is this dark souls 2?
Try the planes. They float down
The reason IGN stopped making the jokes isn't "being bullied" that completely misses what happened to the games journalism as a whole at the time. Games journalism as a whole come 2016 was dying, in large part because completely disconnected from many of the writers the corporate interest had been exchanging good reviews for early access and money for a long time and gamers had caught on. The change happens around 2013 with GamerGate, what was about the ethical issue by 2014 had become entirely cultural in nature (much to the distaste of those on the GG side who wanted to focus on ethics). So many games journalism businesses started to change culturally to take their side in this conflict, this means any funny "awooga awooga sexy character" jokes were effectively excised on ground of "being sexist". We even saw articles proclaiming that "Gamers don't have to be your audience" which flies in the direct face of the gaming industry because who else plays games if not gamers?
The lack of jokes isn't because they were afraid of being bullied, it's because the culture in the industry had shifted and there was (still is) a fear of making a joke which can be perceived as being some kind of "-ist". The reason you don't see the soul of newer stuff is because it has been sucked out, anything someone can say which might be funny could just as easily find them blacklisted from the industry entirely so why ever risk making a joke?
Noo
as someone who has finished ds3 40 times this guide sure is a guide. also fuck the dancer.
I'll be fully honest, if Lenny pivoted to start making videos based on IGN guides for other games (like the Pokémon guide) I'd be pretty darn excited
There are only so many fromsoft games but an endless amount of shitty guides. He could be the anti-ymfah
I’d actually be Down for this lol
Sing me up for that!
Fortnite Battle Pass Day One IGN Guide
I'm so for this idea
It's so sweet of Lennys mum to act all oblivious when she's there, but afterwards, she goes home, boots up her IGN cheeseburger mage and carry her son through the game, top shelf parenting right there.
Farming 20,000 souls SOLELY for the sake of *farming back 20,000 souls* is maybe the single most IGN thing ever
props to IGN for knowing having souls do help
Except it's not to just farm back 20k souls. It's so that literally every future enemy drops more souls. By far the most efficient way to play the game.
@@mattandrews2594 which you can also get for free if they knew about the tree jump 😆
I think you guys failed to understand the Silver Covetus ring. When they say you get your 20K souls back quickly because of it, they don't mean you only get that many back. You get the 20K back and then continue to get 20% extra souls every time they drop. By the end of the game, you will have gotten millions of extra souls for that 20K investment early in the game.
@@Jeremy-ql1or still, it’s not worth spending nearly 5 HOURS from early enemies for it.
Respect to the guy who abandoned Lenny like the guide told him to.
That was so funny
Hey, when Lenny said “To the letter,” that goes for chat too
"Man learns Through the Fire and Flames on expert just to get through a Dark Souls 3 run," is not something I was ever expecting to see in my life
The intro made it seem like he just jumped on Guitar Hero as a bit.
Nah, man actually did it. Insane 😂
I had to look up the full song just to see how impressive this was... 8 minutes of button spam is insane. I totally thought he wasn't going to be able to do it
@@Syphael its more impressive than it appears, the only way somebody could do that is if they're very familiar with the song on expert
@@ThePod90either he was already good at it or man is super cracked. I've played clone hero specifically for years now and I'm not half bad at it, but I can't consistently hit some of the patterns he did.
Like, actual, serious respect if he just learned that from scratch.
IGN Cheezburger returning home as soon as he saw the Sulyvahns beasts was actually fantastic. Wouldve been so easy to make the most of his moment getting to co op with Lenny and fight as much as possible, but he committed to the moment
exactly, the roleplay was on point
Timestamp?
Honestly made the video for me, IGN Cheeseburger carried this guide
That Dancer strat completely blew me out of the water. I played this game from day one and I have never seen that before. Crazy how the IGN guys found it
Fucking with the fog door to either resupply items or hit enemies without retaliation has been a staple of twat strats since original Demon's Souls
@@thomasprice7893yeah but to get it to work with such a simple trick, so soon after release is impressive
@@thomasprice7893nah i think he's talking about the boss ai glitch, tbh i played this game for like 5 years and i never knew that you can do that tbh
@@Bsmv712 I mean it makes sense, but I rarely use consumables enough in Dark Souls for me to resupply anything.
