Thank you for your review. I also got the exact same tablet for me to upgrade my Chuwi Hi8. Not much of an upgrade at the end... Mipad 2 looks great and according to it's specs it should be much faster, but it's not. It costs three times the price of my Chuwi Hi8 and it has a really hard time to play TH-cam Videos even when it's cool (Chuwi plays them flawlessly and it never gets warm). When the MiPad 2 gets hot (which happens quite easily), it struggles to do anything. Also the display is almost the same quality as the Chuwi Hi8 but due to it's unusual resolution (not windows standard) some apps and games appear very strange and things overlap. This happens with Candy Crash Saga which i play sometimes - it plays great on the Chuwi Hi8 but it looks like crap on the Mipad. Oh, i'm so much disappointed with this tablet... TH-cam works better on the MiPad 2 if you change the resolution to a lower level... they still do some hiccups but it's not that bad...
If I get a tablet like this it would be mostly for TH-cam viewing, Groove Music playing, simple notes, and the most I would proudly do to it is run a game like Minecraft or Battlefront II
How about reviewing it from a student use case scenario? Because while the review was good, most of it was focused on gaming, benchmarks, etc. It would help me and other students in considering this device. Whether it can load heavy PDFs without lagging. Whether Microsoft Word runs properly? Thanks
As a student you should be accustomed to using your brain. If it can play a game that is cpu/gpu intensive, smoothly, you should be able extrapolate that it should have no issues with a fricken PDF file.
cdangers As a commenter you should be accustomed to thinking before typing. Synthetic benchmarks aren't everything and the games that he ran were neither CPU/GPU intensive. It's not all about the clock speed or cores, it's how well the system has been optimized as a whole. I have a Lenovo Tablet with exactly the same processor and it lags heavily while loading the 300-500 mb PDF files that I have. I asked the particular question because I wanted to get the Xiaomi and give the Lenovo to my little brother. Btw since when are Asphalt 8 and Candy Crush graphics intensive games? But please carry on your petty little rant
kaihtheloner Something that is good in gaming or multimedia will be more than sufficient for PDF processing (I know what you mean esp. that scrolling mess) and wordprocessing. However, there are better but costlier options available like Microsoft Surface
Paulo Moniz Well, the Onda V919 Air CH has a decent display, feels extremely thin and light but a slightly slower z8300 cpu. Note that don't expect the best build quality from ONDA. The Teclast X98 plus is the similar, thicker edge, with preferentially better build quality but still the z8300. The Teclast X98 Pro seems good but plastic case with overheat problems, not my choice. That's why the Mi Pad 2 seems so good. It has well-built metal design and no overheat on z8500.
Harry Tsang believe me when I tell that I've been comparing MiPad 2 with vs Onda V919 vs Teclast X98. But since these aren't well known brands I am very concerned... Plus, Onda has no support...
You sold me! Gorgeous is a good word for it. Great review and I think I want this one. Very nice and I think for my uses, this will work for me. My question is, can you connect an adapter to the Type-C and read movies, music and install apps from there?
+MrVeeBlog What type of adapter/device are you referring to? But basically, yes, get a Type-C OTG adapter and you can plug any USB device in, like a flash drive or a DVD drive or whatever.
+PinPlay OTG was what I was asking about. I have to say PinPlay, I'm quite smitten by this tablet. Being able to run my Windows 10 apps on a form factor of that size that looks that good has me hooked. I don't do major gaming short of games like Cities:Skylines. I'm big on word games like Red Herring and Words with Friends so it has more than enough power for me. I just have to find one. Thanks again. BTW, did you say it can use a stylus or am I just hoping it can?
+MrVeeBlog There's no stylus digitizer support (ie Wacom). You can find capacitive pens, but that's not really the level of control that stylus users are looking for.
I've had pretty good success with mine. No crashes. Doesn't get too hot to touch. Battery life and especially standby life is good. Wifi is rock solid and fast (a rarity for Chinese tablets). No construction quality issues. The screen isn't quite as good as an iPad Mini, mostly due to the backlight (color, consistency). I use the smart cover reviewed in another video, and it's holding up fine.
Great review. Are you sure about that USB 3.0? Isn't it just 2.0? About HDMI with USB Type C converter, did you test it already? Aliexpress sells 1 model thay is mentioned as compatible with Mipad 2... But for its price I wont take the risk... My unit didn't yet btw.
