There are parallels for Poles...
100 agree with you Faiz. I say we swing for the fences. Young QB with a young up and coming HC. Nothing risked, nothing gained. It's taking a chance with Ben Johnson because no one know if he can be a HEAD COACH. A play caller and OC he is for sure but can he be the big dog?!
I have to disagree, I think Mike McCarthy for a few years could be very good for Caleb's development. I dont have him ahead if Ben Johnson, but hes proven as a HC and developing a QB
I'm with you. Faiz is fixated by the idea that one person is going to swoop in and magically turn it around for the Bears. I think you need a HC who knows how to build a team from nuts to guts.
I’m with you, Faiz! I want Ben Johnson as Bears HC. McCarthy has good regular season records but not so much in postseason, especially at his last job with the Cowboys. Like you said, McCarthy is a safe hire with low ceiling. I want the Bears to make a “swing for the fences” hire. Sure, Johnson doesn’t have HC experience but anyone can gain experience if given the chance. So give Ben Johnson a chance.
I agree. I don't think anyone would be mad if the Bears went hard with Ben Johnson and it didn't work out. At least they would be TRYING to win instead of trying to not lose.
I want Mike McCarthy. He is a proven coach and Ben Johnson is not. Everyone said the same about Brian Dabol being the best and you have seen how that has gone.
@GrantCentral-p2m then why has mcarthy been fired more than once from the HC position? If he was good Jerry would have gave him the contract he wanted
@Faiz I am fine with either, Ben Johnson is the hottest OC out there, so there is that. Mike is a proven HC with a60=% win rate and has been a good HC in numerous stops, and we have not had that in almost 20 years with Lovie Smith. So im fine with either, that said Id rather see Ben Johnson get the gig
Honestly the Bears need a coach with some damn experience. I really don’t see what’s with all of the Ben Johnson hype. Mike Vrabel was the best fit for the Bears. We need a coach who’s going to put his foot in their asses and Johnson don’t come across that
I'm with you. Faiz. Mccarthys time has passed his recent success. Has more to do with defense and Kellen Moore than it has to do with him. He had 2 hall of fame QBs and only won 1 Super Bowl. CW wants to grow with a coach and win multiple superbowls tryna pass Tom Brady for rings.
I wonder what next week's rumors will be? People are throwing them out left and right. At some point, everyone on the Bears' list will be the "front runner", assuming the process lasts until after the Super Bowl. I'm a little surprised the Raiders aren't going after Deion. They have an outside shot at getting his son, and Brady and Deion are friends. I want McCarthy to the Bears like I'd want a case of athlete's foot. Yeah, I could deal with it if it happens and eventually it will go away, but I'd just rather not deal with it at all.
There is one problem, Raiders and bears wait for Johnson till after Super Bowl. Johnson chose Raider and now bears 2nd and 3th choice is gone than what
Lmao! You say there’s a lot to overcome if Johnson goes to Vegas with the Chiefs, Broncos and Chargers!😂 I’m sure he’d do so much better in Chicago where he has to play the Lions, Vikings and Packers!😂😂😂 Or he could go to the AFC south and play the Titans, Colts and Texans!
Ben Johnson to the Raiders is real smoke. For one, the rumor mill is that he has a chance to have a clean slate to build the roster to his liking. I, as a Raiders fan personally am not falling all over myself about Ben Johnson. I'm not hating on him either. But the Raiders have 2 beat reporters who are really dialed into the organization. Hondo Carpenter and Vincent Bosignore practically say the same thing. They say he isn't tripping on the QB situation nor the division. It's believed that his loyalty to Dan Campbell is a factor that will strongly push him to the Raiders so as not to face him in the NFC Central or the NFC altogether. I think Ben Johnson's mind is already made up. The other stuff is just a formality at this point.
After one zoom interview. My call is his agent is putting stuff out there to raise the price for the Bears (maybe the Jags). Raiders aren't really that desirable of a spot relative to how picky Ben Johnson has appeared to be.
@conormurphy8330 the same could be said about the Bears. He might not clique with the Bears fornt office with Ryan poles there is more to this than at first glance. That's why the Raiders let go of Tom Telesco the GM. He had a decent first year as a GM. But the Raiders let him go to let their next coach align himself to a better fit with a new coach. Like isaud Ben Johnson wants build a team to his liking. The thought is long-term sustained success, which the Raiders will give him a long runway.
@FaizSportsTalk. I think you are selling the Raiders job a little short. Vegas has better weather and less taxes. The Raiders play in a dome which is great for an offense oriented coach. Johnson can deal directly with Mark Davis, no Poles or Warren interfernce. And , Johnson can pick his own QB.
McCarthy is the answer, snatch him up now and here’s why: Vastly experienced but not crazy old (61). Offensive minded, coached Farve, developed Rodgers, and developed Prescott. 4x consecutive 12 win seasons. Ask yourself, since harbaugh, what recent bears coach would you pick over McCarthy? None