It took them 68 hours for a reason lol
As a guides writer myself, not from IGN, but I miss the days when Google SEO didn't dictate what we write. This series has been a hoot to see what the old days were like.
What is the Google SEO?
@@silentkhaos1176 search engine optimization. do the things the way the algorithms want you to or don't make rent.
@@silentkhaos1176search engine optimisation. basically trying to optimise clicks and popularity.
@@silentkhaos1176 "Search Engine Optimization", also called "The Algorithm" by a lot of people, basically the internet's "meta" at the moment. Writing not necessarily in ways that satisfy your creativity but instead in ways that are more likely to pop up in someone's search bar or recommended or whatever they're using to find things online.
@@silentkhaos1176 Search engine optimization, ie. using specific keywords/phrases, backlinking, and other best practices to appear organically in google searches, presumably with the intent of increasing organic traffic and, therefore, ad revenue. In other words, the point of writing the guide is no longer to be helpful, funny, and wholesome. It's to get clicks and eyeballs.
So, the DS3 guide involves a lot of the same stuff from DS1, but everything hits a bit weaker, you can see the light of the golden age fading in real time, and you just know it's not any one person's fault? Damn, that's powerful.
You could say… the fire fades?
That one cuphead game journalist contributed a lot to the changes of video game guide
it's almost like they were written by the same youtuber that claims them to be ign guides, crazy right?
I can't help but absolutely love this guide in particular, it is such a beautiful time capsule to what gaming and the culture around it was like in 2016, just before the edgy bubble burst and we were experiencing the last dying breath of "lol XD Randum = Funny"
Very true! The edgy bubble burst is a very good way of putting it.
I don't think Game culture was like this at all in 2016 outside of socially inept teens, back when DS1 released sure may have been but I just think the guide writer didn't get the memo, if it wasn't intentinally like this.
That lines up well with dark souls 3 though. That which once reigned is now degraded and locked away to be forgotten
As far as I'm concerned "lol xD random" is still funny, and will always be funny, because the world is trying to forget it, but cringe never dies, and until I do, I will continue to use that fact to get my own personal kicks.
In my opinion, cringe is the most wonderful humor in the world. For socially inept autistic f*ckers like myself, who ABSOLUTELY HATE the dynamic and never-lasting nature of what people in the world consider "funny" my ability to throw stupid sh!t people totally thought was funny 8 years ago in their faces and watch then die inside is literally one of the greatest pleasures in my life.
Not the first, nor the last. Reunite brothers and sisters,as we bow down to the one and true king of comedy: Dank memes!
“Did I beat the IGN challenge of 68 hours? Yeah I did it in 9.” XD I loved that line.
Ladies and gentlemen
It was a ride full of it floats down , gamer ranks and cat memes, but everything comes to an end
The dark souls IGN guide was a true masterpiece that shows how textbook guides can still have some soul in them
He’ll do the guides for the DLC’s as well
You could say; this whole series "Floated Down".
I did, and had everyone at the office LOLing.
Perhaps some.. Dark soul in them : ^)
bros forgetting about the dlc bananza
A Dark Soul that is...
The commitment to the Guitar Hero bit was absolutely bonkers. That was legit insane. Well done lad
31:30 If i had to guess, its BECAUSE of the Pestilent Mist that they didnt realize the Red Glow, to them they just saw hordes of Priests dying and every now and again the hp would go down
Mission failed successfully
Can we just talk about the insane 720 no scope killing shot by Lenny at 16:16
Like, that's pure skill right there
I love the video but I just want to point out how good of an entertainer Lenny is. It's really impressive how he can stay so energetic and it's really infectious.
That's really nice of you to say :---)
@@ZeroLenny I'm glad you saw it! I know positive comments can sometimes be a bit overshadowed by negative ones so I'm glad to big you up a bit.
He got it from his mom

What’s kinda funny is “The true dark souls starts here” IS in fact an in game message you can place and it WAS everywhere at the games launch.
they made a dark souls 3??? that's UNBELIEVABLE i gotta try this out for myself!!!!! looks absolutely bonkers

25:50 love how the ad switched from "ARE GAMERS OKAY?" to "NO FUSS CREMATIONS" as soon as lenny lost.