+Emanuel Silva I have no way of testing - my Type-C OTG adapter hasn't arrived yet - but the Device Manager only mentions an Intel USB 3.0 controller. Also, no Type-C/HDMI cable to test with either, although I don't personally have a use for that.
would really like to know the answer! some tablets with USB type-C have hdmi 2.0, and even work with my 3440x1440 screen, supposedly... but information so so scarce!
i notice that on every mi pad 2 there is likw a leak or bleed of ligh from the ips screen. As yours is on your top side. Is it normal for a device to have that kind of light bleed? is it will affect the screen in a long use?
Most IPS screens have some sort of light bleed, somewhere. On this, it's pretty even across the side of screen. On my HP laptop, the brightness wavers a bit, like on my Sony TV. Personally, my feeling is they went with an inferior backlighting solution compared to, say, a Microsoft or Apple product, and this in itself creates some of the visible unevenness. You don't really notice it after a while, and overall it's still pretty good for the price of the device and when compared with other Chinese tablets.
Hi...i am planning to buy this tablet (windows version) and i am searching a proof or video that it can power or run external HDD but no luck...is this capable to run external HDD via otg?
Which you recomend me? Xiaomi mediapad Windows 10, or Surface 3 refurbished. Those device have intel Atom. Is bigger screen against more portable device.
+Biswajit jana I don't think that feature exists on the Windows version. Probably only Android/MIUI. Certainly, it doesn't work as-is, and there's no Xiaomi utilities to enable anything. I've also been in the BIOS, and nothing there either.
Hi! When you received it, does it come with a user account set up already? Seems like someone have already turned on the tablet if there was a user account set up.
+Lau Zhe Hao Yes, it did come with one set to English (which I deleted). I'm quite certain the company I buy from does this as a convenience for their non-Chinese speaking customers (this is not the first time), although in this case it wasn't necessary since this is clearly an export unit and doesn't even have Chinese as an option!
how can i connect it to my laptop ? just bluetooth or with the usb 3.0 too ?....and how in both....i wanna send files form my laptop to mipad 2 windows
+Sharath S They're completely different. The Teclast X98 Air is a 9.7" based on the Z3736F, and the Mipad 2 is 7.9" based on the newer Z8500. The Teclast has a bigger screen and probably better battery life on its side, but beyond that, I think the Mipad 2 will beat it in performance and quality. A fairer comparison would be with the Teclast X98 Pro, which is 9.7", Z8500 and 4GB memory. Either way, the issue of screen size should tell you which one is right for you!
I bought it, powered up everything and after the installation askes for windows activation, in the box i didnt find any code. Do we know if they give a Windows Serial number with the product or not? thank you
+yash gehloth Sorry, don't play that so can't say for sure either way. "Can" you run it, I don't see any reason why not (the store doesn't list any usual spec requirements). Will it be playable, at 2048x1536 maybe not... but you can always drop the resolution down.
+Eddie Frolic I'm probably just as surprised by this as you, but so far I haven't had any issues with the tablet getting too hot. Seems the metal case does a pretty good job of dissipating heat without getting uncomfortable. I probably need to do some more stress testing, though, as that's just with normal usage. I have 2 cases on order for it, so we'll see if they change anything.
+Jake Paguinto It seems to have no problem doing "standard" touchscreen-style games at full resolution. But intensive ones like Asphalt 8, for example, do seem to overtax it at 2048x1536 if you play for more than a few minutes, even with the quality turned down to "Medium" from "Extreme". To alleviate that, I created two start page icons that drop the resolution to 1536x1152 in one click (and another to put it back) and that really seems to help. The GPU capabilities are something like twice as good as the previous generation Intel Atom, but it's still not up to the performance level of, say, an iPad.
+cancerbero40 What are you seeing? I'm not doing anything special. It's in connected standby mode and, for example, my tablet hasn't been plugged in for over 3 days (technically 76 hours), and is currently showing 66% battery life remaining (granted, I haven't used it much over those 3 days). That's not nearly what an iPad would get, but for a Windows 10 tablet it's pretty good..
+Jyotiranjan Saha It comes for free with the "Office Mobile" apps, which are touch-enabled and simplified versions of the desktop apps. However, you can pay for the full desktop versions (ie. Office 365) if you prefer.
