    Do that same grip you show. Now grab ghe back of the disc and pull it off of your palm. It has helped me create so much snap and FORCES a front load into the pointer.

    Help me understand your project here. You want to play pro circuit and you are currently trying to tweak and extend your form to squeak out a consistent 400ft which I presume means full power throw with your body? How are you going to sustain your joint health on a pro tour level daily grind? Seems like you would instead want to figure out the science of strength/conditioning/nutrition/rest cycles to get stronger. It seems the pros can throw 400ft consistently while using 50-60% power and very middle of the road form effort? In 10-15yrs your body will show you about joint deterioration and strain and it isnt fun. Play smart now and your future you will thank you.

    15:20 - it looks like you let your drive foot stay planted on your heel, which doesn't shift your weight to the front effectively. Your rear foot essentially rolls over instead of driving the weight into your brace. This probably is why you don't see your legs close together like the pro shots.
    Stay on the ball of the back foot. Land your weight into front side and swing.

    Obviously this is just my opinion but you seem to try to take on sooooo many different form adjustments, tweaks, and changes almost daily instead of picking one and really working on it until it’s a solidified change. In almost all studies done in regards to what the best way to actually make progress and real changes throughout practice, repetition repetition repetition (although it seems counterintuitive) is actually the worst way to go about practicing. This was a major focus of our studies both in the lab in our university as well as out in the field, course, court, etc…. I will say that disc golf was not a specific sport studied in our research, however the results across several sports were very consistent.
    Again, I can only go off of what I see via your videos you share with us, but this is the impression I get from you and the videos. Stick with building the proper foundation and up from there rather than trying to fix several things you happened to see in one of your slow motion videos of your throws in the field. You’re trying to take on too much at once. Of course like I stated previously, this is simply my opinion based solely on what I see from you and your very fine, well made videos. I hope it comes across that way and not as me trying to correct you or scold you or anything along those lines.
    Keep up your hard work, it’s very respectable and I love that you’re honest and open about your true goals and actually putting in the work to try to realistically achieve them! It’s inspiring to many and it’s very much appreciated, Bodanza!!! Good luck dude!!

      Appreciate this comment! Definitely something I struggle a bit with. Most singular sessions i do aim to just work on one thing, but this will be a good reminder when I start to stray lol. I just tend to like to overshare and if I see more things that can be wrong I like to call them out and ask in case something clicks before another coaching session. I process in a weird way hahaha, but I'm not going to deny the research! Thanks for the support, sean!

    When I first started playing, watched a Danny Lindahl video where he showed the nose down grip of Will's you referenced and that's been my basic grip ever since. I've got problems with drives but throwing nose up isn't one of them.

    I found the 3-step walkup - essentially the cross-step, helped me get over the hump in a few areas regarding that movement. Essentially what Corey Ellis does, and I have a newfound appreciation for it after Sai Ananda's recent performance in Houston.

    • @SamuelB-
      @SamuelB- ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, the 3-step walkup really helped me nail down that part of the throw. I still use a three step from time to time myself, it's a useful thing to have learned appreviated walkups or standstill for those situations where there is limited footing.

    Aye! Looking good now! Looks like OTD got your weight moving towards the front - instead of diagonally. Nice! You'll get there bud. Have a fun season - that's the most important thing. I think your scramble game is strong. Now with the added distance, I think you'll enjoy this season more. Take your high percentage shots and shave some throws of your average. It's okay to be discouraged - but rise above all that noise and beat it.

    Using that off arm correctly took my game to another level. I gained easy 30ft distance and also my timing and accuracy improved a lot. Huge thanks to Josh for pointing that out when he took a look at my form. Another great thing which has been helping me is the video where you two were comparing your form with Simon's form. The fact how he's run up is so smooth almost like floating thanks to keeping overall center of the gravity in the middle

    What’s the need for throwing 400’ consistently? How many holes are you actually playing that are 400’+? It’s not about how Far you can throw. Stock Hyzer? Overstable? Maybe start with something under stable, and teach yourself how to throw the Flex shot. Let the discs work for you, not the other way around. I was a stock Hyzer flipper, but couldn’t get the angles right, and the distance lagged, so switched some things up a little bit. Now I just fly over everything with ease.

    That “drop” you mentioned not clicking is something I’m also really struggling with. When it works, magic happens. But the slide idea doesn’t seem to line up with the “crush the beer can” or “fall backwards off the ledge” or “sit on the stool techniques.”
    Getting that firm plant settled down before starting my pull has been something I can get figured out, but then it slips. Never feels natural. Any breakthroughs here?

  • @vega1221
    @vega1221 ปีที่แล้ว

    So one thing that clicked for me was to stop thinking about my off arm and off leg. I'll I started doing after about a year of form restructure is slow down the reach back and almost delay it from what your normal timing was. This creates more lag. This allowed my to get an extra 50 plus feet easily. Trust me i am like you overanalyzing everything...You're doing great!

    I also had grip issues in controlling nose angle! I found that using a three finger grip (dropping the pinkie) when throwing drivers allowed me find that extra range of motion in the wrist. It also makes front loading my grip far more comfortable, as I can do it without feeling any forearm strain. This might primarily have to do with wrist mobility or hand size.