Oh my god
Pestilent Mist is one of the recommended strategies for Dark Eater Midir. He's actually the ideal target for it, because he's huge so he's more likely to stay in the cloud and he has a massive health bar. It's how I beat him the first time.
Same, most butt clenching time of my life tbh
@@red_menace1829 pretty sure it's also the best damage/cost ratio (cost being both level requirements and focus cost as well as total casting time) in the game when fighting high health bosses. Because afaik it doesn't scale with your int. Just enemy HP. So you can just get the minimum stat requirements and put everything else in your survivability stats and focus bar. My only issue with it is that most people who can make effective use out of it are good enough at the game to use other strats. Especially since it's primarily good for either hords of small weak enemies or big chunky bosses. Single enemies that move are hard counters and it's probably almost worthless in PvP.
RT moment
@@LycorisLilyP ?
@@RyugaruSenbi RTgame did a whole playthrough using only the mist, and ended up destroying Midir
Your dedication to follow the guides 100% amazes me.
Great video series, can't wait for the DLC Bonanza :D
The running full sprint to the store gag gets me everytime
Every single cat edit in these videos adds one year to my lifespan
Big man is gonna live till 3005 💀
ZeroLenny, floating down with another absolute BANGER of a video
There’s something incredibly funny to me about IGN making a series of guides that offer you absolutely no transferable skills to any subsequent playthroughs you might want to try out later. Like yeah, you’ll see the end credits, but if you want to try any other build after this, you’ll have to learn it all again from scratch.
Games journalists will do anything other than get good
You literally can't imagine the amount of happinness I get when I see a new ZeroLenny video AND it's IGN guide. It really makes my day. Thank you.
The true Dark Souls were the friends we made along the way.
I guess it was always started, we just never realized it
You can only appreciate IGN guides when you know the monetization scheme behind them. It is like a moment of enlightenment of why they are so surreal and it makes total sense.
I'm curious now, what exactly is the deal
What do you mean?
Please explain
Elaborate further please, dont leave us 22 hanging!
Monetization:
flat rate based on views
mulplier based on word count
Scheme:
guide is designed to be convoluted and give the player a very slow progress.
this guarantees an increased engagement with the guide and the possibility of double or triple dipping on the same viewer per section of the guide.
The true dark souls starts here
I kinda love how chaotic this guide is, but also that it does have some legit ideas for early, easy soul boosts and the like.
You going off and practicing TTFATF and coming back next day and NAILING IT was the coolest thing I've ever seen on a stream. GG!
The music degree really paying off
That story about fromsoft PR rizz attempt killed me lmao. Great video, the IGN guide videos are always 10/10.
I remember people going nuts over Pestilent Mist because it would destroy Midir. I tried it for fun only to see Midir simply jump away from it lol.
Was still cool to beat the Ancient Wyvern with it though
I shit you not , I re specd my character for just pestilent mist cheese for midir and its how I genuinely beat him
Yeah I remember making a caster build and seeing people say pestilent mist is a cheese. Usually I would cast it once and he would stay within it to deal around 500 damage. Which is a lot, but it was the same amount as I would do with one cast of whatever lightning miracle I was using. If I was lucky, the mist would deal 1000 damage, but that's still just two casts. It really does not work well with midir.
Lenny's energy is what makes him such a pleasure to watch, outside his humor
when the first 3 seconds of the video starts with a "Warning to all gamers!" from an IGN guide... That's how you know it's gonna be good
Haven't even watched it yet, but I know this is going to be an absolute banger, as per usual. Thank you for everything Lenny! Going to watch this with my little brother (another huge fan) once he gets out of school. Keep up the good work!
Your mom had me howling! I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. She needs to be a staple in videos like these. Fuckin' loving it mate.
honestly having the bow in guides like these make sense, as its easy to deal with enemies and vastly lowers mortality taking them out from a range, also bow generally easier to aim/more range than a lot of spells
But bows suck
@@ficolas2 buddy just walked down two major bosses with the bow, i think theyre fine
@@LabilSex I beat dark souls 1 with the sword hilt. Sword hilt is a fine build by that logic.