I got a one today morning , now I'm confused about the way to transfer files from computer or hard disk , I tried bluetooth but it's slow as a slug , What is the fastest way to tranfer files, i need to transfer 2000 ebooks , cause i bought it to readThank u
+Firas Elheib Wifi using normal network shares seems like the easiest way. Otherwise you'll have to get a USB Type-C OTG adapter if you want to hook up an external drive/memory stick.
It can do what any x64 Windows computer can do. But remember it's a low-end CPU with limited storage, so it's not going to be ideal for any CPU-intensive tasks..
+Jeremy Faber The 2gb is usable for light-duty work (certainly better than 1gb) but, yes, it really should've been 4gb. The CPU actually supports up to 8gb (unlike the Z8300, which does max out at 2gb), so there's no limit there. SD - yes, lack of expansion is one area they shouldn't copy Apple. As for the Core M... there probably would be excessive heat management issues in a little 8" tablet like this. I doubt the Atom Z8700 would even fly.
+PinPlay if they would change the 2gb ram for 4gb and make the memory expandeble i would buy it allready. the core m would only make it better for people that use it for editing, so would make this tablet more interesting for almost every one.
+Hami D I'm not sure it is. Is the 64gb Android version actually in stock where you're looking? Plus, at the store I reference in the video / description, there's a coupon that brings the price down to below the out-of-stock Android version. Beyond that, I have NO idea about trying to install Windows on the Android version. You're probably going to need a different BIOS and some source for all the drivers, and I don't think Xiaomi has any of that public at this time.
Build quality is second to none; I have the Android version but their software optimization needs a lot of work. A lot of work. I'm in the process of trying to load another ROM onto it but it's my first time and is quite daunting.
+Kirat Alreja Sure. But remember that this doesn't have the power of a laptop, and you may find touch control of Photoshop's user interface awkward at best (would recommend a mouse, or at least a capacitive stylus).
+Kirat Alreja Something I just thought of - this only has 2GB of RAM (which *is* the minimum allowed by CC 2015 / 2014 - prior versions only want 1GB), so certain memory-hungry plugins may not be that happy. I do wish they'd spec'd 4GB ram with this, like Dell and HP did.
+KoepenickDrums Wasn't meant to be a joke until I was in post hearing me slur the words together... but then rushing to get this out, misspelt her name. Yay!
Actually, I did. I'm sure you're probably in the show-MEE group, like in th-cam.com/video/XrAW3pMzLdc/w-d-xo.html But then here's the president of the company: th-cam.com/video/vLgHIRN9fb4/w-d-xo.html&t=4m15s and the CEO: th-cam.com/video/5cU7mVH9Q1E/w-d-xo.html&t=9s or how about this Xiaomi person: th-cam.com/video/kC-YTeqc9ag/w-d-xo.html Perhaps I put too much of a "z" sound in... but I guess I'll leave it to you to decide for me the one, true pronunciation!
+PinPlay "I'm sure you're probably in the show-MEE group", well I don't know where you got that idea from, or why you think those videos of people saying Xiaomi correctly vindicates the way you were saying it.
So, you're basically complaining that I said something closer to "zao-mee" instead of "shao-mee", but do agree that "show-mee" is also wrong. Hey, I did my best considering I'd never heard of the brand nor heard it said when I bought the tablet. My main reference was the last video I mention, which has a bit more of a "z-ish" harsh sound than "shao" would represent, and while that might be a common phonetic sound in Chinese, it's not in English. And never mind that English "X" words are most commonly said with a "Z" sound.
Why is so important how it spells? It spells different from language to language. Let's say in english is "shao-mee" , ok. But in my lang is "xiao-mee"/'Ksiao-mee" ...
The "x" in Chinese pinyin is somewhere between English "sh" and "s", if you pronounce it as "shaomi" it's close but still technically wrong, so you might as well just use "ziaomi"
You should never install android on a device using Intel architecture and expect a great experience. I have a feeling those poorly performing games will have been effected quite a bit by that. Android was built for the ARM architecture and Windows was built for Intel.
Hi, if it's about how to convert Android tablet xiaomi mi pad 2 tablet Windows 10 app let maybe more mature, okay, but would love to learn all the internet, I though that I did not thank you a program in this field, let me Thanks a lot
+shenbaga pandiyan Probably less of a "z" sound than I have, but this seems a good guide: th-cam.com/video/kC-YTeqc9ag/w-d-xo.html - the first syllable is not really a native sound for English speakers.
he boots up the device at 11:32
thank me later
is it later now. coz thank you.

