Make sure you carry the syringe that comes with Sawyer filters because when you get a cut, you need to irrigate the wound with water under pressure to clean out dirt & bacteria to avoid infection, that Sawyer syringe is perfect for that.
I carry a bidet so that will likely provide enough pressure. Plus I use an alcohol stove so I’ve got alcohol for disinfection. But the syringe is a great tip Miken!
You should apparently take that syringe anyway, because the Sawyer can get clogged and unless you have something to flush it, you're rather stuffed. It's how you keep the flow rate fast too.
Jeremiah you need to get one of those Sawyer Coupling Rings and a Knoc Bags. The Coupling Ring costs about 3.50. It also works with other types of filters. What the ring does it lets you attach your water bottle directly to the filter. You don’t have to stand over it and direct the water into the bottle anymore. Add the Knoc bag to the other side and you got a gravity feed filtration system.
I'm not sure if this is an update to what is included in the Sawyer Kit (or a difference in amazon vs. Walmart versions of the kit), but mine came with the coupling ring, purchased a couple of years ago from Walmart. I've been surprised to hear people talking about it this way, it is very useful! Strange that it isn't always included...
Huge fan of Silky Saws!!! Fingerless gloves are great. Been in construction my whole life. Used them for years. Thank you for the shoutout Really cool watch brother. Enjoyed the video brother. Can’t wait for our next adventure
Those MODL Infinity Tools are my new favorite thing! I gave them to my family as Christmas stocking stuffers and then bought more for myself! So handy!
Good stuff. I like to use a coupling to attach my water filter to the bottle. I just let it hang and do the work for me while I eat a snack or poop or whatever. Congrats on the new hiker addition in July!
How did I NOT KNOW to use that blue cap and those for that??!?! 5Th year hiking on the AT and today YOU taught this GREAT GRANDMA a GREAT HACK! THANKS JEREMIAH!!!
What really sold me on the GSI coffee mug is how long it keeps your drink hot. I used to just drink my coffee out of the Toaks 550 pot I heated the water in, but titanium gets cold right quick. Even in winter my drink stays hot for an hour at least. I also recommend the GSI French press if you’re really boujee. 😂
👍👍👍 .. an Insulated Cup with a spill-resistant lid is always a bonus. I have inadvertently knocked over my cup of steaming hot drink and the Lid has saved my clothing, the surroundings and myself some pain, in addition to keeping the contents warmer for longer and no scalded lips. To add .. Winter (and other Seasons) .. a Thermos Flask. Leaving home with a hot drink (I just have freshly boiled water .. this gives me more flexibility regarding for what I'm going to use the water) .. a Thermos comes in handy when needed. Already hot / warm water allows for a quicker later boil if so desired and after the pitstop, I refill the flask with something hot before setting out again. SOP 😊.
I do take a sponge and I take fingerless gloves - even have some that have a connected woolen mitten end you can put over to keep your fingers warm when you don't need the fingerless part. And I take sil-nylon tape for my tent which works for other things, and also medical tape for blisters will also fix stuff. Not sure why I need to take a watch, or saw when I don't do woodcraft though.... ;-)
A grayl, you wont miss your bottle and a fixed blade knife like the Mora companion HD I use the Mora Garberg Carbon. Orienteering Compass and learn how to use it
Instead of gear tape I have a roll of sports tape, sticks to skin, use it with gauze pads to make my own bandages, use over hot spots to avoid blisters, and is combustible for starting fires.
.. A small towel put under the canister in your cook pot or cup ,, will prevent the rust ring and also eliminate the rattle that really annoys some hikers ..
I loves me some silky. Did years of treework with a zubat. I love that saw, although the blood sacrifice it requires to bond with it is never enjoyable...
Using the knife on a rock slab made me cringe harder than all the creaky blackboards in school combined 😅 The GSI mug looks cool, but… it’s plastic. Backpackers don’t seem to worry too much about such things, but health concerns me. I won’t put hot food/drinks in plastic anymore. First it was BPA now it’s BPS and BPF. I don’t trust it one bit tbh. I use an aluminum cup, pushed little grooves on the inside of it to mark capacity (the same way people do it to add ridges on fosters pots), and made a cozy for it out of reflectix. Had a neoprene one before that, which looked better but didn’t perform too well. I’ve got a little rubbery lid for it, so I can rehydrate or soak food in it, but I don’t use it much on account of it also being plasticky silicone. Not all silicone is food safe either… I’m ordering a titanium lunchbox to replace my pot. Sealable/water tight so I can even carry out premade food in it. The lid can be a plate/grill, and if you know how to cook you can also use it as an oven. Check out the LOFI stove, Jeremiah. It’s super lightweight, should last a lifetime, and can nestle inside a Ti pot easily. Instead of those big ass saws, you might want to order a chicken tail saw. I got mine yesterday so it’s very new to me, but listen to this… 44 grams! (1,5oz)With the sheath!! (It’s paper) 230cm saw (9inch) I’ve tried it on some wood close by and it mows through both dry and green wood. Not a replacement for the big boy, but I am not taking any other saw with me before this one breaks. Can’t get any lighter than this tbh. It’s even lighter than the famous knifepointgear saw.
Hey Jeremiah, I DM u on messenger about John's upcoming RRG trip. Didn't know if u looked at that anymore, so I thot I'd touch base with u here and let u know 😊
Make sure you carry the syringe that comes with Sawyer filters because when you get a cut, you need to irrigate the wound with water under pressure to clean out dirt & bacteria to avoid infection, that Sawyer syringe is perfect for that.
...or.. just use the saw to eliminate the limb or digit that got in the way ,, no more cuts ....
I never would’ve thought of that

