frames and skipping all over the place. Thankfully Matrox included that MediaStudio software as well and that worked much better. I remember the later Rainbow Runner G-Series (which was a separate PCI card, not a daughter card) also was much more stable.
Do you still have the original mpeg video from the driver disc perhaps? If so, could you upload it or even the entire driver disc someplace? All archived copies of Matrox's cards that I could find online don't contain this video :(.

It was in the 1988 computer animation compilation _State of the Art of Computer Animation_ by _Pacific Arts_ . The compilation divorces the credits and shoves them all at the end of the compilation, so I don't know the specific animation's title or creators. no, it WAS 3d accelerator. main purpouse of 3d accelerator was to accelerate 3d scene, so it can run faster, and thus, higher resolutions and hi-color mode (16-bit color mode aka 65k colors) remains playable. It was also designed to unload CPU, and take part of calculations on itself. So frames can be rendered faster. Matrox fullfilled all of this. It was actually fastest 3d accelerator, until 3dfx voodoo appeared. It completly wrecked S3 Virge and Ati Rage, in 3d computing power.

can anything ever be more 1997 than this
Only Men in Black.
It cannot.

About a 1000x faster too2

bro... advertisement is outdated. You don't need to react for it, like it's actual.
0:30 We see what sort of "In your face video" they had in mind.
I've still got a Mystique with the rainbow runner on it. Probably still works, but disks are long gone.
Didnt know they had 1080p webcams in those days.
And the necessary bandwith to do a live video call at that resolution. lol
BLAZING FAST cinematic 10-20 FPS!
Still better than youtube with Adblock.

Damn that video conference call quality meets todays standards..
It's amazing just how 90s the 90s were.

Meemmmorieeeees.... Still have my Mystique and Rainbow runner daughter card in an old dusty box somewhere.... Good for its day.....
I'm still saving up for one. Been a while.
Damn, wish more commercials were like this. Now I actually wanna buy this card, even though I don't really need it.

I'm not sure either. I'd love to have one too, though.

I'm interested too.
If who ever got any information where to get it, please share it.
I was obsessed with Matrox when I was a teenager and even drew a sketch of the Mystique clown in a notebook I still have somewhere.
The matrox Mystique was my first vidéo card with a Pentium III , 512mb of RAM : My PC work very well , I have this PC today in my garage
Woah whooping 512 megs of ram
@@LlLnig 512MB was actually lot for Pentium III. It's maximum, windows 98 can handle (without modifications)

Matrox Mystique... the clown is you! 😂
clowned... when you find out after expensive purchase, it don't support OpenGL and bilinear filtering while Virge did. So no more good bye for pixels.

I used to drool over that graphic card. Oh man 🙄
You can still drool over it. It's okay.
Ngl that song is a banger
My first video adapter in my first PC in 1997...
have to be cool to not have bilinear filtering while buying 3d accelerator.
Why can't computers be like this anymore?
They can. You need a computer from 1997.

Everything of this card was nice except for the 3D gaming stuff. And you needed a rainbow runner for most of the video stuff.