Nicely done . A bit lengthy actually but well made unboxing mate
wow your box amazing its like from blackmarket or something
Lol the subtitles: Boat crash even allowed in the last game - candy crush even louder than in the last game

How's the gaming performance for a game like... Battlefront II? Or even Minecraft?
I seriously consider this tablet! it seems like a good bang for bucks~

Mine has OTG fully working, but I can't spend $40 on a HDMI adapter that I don't have sure that will work :(
Sir, is there any problem about reading Ebooks on MiPad 2 ?AndIs that quite okay to use the Browser on MiPad 2?.Thx
Very good review..

I see, thanks for the best explanation. I will subscribe and +1
Would you recommend it if i were to use it for microsoft office and replying emails? Does it run smoothly?

Hi! Can you try Hearthstone @ native resolution and get its fps? Thank you
why not install gesture studio for gesture support

How to enable Shield function ? (To prevent accidental presses of home, menu, back buttons during gameplay in landscape mode) In Mi pad 2..

Microsoft Pre-installed Candy Crush. Guess they want to show they have common apps. (Might not happen on the Pro versions just Home?)
Can you tale us .exe file working in this tablet, MS visual studio, MS office etc are working or not?
There is a method to disable brightness of the three buttons in the bottom?
Doesn't seem to be, no.
Do you have any idea what for keyboard the best is for the xiaomi mipad 2 windows because I am going to buy this xiaomi mipad 2 windows
You may try checking out Zagg Auto-Fit 8".
it's really gorgeous. what is the price?
hey, i have the android version. is there a posibility to make it a windows 10 version?
3:02 :D is this one of those Fire Proof packages? I mean this isn't an note 7 XD
No, just flammable foam and yellow tape. :-)
can we dual boot it.I mean both android and windows?or any other way to play android games on it
plz reply.
Shubham Gautam use bluestack / it emulates android so u can play android games
how can i connect it to my laptop ? just bluetooth or with the usb 3.0 too ?....and how in both....i wanna send files form my laptop to mipad 2 windows
I would suggest configuring drive shares and/or a homegroup on your local network to transfer over WiFi. That's going to be the fastest method.
How to download the gaming asphalt 8? Which store
Does it have a double tap to wake feature?
Pretty sure the answer to that is no. I can only wake mine via power button and smart cover.
How's the RAM holding up?
"I do like their yellow tape... I really like it."

how long does it last on standby?

+yash gehloth Sorry, don't play that so can't say for sure either way. "Can" you run it, I don't see any reason why not (the store doesn't list any usual spec requirements). Will it be playable, at 2048x1536 maybe not... but you can always drop the resolution down.

hi I have question. whether the mi pad 2 could instal aplication .exe ?
please answer.
+fadli Not sure why this keeps coming up! It's a full 64-bit Windows 10 computer. So, yes.
Best to run linux on such devices. If you have 4g in that, you can use ubuntu touch.
Could i install .exe Programms like bluestacks
+CookieGames HD Not sure why folks keep asking this - it's a full Windows 10 computer. So, yes.
memu is better than bluestacks for tablets.
works with skype??? i buyed a tablet but don´t works skype very well
So what would you recommend to a person who needs a value for money windows tablet 10" size ?
teclast x98 pro

