Reading Terminal (pronounced Red-ing) can definitely be overwhelming in the amount of choices! Love park used to have a really pretty fountain in front of the Love sign. There was a lot of controversy about the changes to the park that removed the fountain.

Yes the Love statue there has a history of being a symbol of the hippie, anti War protests. Modern art, in terms of official city art, was still new and controversial back then. The hippie movement was new.
Loved this video. Sorry that you had to freeze. That was the coldest week. I live between Philly and the Amish. You two are so fun. Had to chuckle when Lia was asked, you talk different, do you use different money. What a hoot. Luv ya'll.

I used to eat lunch at Dilworth Park (outside City Hall) for years, as well as in LOVE Park. I just moved from Philly to Chicago, and I’ll miss all the fabulous parks downtown. They don’t look great in the winter, but it’s a lot of fun when it warms up. Glad you checked out Reading Terminal! Also, you’re right that we’re not friendly like Southerners, lol. I am enjoying this series because I grew up near Philly. I am wondering if you might not see the town at it's most jumping because of the covid surge. Also it's kind of a weekend place. It has large suburbs there and people drive in from the suburbs to go out. So it's most jumping on a weekend night. You all might be asleep by that time of the night.
Yes, between COVID and cold weather things have definitely been slow downtown. Though on some warmer days a TON of people are out and about especially on weekends.
I loved this video. I live in NJ, just a little over an hour from Philly, but I don't go in very often. And when I do, it's just to go to the museums. This video has made me want to walk around some of those really nice areas that you were in. And that sandwich croissant you were eating, Lia, looked like something I will have to try (:
Sadly the pandemic has taken a real toll on the center city area. Lots of empty store fronts these days after two years of low foot traffic. Hope it can recover.
Lia just remember US coins and money is basically metric. So you have a penny, nickel, dime, quarter. Yes there are dollar coins and half dollar ones but not used much. So three quarters is .75 cents. Seven dimes and one nickel is .75 cents. Very straight forward any combination would get you to .75 cents. With three quarters being the easiest.
The UK has also had metric coinage since the 1970s, so I'm not sure what the difficulty was. They do use a 20 pence coin (20 hundredths of a pound) instead of a quarter and their 50 pence coin is actually used in circulation, so she might have just been accustomed to using different combinations of coins.
Oooo, Reading Terminal. Makes me wanna go back to Philly. So many great meals and shows! I grew up about 40 minutes away in NJ. Thanks for the breakfast tour! 🙂
3:55 That's the Starbucks in the building my office is located in, but OMG you literally walked past Philly's best coffee house, Elixr on Walnut Street, oh well, next time 😊 Anyhow, the sad fact is Covid really hit the restaurant/service industry here in Philly, that's why you see so many places closed or with limited hours. Love this! Hadn't seen your videos in my recs for so long and realized I wasn't subscribed. But very cool to see you in Philly. Hope you enjoyed your time here. Looking forward to seeing the rest.
Philadelphia in some ways looks like my old hometown of NYC. The architecture is almost the same as well as its buses and subway trains but New York City ended it last trolley line, the Queensborough Bridge line from Long Island City to 59th Street 2nd Ave trolley terminal. Long Island City is the neighborhood across the East River right next to the end of the bridge.
12:49 This happened to me in Japan at a convenience store. We were going home soon so I was trying to get rid of my coins (they use a lot of coins there). I was getting pretty good with the coins but the cashier saw me counting my handful and just gestured for me to dump them out on the counter where he just quickly counted them out. That was fine I guess but A. I wanted to do it myself and B he took the larger coins and I was trying to get rid of the smaller ones.
I live in Philly and trust me the summer time is flooded with tourist lol last time I went to the terminal i could barley get around it was so crowded I ended up not getting food from none of the stores in there. Philadelphians aren’t rude just straight forward which can come off as rude lol..my gf moved here from Ohio and thinks everyone is rude 😂 but it’s normal to me. She also thinks the buildings look really old but that’s bc they are ..this is a city that carry a lot of history
In the heyday of the railroads, Commodore Vanderbilt had a virtual monopoly on them and became the richest person in America. With so much money to spend, he wanted to leave his mark by building lavish rail stations in most of America's big cities. Even by today's standards, these stations are still considered artistic treasures. Sadly though, money to maintain the stations is becoming harder to come by and many are falling into disrepair.
