This video shows how I made the wooden band saw I designed. It's a 12" model, and that means the wheels are 12" in diameter. The max resaw capacity is 7-1/4". It uses an 80" blade. The motor I used is a 1 hp induction motor that runs at 1725 rpm. The pulley ratio is 2:1 with the lower wheel running at half the motor speed. The unique feature is the quick release tensioner. With a simple flip of a lever it releases the tension on the blade.
John, it's truly such a pleasure to see your mind at work. Thank you for this video and all the many videos you've produced over the years. You're creativity and skill are very inspiring. Well done my friend.
Well I watch the hole video and you talk explaining what you keep on working but if the video talk about the measures I will see it again but the answer that I read said that the video had the measures. John i will like to buying the plans for the band saw . I’m very sorry but when i check the notes i wrote i see i start reading before sending the question and i find out that i start talking about one thing and then switch to another thing. But saying again i just want to do it’s buying the plans. Thanks you again.
Will you be releasing plans for this bandsaw..? It'd be great to see them in Imperial, and in Metric for those of us across, well, all the oceans.. ;) I envision the space taken up by my current POS bandsaw being filled with a far better unit, in the subtle and natural tones of 'plywood'.. cheers for the wonderful and detailed video.. as usual :)
So many signature John Heisz moves here-- this is like an I Build It Essentials video that shows a whole lot of little bits of a lot of what you do. It would be really awesome to see a full, long-form three-part series of how you make these videos: I - Conception, II - Filming & Building, III- Editing. This video is a perfect model for what videos on TH-cam could be. I'm not sure if people realize the full scope of what goes into all of this. So cool, and thanks for all that goes into this
What's even more amazing is that he used his self built table saw. It's really cool to see him using the tool he built, many TH-camrs throw away stuff they build and use commercial ones.
Holy crap!!! This was an incredibly detailed build John. I bet almost no one has a handle on the amount of time you took to make this project come to life. Just awesome!
Very nice build. Very talented. You make me nervous being so close to the blade, my father was confident like you till I watched him lose a finger from a piece of 1/4" plywood. Definitely have to respect the saw.
Good old American ingenuity. John, you really do need to get some more tools, lol but seriously, I see so many great ideas for my little woodshop but don’t think I’ll ever have the time to do them all. You really are living the woodworkers dream.🙏
4:39 you know what I like most about this.....seeing the kind of wonky cut lines that I achieve. So reassuring to see that my work resembles the experts' more than I realise!
I used to work for DoAll industrial saws and I have to say you done a hellava job. I rebuilt quite a few machines but I don't believe I would have considered taking on the project. Good job!
I love how you just get right in to the explaination and skip the introduction. We read the title, we already know what the video is about. It's quite refreshing to see something different compared to 99% of all other channels.
It’s fantastic job. Smart and effective. Walking in the park today and seeing fallen oaks I was dreaming about such tool to save oak’s wood for future. Thanks a lot!
Unlike other videos, yours are the best. Going thru each step and explaining each procedure and why you are doing what and why..my hats off to you sir for an amazing band saw build.
From the very first thought of making this to clicking public on the video must of been one heck of alot of time. Thanks for sharing this with us John, great job as always.
Bonjour de FRANCE , Superbe scie a ruban un travail de professionnel Merci de nous partager votre travail du bois . Je vous regarde régulièrement . Vidéo parfaite on loupe rien de la réalisation de la machine . BONNE AVENTURE 🙂🙂🙂👴👍👍💪💪💪👏👏👏🌞🌞🌞
Great build John. Your ingenuity has inspired me to build as many of my own tools as I can. So far I have built my own table saw as well as several jigs and clamping fixtures. Keep up the great work!
Interesting build. My grandfather was an avid woodworker and out of economic necessity, built an 18 inch wooden band saw in the 1950's. Both my father and I used it for many years, until I finally disassembled it the 90's in favor of a more rigid cast iron machine.
Incredible. I wish I could do a Vulcan Mind Meld on you just to see what’s going on inside your head. I’m constantly amazed at how you can “see” these things in your head and turn them into tangible useful tools. It’s a terribly humbling experience to watch you work….but immensely enjoyable, thank you.
waiting eagerly to buy the plans and build this saw. Also will finally start building your badass clamps. thank you for your wonderful help thats helped me get better in the craft!
Great filming/editing and the commentary is fantastic John! I really enjoy the build and the process to learn from the end product and how you adjust/adapt it to make it better. Very rewarding/entertaining/educative stuff. Will get a set of plans to ensure more content like this! Cheers from Spain
Wow, best video on this channel in a long long time. I will probably watch this two or three more times today and maybe even again tomorrow! Great content!!!!
In my mind, this is just incredible! Your skills are far beyond what I could ever hope because you have so much experience in your life as a craftsman, something I haven't had the opportunity to gain in my line of work. Thank you for all the content you produce John, you're a legend.
Very nice. I'm trying to figure out how to build a cordless one that can be put on my workbench. Won't be that powerful but for a hobby saw, it awesome.
Your work is always great. The clarity and accuracy fascinates. This certainly deserves imitation, for which I thank you very much. The finished machine is well thought out and functional. There is a lot of work behind this, which deserves respect. Good luck!
Nicely done John. As a builder of your box-joint jig, I can say you've outdone yourself on this one. It's a bit of a disappointment that you won't be making plans for it. I built Matthias's big saw and, though very capable, I find it to be bulkier than I really need. If you change your mind, I'll be building this.
Excellent job John, you should be proud. You could do with some sort of Electrical interlock and brake on the quick release handle. You don't seem to have visitors, but God forbid anyone would release tension on that blade while it was running. Am electro-magnet which energises when the machine is on and a microswitch to disable it from starting when the handle is not in place. Anyway, this is just me thinking out load.
I've been watching your videos for a while now and this build shows a lot of your different tricks and techniques that to me are like a staple of your work, i really appriciate all the engineering and details that you put in both your projects and your videos, keep up the great work
John, you really shine on this audio/video and build. So sweet are those carefully constructed, adjustable and fixed, components that make a band saw a BAND SAW. All amazingly simplified for folks like myself to want to believe I could make one also. Top flight job all the way around. I know you gotta be beside yourself with internal joy that your design functions like a dream machine.
Great editing balance in your videos between what you chose to include and omit, just enough to allow us follow the build process. Interested in hearing the estimated total build time and what the estimated cost of materials. I get that the cost of doing the project is as they say, "priceless".
Hey John, well done my friend. That Bandsaw looks amazing. One of these days, I'm gonna have to try and build one myself.. it's inspirational seeing something like a bandsaw, made from wood. Great work. And great video as well. Take care.
What a fantastic wooden working fantastic tool and machines sir u r god this wooden work can I try this wooden work I am your stoodent ok and u r so nice sir fabulous
Many thanks for the effort it took in every phase of this project And there is a ton of work here.. Many thanks for the effort it takes to make the video allowing you to share the project with us. Hope to see it in action in future videos. A man who knows what he's doing, makes it look EZ. A++
I am usually impressed with your work John, but this one seems to be at the top of your powers, I'm also impressed with the level of your accuracy when making individual parts, the cleanliness of each process, and your calm and patient approach to this project you have had, although I bet there is the odd rant on the cutting room floor.
I've always found it amusing how people build their own tools, starting from a few parts and hand tools. Progress always starts really slowly, and just gets faster exponentially as they get more parts.
This video is a three-fer, excellent build, great camera work and editing. I have an old 14" yellow and green, Montgomery Ward band saw. It has a good motor, everything else is hobbyist grade though it looks dang near industrial. Precision is not in the definition. Your saw is one I'd trade for. Parts for mine are unavailable, obsolete unit. I will have to consider replacing parts by following your example, build them.
I'm always amazed at the quality and accuracy you are able to achieve. it makes the simple materials you often use look great. thanks for the awesome video!

