A great episode, but I found had a different "feel" to most others, and not just because it runs 35 minutes. At times it almost feels more like a stage play than a sitcom. This could be explained by the last-minute change of director and producer from Series 1 . The actors occassionally appear a bit under-rehearsed, for example when David Jason clumsily says "consideration" twice in the same sentence, showing a possible lack of familiarity with the script. Also there often seems to be a lot of ad-lib going on at times as if the actors and director are changing lines as they go along.
@Mike you are absolutely right, I love your observations and comments on here and please do give me more on up and coming episodes, as i would and should of included these sentiments. Grandad seems to look at the camera crew saying "was that alright" it was very much make it up - but in some ways that made it incredibly special - its 15 minutes of real life with the trotters - similar to how Royal Family portrayed just sitting around is entertaining when its with family.

The other sitcoms the BBC gave a Christmas Special to included Last Of The Summer Wine (Xmas day) and Terry and June (mid-evening on the 28th, a Monday - the same day as OFAH). Has to be said OFAH did well to even be offered a Christmas Special only a few weeks after end of it's first series. The Christmas 1981 BBC One schedules were dominated by old films like "Battle Of Midway", and light entertainment like The Two Ronnies, Mike Yarwood and Val Doonican. But Xmas-wise, things were quickly to change in the Trotter's favour 😂
The repeated and false laughter spoils this whole vid. The original is not like this. What the heck is all the pop up writing supposed to mean??? Spoils everything.
This is the only way to get it through the copyright filters, it's that or no video at all unfortunately we only fools gets a very raw deal, which is why its so hard to see any only fools on TH-cam
