    Beautiful Pioneer. All vintage saws are so nostalgic and packed with cool history plus their gorgeous machines.

    This was my first chainsaw.
    Bought it used and used it for many years. Had a great sound, low and throaty. Also great torque, never stalled out in the work. Hard on gas though, like all the old saws.
    Will develop large muscles in your pulling arm 💪
    Unfortunately I lost it in a shop fire several years ago.
    Have fun with it!

      That's awesome! I can't wait to get it running and hear that great sound. I'm sorry you ended up losing the saw though, I'll definitely have to keep you in mind when restoring this one! Thank you for the comment!

    Sweet video mate. I have a friend's 400a on my bench at the moment. It was his grandfather's saw so I'm hoping to clean it up and get it going for him.

    Great to see this interest in the history of this economy changing technology.
    I am able to confirm that the Pioneer saw was developed in Vancouver B. C.
    For the rain forests of western Canada.
    The owner/ designer I believe was Lol Killam. Only reason I know this is because my good buddy Tom in Hi school was his nephew. Interesting ..the Killam Prise

    I'm a fan of the pioneer brand. I've got an early model Pioneer Farmsaw FM-80 (66cc) and love running that thing. Very aggressive 2 stroke growl compared to the tone of my Stihl 251c Woodboss. Great video. Cool saw!

    I used one of these for awhile. Mine had a fuel pump button that made fuel pop n a glass bulb on top to start. Called it the coffee perk saw.

    Great video! Watched your other saw videos also. Also so you know the early pioneer saws were made in Vancouver Canada, and on that note another cool chainsaw brand was PM who also made saws in Vancouver

    My Grandpa had one of those, but he ended up getting rid of it a switched over to Jonsared.

    • @MidwestGarage
      @MidwestGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh no way? That's awesome! Jonsered is a very good saw, that's actually what I run as my primary. I don't blame him for getting rid of this thing though. It's pretty old and heavy.

    Pioneer chainsaws were originally manufactured by Industrial Engineering Limited in Burnaby BC. My dad's cousin Ray Pitre owned IEL Pioneer in the 1940s and 50s. He sold out to OMC in 1956.

    The pioneer 400 changed name to NU17 ( brown) when they use magnesium instead of aluminum
    Later models, 450 (green) was almost similar as NU 17 but lighter weight.

    Good to see a Pioneer avoid the scrap yard!
    From information I know and also found on Acresinternet.com Pioneer was first manufactured by Industrial Engineering Limited (I.E.L) from Vancover in the 1940's to the mid 1950's under the name I.E.L Pioneer. Close to the time the 400 came out Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC) purchased the company for production of chainsaws, guide bars, and chains. In June 16th, 1977 OMC wanted to close Pioneer and concentrate on other products. Employees formed the Pioneer Chain Saw Corporation on May 17th, 1978 and resumed production to 1982 or 1984 when Electrolux purchased the company, and combined Partner with Pioneer. I would look into Acresinternet.com for info on companies, chainsaws, and chain.
    I also have a parts IPL and service information if your interested in needing it for a restoration.
    Thank you and keep up the good work

      @MidwestGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the information! I do a lot of digging on Acres Internet, that is a great website. If you could share the parts IPL and service info that would be amazing, I do plan on doing a full restoration to this thing! Thank you again for the good information!

    You misspoke yourself. After Elux bought the Swedish saw companies they came over and started buying American saw companies. Which at the time were pro quality saws.