No scrapple for breakfast?!?!?! I tried your black pudding and other odd foods when I was in Wolverhampton. I even forced myself to eat your bacon. TRY the scrapple. It’s a must!
Wow, that building where you got breakfast had so many different places in there you could eat at a new place each day. It's nice that it was indoors too because it was so cold outside. I remember seeing Sorted Food do some videos before of an outside market in London that had all sorts of food and fresh things to buy like veggies and cheese etc. If that is open in the summer that would be a cool video on the other channel to show all the cool stuff over there.
Great video, mates. Glad you enjoyed yourselves and you visited the best food destination in Philadelphia - Reading Terminal Market. Loved seeing your reaction to the place. It's definitely overwhelming to us locals, too. But a true gem for tourists and locals alike in Philly! You could spend all day in there. Cheers!
Philly is a great city to visit. Good food . Readington market is a good start . Make sure to get roast pork sandwich in addition to a cheesesteak. If you come across a pork roll, egg and cheese sandwich please try it for breakfast. Art museum is a must visit
Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry I missed seeing you guys. My job is 2 blocks down from the Reading Terminal Market. Oh and to answer your question, it is Reading (like redding). :) I can't wait to see more of your videos in Philly. :D ♥
Glad to hear that you had a good first morning there. 👍 That’s kind of disappointing that you weren’t able to sit inside the Starbucks, but at least the tea was good; I also love the English breakfast tea. terminal Market sounded really nice, I would’ve had a hard time deciding what to eat too though; it sounded like it had a lot of options. ☺️👏👍❤️
the Reading terminal market is a must see place to go. it will temp you to try everything but you cant. the different booths sell hot food like gumbo and crab and steak and veggie selections cheeses from local farmers, alcohol, candles made by the local Amish communitys, fruits candy herbs and spices asian favorites sweets and baked bread homemade ice cream ground coffee teas and vitamins. the crowds are serious during lunch and early afternoons so be patient.
I'm SO glad you went to Reading (Pronounced Redding) Terminal Market - That's where the trains from Reading PA came into Philadelphia. Other trains go to the 32nd Street Train Station (a beautiful building) or the Suburban Station (across the street from the Courthouse near the LOVE statue) I've only seen a few Philly vlogs so I'm hoping you made it to South Street. If not, you must go back in warmer weather after COVID restrictions are lifted. I loved seeing you in my old stomping grounds!
Joel doesn’t like modern art, so I recommend you visit the Barnes Foundation on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The Barnes Foundation has one of the world’s best collections of impressionist art, including 181 paintings by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, 69 by Paul Cezanne, 59 by Henri Matisse, 46 by Pablo Picasso, 21 by Chaim Soutine, 18 by Henri Rousseau, 16 by Amedeo Modigliani, 11 by Edgar Degas, 11 by Giorgio de Chirico, 7 by Vincent van Gogh, and 6 by Georges Seurat. Other European and American masters in the collection include Peter Paul Rubens, Titian, Paul Gaugin, El Greco, Francisco Goya, Edouard Manet, Jean Hugo, Claude Monet, Maurice Utrillo, William Glackens, Charles Demuth, Roger de La Fresnaye, Horace Pippin, Jules Pascin and Maurice Prendergast. The Barnes Foundation also holds a variety of African artworks; ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art; Native American works, American and European furniture, decorative arts and metalwork. The museum also holds several significant works by cubist sculptor Jacques Lipchitz. If you want to hear the world’s largest functioning pipe organ, visit Macy’s Department Store at 13th and Juniper Streets in Center City, just east of City Hall. It’s the Wanamaker organ, formerly Wanamaker’s Department Store, and it has 28,750 pipes in 464 ranks. It’s played in recital, twice every business day, Monday through Saturday, the same as it has been since it was first publicly heard on June 22, 1911. This is a video of the Wanamaker organ playing Finlandia by Jean Sibelius, transcribed and played by head organist Peter Richard Conte. th-cam.com/video/dzLsx35UTI8/w-d-xo.html I also recommend you try Philly food like cheesesteaks, hoagies (Wawa, the local convenience store makes great hoagies), soft pretzels with mustard, and Tastykake. Tastykake has been in Philly since 1914 and is best known for their pies, cupcakes, mini-donuts and krimpets, especially their butterscotch frosted and coffee cake. Enjoy Philly, it's a wonderful city!