@@ficolas2 if you use it right, then yes, just like the bow silly
It's absolutely the range. I doubt the guide writers are thinking it through analytically as opposed to trying a stupid number of things to figure out what works, but a running theme with bows in the Souls series in general (not just IGN guides) is that they are responsible for more boss exploits than any other weapon, many of which are things the average player never encounters, thinks about or even learns about. Case in point the Dancer exploit right at the start of this guide- I'm not sure spells would have the range to pull that off, iirc they move you forward slightly which would aggro the boss, and given the arrow stacks outside the wall, they may not even be able to achieve the same total damage pool. I think every game in the series has at least one boss you can kill from outside of its boss room with a bow, too.
I really respect that the writers of these guides will do damn near anything to win but learn how to play.
I’ve been waiting for this day. Lenny finally floats down to bless us with another IGN video.
WHEN THE LENNY
THE
THE LENNY FLOATS DOWN!!
That got the whole office rolling
Lenny videos just make me so happy. The high energy, the funnies, the cat memes, all of it is so charming
Hey Lenny, when the dlc bananza happens, it might be fun to do them in reverse order since the guides (in my opinion) would become more and more unique
Fromsoft meets Lenny: "This guy definitely floats down."
Much love, Lenny! Love the videos so much
I’ve rewatched your videos at least 4 times each and it’s because you have an infectous sense of humor out of what the IGN guides do, your random bits with you mother and guitar hero, etc. and everything else has made me enjoy your work too much. When it all floats down you’re one of a kind content creator!

Lets start a petition to get lennys mom to narrate the intro to from's next gane. Her final take was surprisingly good
The PR story reminds me of that time I told the bride at a wedding thanks for coming.
I think the “The true dark souls starts here” being something every player says at the start of an area is actually in reference to demon souls😂
i am astonished at how NOBODY(?) in the comments noticed something off when the guide said "pestilent mist"... lenny said this was supposedly "day 1", but that couldn't be the case because in earlier patches, pestilent mist was called pestilent mercury, so i thought... "ok, then maybe this is just parody video? i meant it would make sense ign is bad but it's not THAT bad..."
until i digged in a little more and found out it's actually a VG247 GUIDE FROM 2017
LMFAO
The cheese in this is some stuff I didn't even know with couple of thousand hours in the game, such as the Dancer cheese and the infinite backpaddling. Not bad.
Yooooooo finallyyyyyy! You have no idea how much I've been looking forward to this! The grand finale of the IGN Guide series!
This video was incredible. The guide even referenced the offski AND the floating down. It all comes together.

"The true Dark Souls starts here" was a meme from the og game that players would tag everywhere with the orange soap stone. Like "try fingers but, hole" or "fort night" in Elden Ring.
I bursted one of my lungs with laughter when they said first boss was the dancer hahahahaha 😂
"One must imagine the bonky happy."
I caught that in the chat. Quite possibly my favorite moment in the video. Whoever wrote that, you are fucking hilarious.

The true Dark Souls starts here fellas!! Mad man actually spent time on guitar hero too now thats dedication to the cause haha
WE EATING GOOD TONIGHT
IGN just does not care about having fun in games. They just cheese everything to death, it's just about beating a game for them, not the fun you have along the way. We have a saying in Germany: "Der Weg ist das Ziel" = "The road/way is the destination". It means that the actual destination doesn't really matter but what matters, is how you get there, the true fun, the true goal lies along the way, not at the end of it, so we should enjoy the way leading to our destination. I think IGN would benefit from having that explained to them
I LOVE how "it floats down" has permanently altered our perception of the world
I'm stumped by the amount of sound effects used in the span of 10 seconds and I cannot focus even a second on it without hearing "OH BABY A TRIPLE!!!". It seems like I've accidentally stumbled upon youtube kids content instead of a funny dark souls challenge video. maybe you'd be better off going in that direction.
Start of every Dark Souls IGN guide:
Step 1 - Welcome noob
Step 2 - Equip a bow
