Love my SG special! It's incredibly versatile. You can go from crazy crunchy tones to cleans with just the volume control. The P90's are incredible. It's a must have guitar.

Superb job, I own 3 Standard 61 SG’s and NEED this one! I love p90’s the only thing that I will absolutely change is the bridge on this

I bought one of these a couple of years ago so it's well played in now.
Have to say it's a very addictive guitar to play - it's the only P90 guitar I have and it gets used on pretty much every recording I do. Double strat cleans with the neck and it's instant "width" or a crunch track behind pretty much anything for a real sense of "weight".
I've been tempted to change out the pickups, bridge and tuners for the fun of it but I'm reluctant to mess with it at this point.
If you're reluctant to buy one of these because of neck dive or some other pretend "problem" you'll be missing out.

Those clean tones on the sg are really speaking to me, they are amazing, I could see myself writing some cool music with those tones.

With 2019+ SGs there is a high chance to find heavy models (3+ kg) with a lack of neck dive! I had a JR and played Specials, fantastic guitars! Super resonant, perfect sound (Gibson's P-90 are outstanding), great neck profiles. Noise level is quite low, just ignore it. Nice review, sir!:)

The P90s are pretty inspiring & cut through the mix!

The SG Special has a tone that no other Gibson has, the most versatile. From the clean glassy tones of the Doors to raw power of Black Sabbath.
P90s for the win! Plus the neck and fretboard are excellent, definitely better than fenders of the same price range.

I swapped out the pickup covers for cream ones. That sucker pops!

Great demo! I have both the Special and Junior. I gravitate towards the Special, but the Junior has a more aggressive sound, which can be fun. I love them both, and they have become my one and two guitars when I perform live.

Love my `01 PT SG! Your playing and thoughts on the p90 loaded Special were spot on IMO. Great vid.

Awesome content as always! I wish they still made them with trapezoid inlays.

Specials usually come with Dot Inlays. It would be weird if they had Trapezoids on them in their Original Series. I always found it weird when they used to make the SG Tribute and the older SG Faded and they didn't have Trapezoid Inlays. But I like the Junior and Special Series with Dots. Cheers -Ryan

Thank-you for the ridiculous time you put in A-B-ing all that gack. I thought for the last comparo you were going to compare a hair dryer with it or something ....👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
After owning a bazillion SGs I finally at age 70 got my 1st P90 ANY type guitar. I lucked into a MINT Iommi Monkey w/case and all candy so with the Iommi quirks - the adjustable bad-ass style wraparound; the top horn strap button, the witch hats sitting high, the phat-ass wide plek'd neck and those 2 chrome Tony Iommi marked P90s holy smokes what an intro to a P90 loaded SG and I got it all for price of new Special. Thanks again for the detailed comparisons.....and for not using the SAME OLD GENERIC CHORD CHANGES EVERY DAMN SWAYLOR TITS USES via sneakin' in some jazz-em-up vamps....trés cool. SG or no G!!!! 🎸

How is the neck dive on the SG? Would you get the SG or Les Paul Jr. This is exactly the video I needed to help me make a choice. Thanks!

Im VERY tempted to trade my American Fender tele for one of these things! The fender is beautiful in color with a orange/red burst and had the thing for years. But for some reason im just digging the lack of flash and more functionality with the gibson especially when comparing the single coils and p90s. The p90s just seem to have more oomph and interaction with your strumming hand. The Mahogany body adds to the warmth as well unlike alder. I could go on and on lol.
    Must play one though!