Twice motor speed. Are you sure it's not 50% of motor speed? Other wise that blade is motoring along at 5400 ft/min
@@mpetersen6 Thanks :)

Yeah I always appreciate his nail gun sounds he trims to the same spacing.
What's even more amazing is that he used his self built table saw. It's really cool to see him using the tool he built, many TH-camrs throw away stuff they build and use commercial ones.
I don't think I would ever have the patience to build one myself, but it sure is fun to watch!
I would not have skill haha

This deserves 10 million views at least! Thank you.
Great build John. Seems to have plenty of power ,accuracy. and it looks great too. Master craftsmanship as always👍👍
Thanks, much appreciated!
Phenomenal work, as usual. That logo looks so good on there. It is just the right size.
You are an amazing woodworker my friend
My hat off to you sir
My mind cannot even begin to comprehend this level of skill, this is beyond incredible. Basic woodworking must bore you to death.
I used to work for DoAll industrial saws and I have to say you done a hellava job. I rebuilt quite a few machines but I don't believe I would have considered taking on the project. Good job!
This is a lot more then just woodworking. Well done.
I love how you just get right in to the explaination and skip the introduction. We read the title, we already know what the video is about. It's quite refreshing to see something different compared to 99% of all other channels.
JOHN! This is BRILLIANT! The design, construction techniques and video are all SUPERB! THANK YOU!
It’s fantastic job. Smart and effective. Walking in the park today and seeing fallen oaks I was dreaming about such tool to save oak’s wood for future. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for putting all the effort into making this full video.

