    It seems to me that without daily practice of quietening the mind until it becomes still, meditation, the matter of being/not being a separate self is fraught with doubt and a degree of anxiety that troubles people. In the empty stillness of meditation, there is no separate self, only pure unmediated awareness, and it is lovely - there is no anxiety or doubt. I think this is the problem with non-duality when it is unsupported by practice.

    I’m normally intimidated by such long dialogues, so thank you for adding the time stamps¡ Otherwise I probably would not have watched this video and then I would have missed this gem of a discussion on fear and anxiety.
    It has given me a lot to contemplate in my own experience. Gracias Francis¡

    Wishful thinking (I am certain this wish has been expressed many times): May these videos with Francis find their way to the curriculum of any education. On the other hand, freedom is not further away just because the educational system has not embraced it. The immediacy of freedom is not compromised.

      It's a paradox. You feel strange when back from work in silence. Yet I spend most the day in silence, love it, but I am afraid to goto work.
      What is wrong for one. Is right with the other. All in the flase self of course.
      In our true self....we are free from such anxiety and fear.
      If we could.swap, we would still be in the same predicament. 😅

    Am I right in thinking that Francis's approach (and Advaita Vedanta) is more of a jnana yoga approach? I find him extraordinarily clear; yet sadly my temperament is suited to bhakti yoga.

    Sometimes when I watch Francis' videos, despite being so grateful for and uplifted by them, I can't help but think that he has the worst job in the world: to repeat the same truths over and over and over, like a professor at a school for amnesiacs.
    And after so many years, I am embarrassed to say that I seem to be another one of those amnesiacs....

      I agree, he is amazing. I get frustrated sometimes (not always) by the questioning by certain people - especially if it takes them ages to formulate their question and /or ask something that Francis very eloquently just answered. At the same time I realise that these people are asking these questions sincerely so my irritation isn’t important as long as they are receiving help. I can always fast forward to Francis’ response.

      The sheer endurance of the fear has actually made it worse i.e. when is this ever going to end? I want timelines, not wordplay.

    • @ellisgarvin
      @ellisgarvin ปีที่แล้ว

      @@squamish4244 Sorry to hear you're suffering, my friend. It sounds like something that might need a deeper investigation and more support than is possible in the TH-cam comment section?
      I have gotten a lot of help from various therapies over the years. They're not a replacement for the teachings you find here, nor are the teachings here the most effective medicine for every individual and every issue.
      If you're bleeding you need a bandage, not nondualism. If you're hungry you need a (veggie) burger, not nondualism, etc. 🙂

    Consciousness is impersonal but still perceived by the individual and being attentive as an individual to that fact can draw the veil and 'change the tide' - possibly.
    The 'happiness' of the golden or even more thsn often rusty cage is the validation of the self. As long as there is mentally an existential clinging to the own separate existence, man will not know freedom.
    The little as the big fears make us feel alive. Somehow it seems if you take the fear away, there will also be no fun. This is equalled with death. And that makes man shy away from seeing into the structure of fear properly.

    • @NJB28
      @NJB28 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Francis has said that the little fears make things interesting. He has also said that after self-realization The Big Fear is gone and that is the fear of dying and ceasing to exist. Sounds pretty good to me.