The creator of the Love Sculpture was Robert Indiana (1928-2018). He was born and raised in my hometown, New Castle, Indiana. I've always thought it so simple, but, hey, it made him a household name...
Wanted to hit the like button 10 times! Phila. is my home town and I haven’t been there in years so this was a big treat for me. Thinking of all my cousins who live there and the great food! Seeing your impressions is a delight!
Robert Indiana is the artist that created the Love sculpture. There's a copy of one in mid-town Manhattan, NYC. The Art Museum in Indianapolis, Indiana also has one.
As a Philadelphian, I found this charming honestly. Very cute. And as I will be visiting London, I know I'll just be as annoying of a tourtist as well haha.

Cheers!
Joel and lia are so cool!! I wanna go to
Starbucks with them!! Greetings from New Jersey!!! Love u guys
Hey, you are in my home state. Welcome to the weather of Pennsylvania
Philly is a great city to visit. Good food . Readington market is a good start . Make sure to get roast pork sandwich in addition to a cheesesteak. If you come across a pork roll, egg and cheese sandwich please try it for breakfast. Art museum is a must visit
You do understand they filmed this last month and have been back home for some time? Too late for suggestions or recommendations for their trip.
That was hilarious with Lia eating the sandwich..
You two are such Foodies!!!!! Love your adventures! Thanks for bringing us along! 🤗
Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry I missed seeing you guys. My job is 2 blocks down from the Reading Terminal Market. Oh and to answer your question, it is Reading (like redding). :) I can't wait to see more of your videos in Philly. :D ♥
Awesome video! Come back in the summer, there are way more activities to do. And if you want to take a dip, the Jersey Shore is only an hour away.
😂😂🤣y’all had me rofl at the get go of the vlog with the “Jaywalking incident” 😂
✌️💛🙏
Sooo happy to see you beautiful, cool kids in my beautiful, cool city!
Tall building is Philadelphia City Hall, once the tallest in the world before the Woolworth Building in New York (1911)
Great video guys and I've always said it 😀. So glad you enjoyed the trip. Take care stay safe 💕
You guys should have gone to Independence Hall in Old City. So much history there
Joel doesn’t like modern art, so I recommend you visit the Barnes Foundation on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
This is a video of the Wanamaker organ playing Finlandia by Jean Sibelius, transcribed and played by head organist Peter Richard Conte. th-cam.com/video/dzLsx35UTI8/w-d-xo.html
I also recommend you try Philly food like cheesesteaks, hoagies (Wawa, the local convenience store makes great hoagies), soft pretzels with mustard, and Tastykake.
How hilarious you must have looked strolling across the street chatting and vlogging, carrying starbucks, in front of cars waiting at the light- 😆❤.
If you're going to spend some time in town, check out the Old City district, and also head over to South Street.
Robert Indiana is the artist that created the Love sculpture. There's a copy of one in mid-town Manhattan, NYC. The Art Museum in Indianapolis, Indiana also has one.
love this!
Welcome to Philly. Glad to have had you here. Lots of recommendations, but I think I clocked you saying this trip was in January…
Oh, yay! Welcome! Will you be visiting other parts of South East PA? Hope you enjoy your stay :))))) Love from Bucks County.
Great video, next time you are here I can show you some of our hidden Gems, parks and local spots 🙂
As a Philadelphian, I found this charming honestly. Very cute. And as I will be visiting London, I know I'll just be as annoying of a tourtist as well haha.
