They need skill based Forest and Agriculture community schools, not the regular education that brings them jobs. They need to learn agriculture, and how to take care forests, animals, and how to market their produce to rest of India. Government should give them special privileges to sell their product will indigenous marking.

@@harinig5799 what Seeni said is not wrong, she did mention community schools too. To start with the Siddis need to develop their own place before going to live in other places. They need to have control of their own land first and own environment, when the land get developed it will create other opportunities and prospects that have nothing to do with forestry. Because if the young Siddis start to leave their place, many of them might not come back, they might be more attracted by big towns, and who is going to develop their villages?

@@consecratedsister8153 it's fine if they want to do it. I'm saying that they shut be given the opportunity to choose. And just growing as a community and agricultural prospects is of no use in this era. I'm not saying it's bad but just agriculture is of no use. If they develop their village and get better income there is no guarantee that they wouldn't lose it to the corporates one day. Even as a community they must have all sorts of opportunities. And besides if the person decides to leave their village we have no right to blame them. Everyone needs money to survive and everyone has their goals and wishes to fulfill

+ vote for your attitude. However it is a complex situation for Siddis I suppose. They came from Africa 1000s of years ago and did not integrate with the local population. They are now used to living close to forest all these years. The local government has been trying to help them, for eg. there are sports programs to hand hold them out of their comfort zones. They are quite talented in sports.
The fact is there are opportunities in Karnataka(the state) and India, if only they can make an effort. The guy who interprets in English for this program came up through such government programs and it is up to people like him to pull up others in that community.
Yes India has its problems with discrimination, caste based, ethnicity based and offcourse race based. It breaks my heart to hear that girl talk about going back to Africa. I agree Africa has its share of economically developed areas but we all know it has more than its own fair share of economic and political issues. Siddis future lies here if they make an effort

BUT WAT SIDDHIS IS FACING IN THEIR OWN WORDS IS JUST COMMON ATTITUDE TOWARDS POOR PEOPLE OR LOWER CASTES. THEY ARE LIVING IN REMOTE JUNGLE AREA , SCHOOLS WONT BE THERE FOR EVERY INDIAN NOT JUST SIDDHIS. MY FATHER COMES FROM LOWER CASTE AND HAD TO WALK 10 KM FOR SCHOOL AND HE DID COMPLETE SCHOOLING,GRADUATION AND NOW WE ARE IN CITY WITH GOOD FACILITIES. ITS COMMON IN THIRD WORLD COUNTRY WHERE CITIES PROVIDE GOOD FACILITIES AND EVERYONE TRIES TO GO FOR SCHOOLING OR JOB PERSPECTIVE. URBAN INDIA IS MORE COSMOPOLITAN AND MORE AWARENESS COMPARE TO RURAL INDIA. THATS WHY EDUCATED SIDDHIS LEFT VILLAGES AND MOVED TO CITIES . I REQUEST THEM TO SINCERELY CONTINUE EDUCATION. INDIA HAS MANY ETHINCITIES AND RELIGIONS AND HIGH TOLERANCE ALSO, ITS COMMON FOR FEW MINORITIES ARE BACKWARD EDUCATION WISE. PEOPLE SHOULD DETERMINE THEMSELVES TO COMPLETE SCHOOLING. Gross neglect and discrimination? The majority of the Indian population is poor and is “neglected” and “discrimated” against in some way or the other. In that sense the Siddons are leading normal regular lives. You have no idea of what neglect and discrimination looks like in India. Please reserve your comments when you actually visit the country and see how the common man lives and have a context of what it means to suffer in this country. There are plenty of Indians who lead a life much much worse. You have absolutely no idea.