    Something that really helped me out, that Will Schusterick actually talks about in his video as well, is keeping your body perpendicular to the target throughout the last four steps, and I don't hear this talked about often. For myself it feels like I have way more time to get my upper body into the proper position instead of feeling like I'm just turning back quickly then turning forward before I get my full reachback potential. All I did was add another step in, so I start my run up on my right foot then turn my left foot 90 degrees from the target to get my body fully turned earlier, it felt a little weird at first, but after like an hour of field work I notice a significant distance increase. This might not work for everyone, but I figured I'd throw it out there since, like I said, I don't see a lot of people talking about this.

    • @BodanzaDiscGolf
      @BodanzaDiscGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      definitely another piece of the puzzle I want to work on!

  • @menneskeeter
    @menneskeeter ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Anthony, watching the video, this is the same thing I have been working on lately. I discovered something really interesting, when I activate my off arm, I turn the hand (the off arm hand, left hand in my case), I turn the palm of my hand away from my body. This affects the shoulder in a way that improves tension between the back of my shoulders. I reach straight down and turn my hand this way every time. I think it is a good idea to always rotate the hand to the same position in every throw to get good consistency. In some of your latest clips, it looks like you are doing exactly this, but I am not sure you do the same thing every time as I could not hear you talking about this during the video.
    Also, talking about nose angle, I have had a pretty strange issue, and I think I just found the cause of it. When I throw a disc that I kind of fear I will not throw great, I get nose up. I think that when I worry about getting enough force, speed and spin into the disc, I actually force the grip so that I get nose up. It was Josh's short video on "Turning the key" that pointed me in the right direction.
    It kind of also looks like you are musceling the disc when you start to set the reach back on x-step. A good mindset to avoid this can be to do a deliberate push with your left shoulder as you set x-step.

    3:05 Yes, that grip changed everything for me, saw it in a Paul Ulibarri clinic.
    I kept loading pressure on from my middle to pinky fingers, and not as much pointer finger (an issue learned from fan gripping).
    The grip starting in the bottom palm, with fingers wrapped (pointer first, then other fingers follow) produces a more parallel plane to the Earth.
    After adopting this grip, my nose up issue was cured and consistancy has increased dramatically for angles.

    • @zachocracy
      @zachocracy ปีที่แล้ว

      9:30 an interesting compliment to the counterbalance would be Simon's latest vlog where he gives a tip for arm position.
      Rather than rounding, or using arm strength, think of it this way:
      - on approach, your arm should be straight out (like you're pointing at someone while facing them) and only come behind you because your shoulder is pointing behind you, then follow through with your power pocket elbow which naturally creates a whip action with the remainder of arm. Eric Oakley is a good exaggerated example.

    • @zachocracy
      @zachocracy ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks like you naturally throw hyzer and bend over a little bit. I do the same thing when playing RH so I decided to implement hyzer flips and go with my natural motions while improving little things, which increased my max distance.
      I use a 175g F7 RHBH or a 166g Star IT for LHBH and hit between 350-415ft depending on the arm. _Still improving though_

    im new to discgolf and i wonder if your left fot should be sliding like that in the throw, ive herd you should try to lift it from dthe ground so you dont lose speed
    awsome work tho!

  • @eviljinius337
    @eviljinius337 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    your plant step is too long, forcing your hip to drop as your leg reaches for the ground. this prematurely shifts your weight over your plant leg, like you're jumping from your left leg to your right. this is why your left leg has to straighten instead of remaining chambered. i suggest shortening your plant step/stance so that you can mimic "converging knees" like the pros. try practicing this stance stationary, and whipping from the power pocket to feel how your core rotation is powering by posting against both legs, almost equally. also, when performing the plant step, experiment with sliding your toe on the ground to help you avoid stomping as you land from your plant jump.

    This video of Jaani's helped me with 'muscling' the disc:
    th-cam.com/users/shortsmooqyGhYq-k
    I don't specifically like his form in this video (he leans into the throw), but I like what he's getting at... To me he points at introducing more lag before pulling forward. For me this resulted in a slightly better reach-back & more of a whip, with less 'muscling' the disc. Just a slight delay... it allowed me to slow down & shorten my walk-up and still get more distance.
    Something to play with that might help you, or maybe not! :)

    Anthony Barela like what he does and clearly isnt anything special in strength or height getting discs out to 650ft in a rope flipping up an over stable driver even getting some turn .. im starting to think the forward momentum BEFORE the xstep occurs is what gets them from 450 - 550 then i think arm speed gets them from 550-650 and im talking golf lines not sky annys.. i think you should get a MPH tester for your arm speed.. Lizotte proved arm speed does equal distance

    • @josephholbert315

    • @NickCarroll
      @NickCarroll ปีที่แล้ว

      @@josephholbert315 What happened in the video is Raivis Markons-Craig was air bouncing his throws, taking a lot of speed off it. There is a correlation between arm speed and disc speed after release, but the less clean your release is, the greater the reduction in possible speed of the disc once it leaves your hand. The conclusion of that video couldn't take that into account because they didn't realize it was happening. Raivis has actually done a bit to reduce that air bounce since then, incidentally.
