As an old Cis women sewest - I am amazed at the job you did with this. It is exhaustingly difficult to sew with all those colors/directions but you did a great job! Love the makeup and the filming styles (backwards etc). You are amazing.

Elder queer and new-ish sewist here, and I absolutely adore this video! The dresses are fantastic and they look great on you. I'm so very happy to see queer representation on costube!

"This video is already hella long" no it isn't!! 24 minutes is very much on the shorter end of stuff I watch while hand sewing!
I think this is a fabulous concept and I especially love the colours on the outer gown!
*Proudly waves my pincushion which has tiny trans and ace flags on it*
Someday I'd like to try weaving two narrow pride flag ribbons and use them for watch fobs, because in the 1780's it was fashionable to wear two watches and it'd be so cool to have a pair of trans and ace coloured ones!

Love that you mention Annika Victoria. Her videos got me interested in sewing they are so fun and have great variety in the type of projects she makes. Shes come out as pan via instagram and is always welcoming to the queer community and gender non conforming folks. I love her.

I never thought of using pride flags as heraldry! Genius! I have in my extensive to-make pile a demisexual flag corset with rainbow fan lacing, to be made some time in the future

I am so happy that I found your channel this past year. I have enjoyed your videos as a CIS woman, (she/her, obviously) and my oldest child at the age of 11, just came out as non-binary. I'm having a hard time, to be honest, to re-arrange my brain and my verbage to be as supportive as possible. It helps me so much to enjoy your videos from before all of this happened, and now enjoying your videos from my current stand-point. I love your content. I love the way you verbalize the way that you feel. It helps. Thank you.

How much fun is this ensemble? I love it and admire your tenacity for finding a creative way to include us all. May the queer karma gods bestow many gifts with their many arms. ( I don't know where that came from so will exit now. )

your announcement shocked me. Maybe I live in a fantasy, but, I can't possibly imagine why somebody would be borderline hostile to transgenger people when the matter is simply sewing and wearing costumes .... ???? Like ... WHY??? Aren't we allowed to wear whatever we want?

As much as I love a lot of the historical costumers I watch, I like watching you because as another queer person, your experiences when you speak about them resonate with me. So thanks :)

As you were talking about people feeling a need to have multiple flags to explain themselves I said 5 mere seconds before you did - looking at both the number I identify with and the number (of completely different ones) that my wife identifies with. It makes for a very colorful house as we have them (most of them some we havent found) hanging as banners over doors and on walls.
Edit: also I love your dresses! And now I have to make myself one, but I might do 4 quadrants and just one layer because I dont do well moving in so many layers.

  • @nikkicafeina

How lovely! I feel like something about this cut of dress works particularly well with your hair, somehow? Maybe it's the movement of the skirts and the hair is accented by the structured bodice? I don't know, I just think your hair looks amazing here!

I tend to use a little heart with the Bi colors in the center of the standard Asexual flag to describe my, uh, way of being? But even though my gender is a little wobbly, I won't be caught dead in the nonbinary colors on the sheer fact that I hate yellow, and I hate it more when it's close to purple.... So seeing you just throw out a flag because of the colors is nice. I like that. Great Job on this, the inner-outer kirtle thing for four flags is a niffty idea.

    • @sarahr8311
      @sarahr8311 ปีที่แล้ว

Not gonna lie, part of the reason I prefer identifying as pansexual over bisexual is that I like the pan flag colors better.

With all your advice, I think I know now how to signal non-binary in a costuming wardrobe... I just wish I knew this for modern clothing. Or should I just history-bound non-binary all the time?

Lovely! But what an amount of work. I thought you would just take a real flag and use it, but of course, that wouldn’t give enough fabric...
And damn, what a disappointment: you get all the colors, and we get black and white 😢
