    Its amazing to see those minor adjustments he has made this series. Those are minor adjustments but make massive difference. Kohli is essentially covering the stunps so that he can play through covers, but he will also defend to the balls he should be leaving.
    And you love that, Kohli always looking to be aggressive but every technique has some flaw in it. Great analysis.

      Jalaj, not inoften one’s strength is also one’s weakness. Some of the best handlers of searing short stuff like Ponting and Dravid and Kholi don’t hook,they r adept at pulls,grounding their shots. They are seldom caught off their pulls.Rohit hooks,hooks nonchalantly, with ridiculous ease and often banish the bumpers with disdain. A couple of breathtaking 6 , and he perishes playing the same,very risky shot. He does not ground his pull. A century is tragically cut short to a brilliant cameo,35-45,a double century became 127. What u care for,whether it is a splendid entertainment or impregnable,dour solidity,is purely subjective. Half the ground might dye to see Rohit unfurl his hazardous signature hooks and the other half’d beg him to hang in there and craft a double ton before cutting loose. Very tough choice.

    • @1uamrit
      @1uamrit 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      probably with T20 and modern cricket, batsman don't try to stick on the crease more often than they used to. Batsman nowadays seem to lack a determination to play on spinning or swinging pitch. But that's just my hypothesis.
      I am no Jarrod and it may just be our nostalgia that previous gen bowlers were greats and this generation bowlers to are legends on the making. We also seem to remember the great stuffs like Waqar's inswinging yorkers more than other bad stuffs
      I too want a complete analysis on this one

    • @rajr5130
      @rajr5130 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Previous generation bowlers were great with raw talents but modern day bowlers are so advanced and they have access to so much information about a particular batter and they work out and execute a plan to perfection with a bit assistance from playing conditions. for eg look at how england dealt with KL rahul after his century, they set him up nicely by nipping it back in for lbw after taking few balls away from the off stumps. Same goes for many players and modern day bowlers have so much help with data and analysis.

    • @nishagovil9207
      @nishagovil9207 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      It's really tough to compare bowlers of different era because of different teams, different conditions and less analysis etc etc. If you start to compare Wasim Akram with Anderson, straight up everyone will say Wasim because of better record in Asia but there is a glitch. The ball does not reverse swing much in Asia as it used to be earlier which is a really important tool for swing bowlers. For some teams, yes they did had better bowlers earlier than today but some teams have better bowlers today than past. Eg- India and NZ probably have better bowlers than they had 20 years ago. Whereas someone like a WI or SA do'nt have the bowlers.

    Let's be honest here Virat is freak and has always pushed envolope for fitness and batting standards and Rightfully he is modern legend and Cover drive is his productive shot in all formats plus he loves to dominate the game.
    On other hand Tendulkar is in many ways more technically sound, had diverse range of shots from textbook drives to unconventional paddles or Upper cuts, he can score hundreds or 241 without playing a certain shot and can rely on defence to counter great bowling so even someday he had stopped playing pull or even straight drive he could still score bulk with other shots.
    In Virats case he is not good on backfoot so he always depend on drive which us both productive and great for him. Simply we can put Virat can shelve his drive but don't have luxury like Tendulkar of great backfoot play as well as few other shots and meanwhile shelving cover drive is giving mental advantage to bowlers like yes I'm not in good form and a player who has dominated cricket for a decade and wants to continue to do so shouldn't worry about it.
    He is first Virat Kohli not second Tendulkar which makes the different.
    Do he need little change in technique: Might be
    Do he need to stop playing Cover drive: NO

    Agreed . More than his off stump I think he will be more fluent standing a foot outside the crease. Reduce swing time. Tempt the bowlers to bounce him. Which can bring his well timed pull shot into play as well. Not mention he will still be able to feast off his cover drives, on drives and breed dread into the bowlers at the same time.

    sachin, when he used to play the cover drives, he was incredibly still and didn't really come in front of the off stum, you can tell that even by looking at his clips in this video....on the other hand, kohli comes slightly across and in front of the off stump to play his drives, even though his drives are just so on point, it is difficult to play like that as the ball than automatically closer to the body and when a ball is close to the body, you have to play it coz it's then too close to leave and that's why he nicks it....in this series, so far the gap between his bat and pad is perfect, which is why he was able to dispatch those balls for perfect over drive, it allows him more time to decide whether to leave it or not....kohli heroics on the way...hope for a kohli ton too, sharma played so brilliantly, heard he got some blows on hi thighs and saw the pics, hope it's not too serious.....we are winning this series....conquring both Australia and England in the same year would be dope aff

    Hi Jarrod, can you please share your opinion on whether or not excluding Ashwin from the first 4 tests was justified based on the conditions? PS. hope you are keeping well

    Ipl is the main reason why India despite the talent and the players have failed to impress much in overseas tests.
    Senior players don't commit to domestic tournaments citing fatigue but everyone is fresh and ready for IPL.
    Pujara seems to be the lone player who plays Ranji consistently but this year he too opted for the IPL instead of County despite his struggles. .

    • @vineethpinto903
      @vineethpinto903 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As if India were winning overseas tests before IPL. And Ranji doesn't contribute anything for playing in English conditions. Playing county will help definitely. Pujara and rahane play for only one format. They should have played county

    • @JarrodKimberYT

      They’re the second best team in the world on rankings. And I still think they’d edge out NZ in a longer series. They beat Australia. Think they’re pretty goid

    • @rishab59
      @rishab59 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@detectivesroy is that even matter? India played pretty impressive in that series. How come India is the only team winning there? England, New Zealand even struggled to give a fight. Here India winning there with their 3rd 11. You are saying it's bcz dropped catches and flat pitches. So going by your logic steve smith struggled in flat pitches or India bowled pretty impressive.

    if he does not drive, he will score no runs!!

  • @billyshears581
    @billyshears581 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fact:
    * Sachin was ~31 years old when he did that at SCG in 2004
    * Kohli's last test century came in 2019 when he was 31 years old!
    Also,
    Wrt Sachin's reference,
    Australian attack without its best bowlers: Disagree.
    Australia had McGrath missing from the squad for sure, but there were Brett Lee, Jason Gillespie & Nathan Bracken in that match, with the former two being a part of front line Australian attack in red ball cricket for several years!
    Moreover, Gillespie has a good test career average & he was able to take Sachin's wicket on numerous occasions over the years.
    Virat Kohli needs to figure out a way to tackle this, a batsman of his caliber surely can, & hopefully will figure it out eventually. Sachin's reference by sportsmen like Waugh just provides a perspective for Kohli who is now devoid of an international century for several months! Scoring big runs provide great confidence boost which sometimes even big players need. And sometimes you need that confidence alongside working on & changing your technique.