I literally got two of these yesterday from Amazon. One for me, one for a backpacking buddy.

I still haven’t pulled the trigger on the CNOC bag. Lol but I need to.
Great video! Tnanks for including our backpacker mug! Keep it up!
My pleasure! Love your products
Papa Stringer!!! Heard the great news on the podcast today. Congrats bro. You and your wife are going to be great parents.
Thank you so much! Very excited

I'm not a coffee drinker, but wouldn't a DIY reflectix coozie for the pot do that job, for less weight and $$$?
I haven’t used a French press before
@@JeremiahStringer if you're a fan of drinking fresh coffee on the trail, there's no better way!

Good thoughts there
Trail patina 😂 I love it!
I love it!
"Trail Patina". I'm totally stealing that one. :) Good video.
Go for it!

Hello 👋 Jeremiah, thank you for sharing this informative video. Stay safe out there. 😊
Thank you, I will
Measurements are on side of GSi cup for the time being. Seems it is rubbing off.
Yeah, I don’t think it’ll last forever
Heh heh, Hollywood might be knockin' at your door soon if they catch sight of that badass hair you're rockin' in this video. Slick!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Lol thank you

Yooo that Sawyer hack is a great idea! I'm usually squeezing so hard that it becomes difficult to keep the cap centered over the bottle.
...or .. get a quality pump filter that attaches directly to a good Nalgene water bottle ....problem solved ..
@@rockytopwrangler2069 Sure, problem solved. Now to address the problem of all that unnecessary weight.
Thank you
Lots of great gear choices! Great video!
Glad you like them!
I LOVE fingerless gloves.
They are awesome!
Ice fishing mittens. The best of fingerless gloves and warmth for your fingertips.
Oh yes!

The best!

Lol sorry about the knife
A beer koozie…for cold drinks in summer.
Oh yeah!
“Trail patina” - that’s good!
Thank you, lol
I thought I have read that the Sawyers should not be allowed to freeze. I see snow on the ground. What's up? Nice vid.
Keep the Sawyer in your jacket’s chest pocket until you need it. Snow might be left over and temps might be in the mid-30s or above.
As long as you keep the filter close to your body, it will be fine
That’s so weird. I literally just asked Jason what his gloves were last week. Now you’re featuring his gloves.
That’s right lol
Sims makes good stuff. Avid fly fisherman here. Cool video.
Love Sims products, although I’ve only used their gloves lol

Same to you!
My watch also has day/date or else I'll forget when camping.
That makes sense
Best way to help the environment is not to buy a new watch and either use the phone you’re already carrying or hit a resale shop.
VAER actually has a used shop you can check out in order to do exactly what you said. Appreciate you watching, Andrew 😃 Hope all is well
