Imagine following Miles Davis Cannonball Adderly and John Coltrane yet somehow Bill Evans totally does it and takes over the song for his solo. One of the coolest recordings ever
+Tom Djll I keep coming back to this recording just because of that cannonball entrance. It's like he steps up to the plate and just exclaims, "Step aside gents! This is how it's done." Love this recording.
It is, but this tune is not from Kind of Blue. It's from '58 Miles' which are the same musicians from that album (excluding Wynton Kelly) but not the same album. Just FYI.
Miles was never bad off. Sure, in the early days with Charlie Parker, one of his idols. He done somthin about his heroin problem unlike just about everyone on this track and made it out, well into his 60s. Many of the great ones died young during the magical 50s Golden era.
@@robertwoodward9231 I highly recommend reading his self-biography. To say he was never bad off is disagreeing with Miles himself. It took a lot for him to actually get better, he didn't play the trumpet for half a decade to recover dude.. And in that time, when he tried (and ultimately succeeded) getting off drugs, working girls indeed kept him alive. Again pretty much his own words. Read the book, it's worth it.
Each soloist brings their total originality to their solos . I think it's great how different Cannonball's and Coltrane's solos actually are . The whole feel is so different.
I think you are alluding to the conversation between them. It what the greats say is missing in jazz. We see the greatest techniques but rarely witness a conversation.
"Kind of Blue" is not "one of Miles most celebrated albums..." It's actually, one of the most celebrated albums in the history of recorded music. This tune is not from "Kind of Blue" but thanks very much for posting it.
This recording of Love For Sale does appear on the re-released legacy version of Kind Of Blue. It was originally released on 1958 Miles, though. I think it is relevant to Kind of Blue because it was an earlier experiment with some modal playing, with Bill Evans on piano.
I would say this is best track i have heared from Miles Davis It is my favourite as there are also some big stars playing here such Bill Evans, Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane
Bill Evans nor John Coletrain are on this album. That's Hank Jones on piano. This is on the first side of Something Else" The second side is Miles playing in a higher register that I hadn't heard and Adderly's bluesy sax. One of the best, no doubt!??
Quarantine and chill with a glass of wine, looking out the window at some big beautiful majestic trees and vibing to Miles. Does not get any better than this, except being in a beach house on a hill looking out the ocean.
Cannonball broke up his own quintet and joined Miles and one of the greatest albums in all of jazz was spawned, called Something Else. This is on side one but side two is really something else!!
This was a 1958 job, not Kind of Blue... besides, no one ever played it better than Parker.. he was so true to the tune, and thats what it is all about. Adderley is just funny, he was such a sandbagging nuisance on Blue.. and Miles cant even play it right here . He struggled with many tunes after all, most notably Monks Round Midnight. I´m no hater, mind you... I love his slurred notes.. the empty spaces between notes .. it makes a great impact to the story telling, and music is all about that
Yes Miles had been playing what's called a modal style and he was using the mute can more often. This is my least favorite song on the great Something Else album and side two is just incredible. One of the best jazz albums, all time! I didn't care much either for his take on Round Midnight but he kept to the changing tides of music and seldom if ever looked back. Bitches Brew is a great example.