Amazing! You are a journeyman creator in woodworking, machines and video production.
waiting eagerly to buy the plans and build this saw. Also will finally start building your badass clamps. thank you for your wonderful help thats helped me get better in the craft!
Your skills and finesse continue to increase at a rapid pace.
I'm sure I will never build one, but I watched and enjoyed every minute! Nice work John! Thanks for making the video.
You’re a mad scientist! This is so cool
The whole project came out awesome. The logo is a nice touch.
I doubt the inventor of plywood could have predicted its many applications would include such elegant assemblies as this bandsaw.
Great filming/editing and the commentary is fantastic John! I really enjoy the build and the process to learn from the end product and how you adjust/adapt it to make it better. Very rewarding/entertaining/educative stuff. Will get a set of plans to ensure more content like this! Cheers from Spain
I learned so much watching this video - mostly that I should buy a bandsaw so I can have one in the next 45 years.
John, your bandsaw looks great and runs great as well. Your logo in the cover looks sharp.
Man what a gorgeous saw. I usually don't love the all wood look on most things, but with the logo burnt on it, it looks so good.
Absolutely beautiful, John. It's not just a band saw, it's a functional work of art.
I love hard work!
I can sit and watch it for hours :)
John, it’s a complete work of art. Best woodworking build videos on TH-cam. You’re a bloody genius.
Awesome video! This represents a ton of work, both in shop time as well as video production. I hope it gets you a ton of views and money. Thank you!
Görmüş olduğumuz kadar kolay olsa bu işler keşke.testereyi yapmak için milyonluk ekipman lazım
Wow, best video on this channel in a long long time. I will probably watch this two or three more times today and maybe even again tomorrow! Great content!!!!
A true mad lad you are 😁 Fantastic video as usual! Thanks!
You make great and very beautiful tools, thank you for sharing.
That wooden spring idea is brilliant, John!

Great design..great build and clear and instructive video. Great job
As with all of your projects John, VERY WELL DONE and thought out! !! !!!
Amazing build, you make it look effortless.
Very nice.
I'm trying to figure out how to build a cordless one that can be put on my workbench. Won't be that powerful but for a hobby saw, it awesome.
Impressive, love all your builds , big and small and all the rants etc !....keep on keepin' on !
Your work is always great. The clarity and accuracy fascinates. This certainly deserves imitation, for which I thank you very much. The finished machine is well thought out and functional. There is a lot of work behind this, which deserves respect. Good luck!
I love your videos, been following a long time, 10 years I think. Great job, thanks for sharing!
I've been coming back to this video, hoping to find plans were made available. Didn't realise John wont be making them available. Bummer!!
You really hit the sweet spot of an engineers mind with an artistic eye, making really cleverly designed things that always looks great.
Excellent job John, you should be proud. You could do with some sort of Electrical interlock and brake on the quick release handle. Am electro-magnet which energises when the machine is on and a microswitch to disable it from starting when the handle is not in place. Anyway, this is just me thinking out load.
This guy continues to earn my respect
That resaw was impressive! Looks really slick too
excellent job as usual john! thankyou for showing your craftsmanship!
This is an amazing video and build. I wish I was this talented and creative. Love the video!

very impressive work yet again Mr Heisz
Excelent work John, great video as usual, thank you for sharing.
Nice bandsaw build. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
You are really a master at what you do.
Wow that is a really nice looking workbench (and a great band saw project too!). I like the way you milled out the blade drive wheels.
Your work very useful and creative, have a nice new week.
Amazing John. Love the detail and the design. You’re a very clever man.
Amazing work John! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks :)
Very nice John, I like the vertical cutting capacity.
Great editing balance in your videos between what you chose to include and omit, just enough to allow us follow the build process. Interested in hearing the estimated total build time and what the estimated cost of materials. I get that the cost of doing the project is as they say, "priceless".
The best designed home made band saw I’ve seen. Great work. I’m gonna remember to get your plans!
Hey John, well done my friend. That Bandsaw looks amazing. One of these days, I'm gonna have to try and build one myself.. it's inspirational seeing something like a bandsaw, made from wood. Great work. And great video as well. Take care.

Urgent plans!
You are a true genius!
I've always found it amusing how people build their own tools, starting from a few parts and hand tools. Progress always starts really slowly, and just gets faster exponentially as they get more parts.
Good work, John. Your solutions are very fine .👍👍👍🐻
That is a really nice bandsaw, really thought out well
Nice work on the band saw John! Thank you for sharing the video with us!💖👍😎JP
Very beautifully done.
NICE JOB JOHN. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO.
Ваше творчество восхищает, как всегда. Успехов Вам и отличного здоровья!
You make it look so easy. When are you going to make the all wood radial saw 12"
Big Fan