In the video, the lawyer chooses his words carefully before visualpoet interjects him with loan american words of racism. Neverthless, I know the Siddi experiece in India is equal to the lower castes, which I hope will become irrelevant with better education and opportunities. I know we have the motivation to do better. The lawyer says that educated Siddis are treated well when they move out to cities, away from their neighbourhood. On the contrary, African-Americans getting respect out of America. I hope people understand that difference. As with every Indian who wants to succeed, they have to come out of their comfort zone (of community, caste, religion, language), go out into the open world and learn. But, the problem is they're too reclusive and attached to the forest... Government should set up schools in their village itself... But, government schools are in a pathetic state in the big cities itself and private schools won't come there... And those who do manage to get out and improve their lives, they don't come back to help their community... The initiative should come from Siddis who are educated and now are in good positions... They mentioned about the brahmin community, there are brahmins in abject poverty too... But, the difference is they somehow manage to get their kids educated even if they'll end up having nothing to eat... This initiative has made the Brahmin community prosperous despite having no reservations and quota benifits... This is the reason why communities with all the quotas and reservation benifits are not able to surpass the brahmin kids when it comes to academics... That drive should come in all the communities... Brahmins never waited for any governments to help them... People say that the brahmin community has a historical advantage, but the only advantage I see is that as a community they have realized the importance of education and how its power to uplift the quality of life.

Why don't you sponser them in India? They are living in India from 10nth century. They will not leave India, as this is their own country. They created empires here, they played a role in history, they were warriors known for their military strength. They are known for their riches earned through virtual monopoly on sea trade. You have seen one side of the story. This story is a selected story from a remote village of India depicting some people outside from mainstream. My extended family living in a remote area is not in a better position than these guys. Siddis are spread all the western coast from Gujrat to remote South. Their economic and educational conditions vary vastly. Yes caste system is a reality, but it has nothing to do with ethnicity. And yes we all came from Africa, why don't you people sponser whole india to your continent.

You need to watch the documentary called Hebrews to Negroes th-cam.com/video/4kvKH7e5TaY/w-d-xo.html and then maybe those of you that are still living in Africa will understand that we are all one people. Many of your Tribes are all Hebrews (Yoruba, Igbos, Ewes, etc.) are all descendants of the Children of Israel...YES! the same people who Moses led out of Egypt into Israel and who later migrated across the continent. There will be another exodus because Yah said he was going to gather us from the 4 corners of the earth and bring us back to our land. Stop thinking you're different from the rest of us in the diaspora. We are all from one family..Jacob is our forefather and Abraham our great grandfather. The colonizers have done a great job in dividing us, but Bob Marley told us to emancipate ourselves from mental slavery...many of us are still enslaved in the mind. It's time to wake up and see what's really going on. If we stay divided, we will NEVER get back what we lost. Don't you think it's time? Just because they do not look like you, you think they're not family? Continue to think like that and stay in ignorance.

Why should everybody live in the city and why does it look like one can only get a better life in a city? In Europe, most well to do and talented people, live in villages. Life in the village is preferred by most people to city life. Every village in Europe, is self sufficient. Why can't we have the same mindset in Africa? Africa should stop destroying their towns and villages by selling lands to foreigners while they themselves move into the city with lot of hardship and suffering. Let us make our villages self sufficient by developing them. Every village should have a school, library, hospital, bank and a community or entertainment centers. Who is going to grow the food we eat if we all leave to the cities?

Even now young people tend to live in the cities in Europe. Because that’s where things are happening. It’s only once they get other the hype off the city that people seattle back in the country side.

Trust me it's not a mindset thing for Africa, you made valid points but mostly misinformed ones. There are very few talented Europeans living in villages and that's an even recent development. The villages are definitely overlooked by the government and country people who reside in cities but this is not a mindset . As he said in this village they prefer the village life, they're used to it, and they don't want to go to school whether or not the teachers treat them well, children anywhere in the world are like that, they don't want to go until they get encouragement, so imagine children growing up to know their parents and no one in their environment went to school, I'm sure they wouldn't see the need for it. As an African that grew up here and still lives here, ONE THING ANY AFRICAN KNOWS FOR SURE IS THAT AFRICAN PARENTS PRIORITISE EDUCATION SO MUCH THAT IT CAN BECOME UNHEALTHY EVEN. So I just wanted to correct you that this isn't a mindset thing. There was no such thing as western schooling pre colonialism, and after it had to be mandated because people were okay with their trading and farming lives.
