Shame on you. This wonderful woman & incredible dancer Madame Poole is NOT 100 years old here. It is impressive enough that she is dancing like this in her 80's. Why try to make it sound astonishing when it is already amazing?

@@larrystowing7385 I have, actually. There's a nonprofit called Dance For All Bodies that teaches classes online every week that are tailored to accommodate people with disabilities. There's a modern class designed for deaf/hearing impaired dancers, which is cool. My problem is my joints, though, so I'm a fan of their Seated Salsa class. I'm eagerly anticipating the day they add seated ballet. Ballet was my first love, but the pointe shoes did not love my EDSer ankles back 😂 I will be all over seated ballet at any opportunity. I had to quit dancing when it was doing more harm to my hips than it was doing good for my happiness and mental health. I got to a point where I dislocated a hip in every rehearsal and every performance. I even tried out for my high school team my sophomore year with both hips subluxated. Still made the team and with the 3rd highest audition score, but really damaged my hips in the process. We dance because we love to dance, but dancing doesn't always reciprocate.

For those who don't know much about ballet: she is dancing a classical variation called "The dying swan". All of her movements represent a swan fighting for it's life and trying to fly one last time, until it runs out of breath. It's even more symbolic, considering this is her last dance. The swan's moves are soft, melancholic and beautiful, and in my eyes- it fully represents this ballerina's journey and the ending of it. Beautiful❤

This is indeed extraordinary. The ability to dance "en pointe" means the entire body weight is being supported by the toes requiring perfect alignment. It's difficult for the most professional dancers to maintain this position but even more amazing at this age. Pointe defines grace, beauty, elegance while appearing to be almost weightless & defying gravity.
Swan Lake is the timeless story of love, betrayal & tragedy. Often times the part of Odette & Odil are played by the same ballerina to highlight both their similarities & differences. There have also been alternate endings for the ballet.

She was trained shortly before Balanchine's tenure as National Director for ballet, so she was trained for strength and endurance as well as for elegance of grace and as you can see there is an incredible difference because of it since the majority of ballet dancers today are done at age 20-22 if they aren't the Principle Ballerina for a company by then and their careers are generally over by the time they are in their mid 20s. Thankfully Ballet Companies and their schools are starting to teach the importance of muscle maintenance and overall body integrity (condition) to dancers now.

I also met Grandpa Al Lewis, he told me his secret when I was 30 and wanted to give up acting for being " too old". He had to lie about his age to get the role of Grandpa, he ADDED ten years, and was the Grandfather in the TV Show!

There are those we meet along the journey who just make that incredible impression on us. I had 2 people like this working in Rehab. The woman was in her late 70's and before she left, she walked with her heels and purse around the Unit. She was a small thin woman, but exuded such life. Wherever she went, she'll make friends for sure.
The other. a man in his 90's who used to be a chocolatier. He looked young, (chocolate?) 😄, but he did so well physically, Stood at the top of the steps and said. " I stand before you, because I have no place to sit" He died at 99.

Light House No disrespect but you need to spend more time with older people. Many older people can pass for 20 yrs younger than they are. It's really about keeping yourself in shape, continuing to do what you've always done, & keeping your mind active with continued & new goals. Actually 60 or 70 really isnt old, even though when we're young we tend to think it is. You'll get this when you reach that age, when all of us were young we thought it was old, despite what older people told us. Truthfully even people who are young can get to where they can barely walk. This dancer obviously continued doing what she loved. Good for her for keeping it up & good for her for making sure she's having a good life by not deciding she's too old now.

@@caryulmer5578 Can confirm. My childhood ballet teacher is 80 years old now, and she only just retired from teaching ballet last year. She is still in amazing shape, because she always practiced ballet her entire life.
I, however, am in my 40's obese, with osteoarthritis, thyroid problems, borderline diabetes, and high cholesterol (ALL problems that I brought upon myself, by having poor nutrition and a sedentary lifestyle for most of my adult life.) I can hardly hobble around, now. I'm much too young to be feeling this damned old.
I don't expect to do ballet (I weigh too much and my joints are too shot for that) but I CAN improve my health, energy and mobility IF I get serious about eating a nutrient rich diet, portion control, cutting way down on junk food, and excersizing daily. Gentle yoga, swimming, biking, rowing... low impact stuff.
Do yourself a favor while you're still young: Be a nutri-tarian. Eat a good, nutritient rich diet. Lots of omega 3, folate, vitamins A,B6, B12,C,D3,E. Antioxidants. Lots of water. And keep moving. Get good sleep and keep your stress down as much as possible. If you have someone in your life bringing you stress and strife, putting you down,, pushing you around... get away from them. That kind of stress takes it's toll before you realize it! Don't let it. Words to the wise.
      Care for yourself. Get massages.

Okay, this is not only incredible for her age, but for the implications of her experience. Ballet dancers can't typically go en pointe for too long and may go demi after relatively short periods of time en pointe. (I say relatively when compared to a ballerina's total years of dancing.) This woman has no doubt gone through some serious injuries from ballet and yet persevered through that to give this performance. Pretty heckin cool!

People should note: you don't see her skin sagging or bones sticking out like you do with most older folks. Her movements were all smooth and controlled, her posture straight and elegant. She had no obvious trouble getting down on one knee and standing up again. She carries no visible body fat, but she does show muscles. She is very slim but shows none of the gauntness at the neck and collarbone most elders show when the body's fat "migrates south". This ballerina has obviously worked at her dance movements, strength, and flexibility every day since she began dancing to maintain this level of perfection. I dare any who doubt her strength and stamina to stand on tippy toe and mimic her movements while you watch this in real time. She is a beautiful example of dedication to her art.