No, sorry, Windows Hello isn't available.
Is this form of Windows 10 Tablet/Mobile version? Can it be like normal PC?
This is Windows 10 Home 64-bit like a normal laptop runs.
I wish I could have this one.
ohhh seen the video again, and I've had this phone for one year now. haha
please, tell me how can you hold the tablet in standby without battery drain... this is horrible battery consumption in standby . thanks
+cancerbero40 What are you seeing? I'm not doing anything special. can it runs 64bit all exe file like laptop
its a windows 64 bits so sure it can
Can this run photoshop or edit videos?..
It can do what any x64 Windows computer can do. But remember it's a low-end CPU with limited storage, so it's not going to be ideal for any CPU-intensive tasks..
PinPlay im better off to buy a laptop then...
Jed Teng If you have demanding needs, then for sure! Or, at least a bigger tablet (like 10-12").
I would like to own one but not with 2gb ram.And i would rather have intel core m and sd expandeble memory. The model looks awesome!
+PinPlay if they would change the 2gb ram for 4gb and make the memory expandeble i would buy it allready.
the core m would only make it better for people that use it for editing, so would make this tablet more interesting for almost every one.
does it have retina scanner?
+Pritam Naskar Nope.
candy crush soda saga is installed by windows directly without the using knowing it
我明白华语因为我来自马来西亚。i said that i understand chinese because i am from Malaysia
this is windows phone or windows like laptop & pc ?
this is full windows 10
microsoft has united all its platform so that phones, tablets, and pc/laptop run the same Windows 10.
+Yohanes Pradono yes with the "modern" apps, but x86 tablets can run desktop exe programs.
how to buy in india ?
Why Windows 10 version is more expensive than Android version? Or we can buy Android and go for installing Windows 10 somehow?
+Hami D I'm not sure it is. Is the 64gb Android version actually in stock where you're looking? Plus, at the store I reference in the video / description, there's a coupon that brings the price down to below the out-of-stock Android version. Beyond that, I have NO idea about trying to install Windows on the Android version. You're probably going to need a different BIOS and some source for all the drivers, and I don't think Xiaomi has any of that public at this time.
I am looking on aliexpress. So far it is best price.
Then I guess you'll have to ask the vendor. Don't forget the Android model comes in a 16GB version which is definitely cheaper than the 64GB.
+Hami D Yes, you can quite easily flash Windows or Android to either version of this tablet.
that screen light bleed tho :/ seems to be on every mi pad.
can i connect this to projector?
There is no HDMI port so not by that method. You can make a wireless connection only.
27 minutes for what should have been a 5 minute review.
adobe premiere pro?
I guess it could technically work... Not that you'd want to deal with it on a tablet processor...
Does it support stylus or not
No, it doesn't.
How much
Build quality is second to none; I have the Android version but their software optimization needs a lot of work. A lot of work.
I'm in the process of trying to load another ROM onto it but it's my first time and is quite daunting.
run this video at 2x speed, it will save you time...
You're welcome
I have been charged 4200 rupees from customs for this product
Can run photoshop ?
+Kirat Alreja Sure. But remember that this doesn't have the power of a laptop, and you may find touch control of Photoshop's user interface awkward at best (would recommend a mouse, or at least a capacitive stylus).
+PinPlay I will use OTG for mouse and keyboard
+Kirat Alreja Something I just thought of - this only has 2GB of RAM (which *is* the minimum allowed by CC 2015 / 2014 - prior versions only want 1GB), so certain memory-hungry plugins may not be that happy. I do wish they'd spec'd 4GB ram with this, like Dell and HP did.
How about photoshop?
lets try to install hackintosh and use it on apple store. see how they react. xD
Is it impossible?
it has bluetooth?
+Sorin Tudor Yes it does!
But I heard there is some problems in connecting the Bluetooth of another ...
exe file support or not pls ans me
+Janga Bobby Windows 10 provides full support of traditional Windows programmes.
Can we install exe files?
+Alex Gozum III It's a full Windows x86 (actually, x64) computer. So it'll run what a laptop/desktop runs, within reason.
Buying it in 2021
How is it?
such a shame it doesn't have 4gb of ram. (chipset supports up to 8gb) my phone has 3gb FFS!
who's ADELL?
raqxd dantes you can find her when you dive to deep on the beach, she's rolling in there
why u said windows 10? its not the desktop version, i would think you would notice it
It's a standard desktop 64-bit version of Windows 10.
Leon P It is you dumb fuck
In this tablet lock of windows
Failed that Adele joke though, lol
+KoepenickDrums Wasn't meant to be a joke until I was in post hearing me slur the words together... but then rushing to get this out, misspelt her name. Yay!
Is it really so hard to look up how Xiaomi is pronounced?
Android was built for the ARM architecture and Windows was built for Intel.
it look s gooood
Hi, if it's about how to convert Android tablet xiaomi mi pad 2 tablet Windows 10 app let maybe more mature, okay, but would love to learn all the internet, I though that I did not thank you a program in this field, let me Thanks a lot
it should be pronounced as sha-o-mi not xy-o-mi
+shenbaga pandiyan Probably less of a "z" sound than I have, but this seems a good guide: th-cam.com/video/kC-YTeqc9ag/w-d-xo.html - the first syllable is not really a native sound for English speakers.
"USB 3.0 Type-C" its usb 2.0
+Kramer M. Not that I've been able to test yet (where's my OTG adapter??), but the device manage shows only a USB 3.0 host controller.
+PinPlay would be nice a vídeo about this and some more tests in depth about the tablet
+Kramer M. Let me know if there's anything in specific you'd like to know or see tested!