If Ben Johnson and the Lions make it to the SB, you have to hold out until Feb. 10 to negotiate with Johnson. By then most of the candidates will be off the board, including McCarthy, and then what? I can promise you Johnson is not coming to Chicago. Johnson and his contingence were pounding for alignment with a GM and the Bears haven’t even EXTENDED Ryan Poles. Johnson is a lock to the Raiders.
Clearly want Bears to interview BJ in person and try land him, but if doesn't want to work in Chicago then McCarthy is fine number two option. As long as the Bears brass don't get antsy and hire McCarthy before the Lions are eliminated, that would be a very dumb move.
Not going to lie Mike Mccarthy has a similar Record to Mike Tomlin but Mccarthy has more Playoff wins although Ben Johnson is the highest ceiling as a young offensive minded coach but Mccarthy is the safest hire but low ceiling
I think Mike McCarthy is a safe pick and a proven winner. But I think I would prefer Ben Johnson too. But if Ben does get taken by the Raiders? Is McCarthy still available?
I think the bears will wait for Ben and Ben will pick the raiders forcing the bears to have to settle for another candidate because MM won’t wait for them.
I prefer Ben, but I won't be mad if we get McCarthy as long as it's because Ben chose another team over us. I'm ready for some watchable football in chicago
If it is a two horse race between Johnson and McCarthy, we will end up with McCarthy. Johnson will not choose the Bears. It should be two horse race between Johnson and Monken
I do like McCarthy. That said, AFC West coaches = 7 Superbowl appearances, 4 SB champions and one NCAA college national champion in playoff era. NFC north coaches = zero.
First Ben Johnson will not successful here because of George, with Mcarthy George can't mettle like with other inexperienced coaches. This is the most important factor, plus Mcarthy just finished working with Jerry Jones which makes him more than qualified to be here and win. Johnson not so much and remember Chicago is the hardest city for a new coach to win in and I think most people are missing this one point facts 💯
You also can be a great OC and still be a bust in the NFL. Many have been . Remember Norv Turner? The key ingredient for a HC is the ability to dominate the Locker Room. McCarthy looks ornery. Johnson doesn't. Tough call either way. But rest assured, the Bears are bound to screw it up either way.
Top 5 candidate for sure may even be as high as number 2 for me but the top 3 to 5 need to be looked at but stop wasting time with 19 guys to interview or whatever they are at now.
MCCARTHY IS THE DOC RIVERS OF THE NFL!!! Winning a superbowl 15 years with a HOF qb doesn’t mean anything. Bears fans are absolutely cooked with the mental gymnastics they’re doing convincing themselves all these random bums are a good fit.
Even though i have my issues with McCarthy , his clock management is atrocious at times & he seems like a big softy but he does have a winning record everywhere he goes. My only issue with Ben Johnson actually isn't even an issue w/ him, it's just that the Bears never get 1st time HC hires right so it almost feels like a jinx at this point. I'm with McCarthy.
Yall making this solely about Caleb, what about the rest of the team. Mike developed qbs and can’t run a team. You have zero evidence that Ben can do both at a high level. Bears need stability. Not a first time head coach
Ben Johnson has no record as a head Coach. We have hired those Hot guys and failed Matt Nagy who didn't and still doesn't call plays. McCarthy record is rivaled to Tomlin. And Tomlin is a worse Coach than McCarthy has the same SBs as Tomlin whom I would never trade for. Non of your guys were first in Offense Dallas was in 22 and 23. Bears need a QB Guru. Ben also a good choice if they willing to add good staff for him and also bring his own GM. BTW the Bears could end up with a Nobody from the middle of the pack. It better be Ben or Mike.
I don’t see you. What’s the problem with Mike McCartney like I get it y’all don’t want him because of what happened in Dallas this year but let’s keep it a buck. Mike McCartney is not to blame for what happened to the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones deserve most of the blame. 🤷🏾♂️💯
I'm worried about ben johnson....right now 100% of focus goes to offensive efficiency....thats what makes him good. You can't do that as a head coach. You have way too many things going on. Things you don't even think of...for sure it has an impact on you just not having the time and energy to focus on 1 thing.

Not Ben Johnson we need somebody we know can be a head coach. Not somebody we hope can be one .

I hope so
Better than Ben Johnson somebody you hoping can be a head coach. We know McCarthy can do it .
@GrantCentral-p2m then why has mcarthy been fired more than once from the HC position? If he was good Jerry would have gave him the contract he wanted
Raven’s OC Todd Monken. I think he’s scheduled for an interview.

I'll trade for him.

Will this change after Monken interview? I think so
He would be my #2

The bears should hire Monken. The ravens are a solid organization. They should hire Tee Martin as OC.
