Benchmade Bugout - The Ultimate Flex?

  • I am probably the last reviewer to cover the Benchmade Bugouts. I take a look at a couple of the newer variants in both standard size and mini. Did I find the scales had too much flex as some others had complained about. Do I think these knives are a must for the user or collector? I take a look at the Crater Blue variant in full size with coated FDE blade and the uber cool white and black mini which gets its styling cues from a Stormtrooper...

Nice review as always. Watching your review has me pondering the Bugout. Finally picked up a Griptilian. As a lefty I appreciate that BM has a design that is left hand friendly!

Go enjoy your benchies as they are great knives lightweight made.
I got one with blue grivory scales and another with aluminum scales.
    Both excellent without bending problems.
The bugout is a tool &toy - not made for batoning or fighting bears - but s30v or m390 blades are excellent and the whole concept works pretty fine.
    Nice review, nice buggies!

Absolutely love the bug out ,, have two one for work standard blue 30v very easy to touch up ,, second the 90v worksharp Addition light duty’s around the house little harder to keep on top of but holds longer than the 30v. Just ordered the mini orange for weekend out and about Carry.

These look like nice little knives, I’d love one of these for lighter bushcraft tasks, cutting off mushrooms, making feather sticks ect.
    Nice review 👍🏻

such great knives. The Benchmade 940 Osborne is one of the best knives of all time, but everything they make is amazing.

I've had the standard blue with satin finish one for years. Love it for hiking.
Wonderful knife, so easy to carry and the size and geometry is perfect for most regupar tasks especially food prep (cutting onions for example).
The only reason i'd consider the mini is because it would fit nicely into the coin/pocket watch pocket.
I actually love it so much i had to replace it when i lost it due to forgetting it was in my bag when going on a flight 😢

I will say the name does not suggest it's best function. It is light but not a knife that is good for bushcraft type stuff or carving.
It is a thin slicey full flat grind, so wood carving or spliting is limited.

I've had a bugout for a few years now, absolutely love the slimness and the lightweight, flex? Yeah, a little bit it is what it is, right? It's a very lightweight pocket folder. If I want to baton etc I'm going to take a hefty ol' fixed blade. For a truly feather lightweight that slips in your pocket and you'd hardly notice and all the standard cliches etc etc it takes some beating.
My only complaint is it barely fits in the big fat old ham hocks I have as hands. Still love it though!

Qustion: is a "button lock" actually a "gravity knife" ? PS: I have the Bugout and it is totally smooth after it is been worked in and it has washers instead of bearings 👍

I own a few Benchmade fixed blades, and I really like a lot of their products, but I've never had a Benchmade folder. I imagine the Bugout is a decent knife, as it's fairly popular, but I have two vintage Gerber Harsey AirFrame folding knives, so I'm covered in that department. I suppose the Bugout, especially the mini, is substantially lighter than my Gerbers, though.

    Benchmade and HH taxes!
I absolutely love Benchmade, I have lots and have used them for ages but their prices on bugouts are getting ridiculous, I feel there's much much better value knives on the market now and your just paying for the name.

What use are they when they are illegal to have on you in a public place? The blade locks open so not classed as a folding knife & blade is over 3 inches, or am I missing something

No need for wrist action.. the washer is the problem they didn't remove the burr .
I'm using a very fine stone to flatten the washers .
    What quantity 😅
The steel has poor heat treatment with mediocre edge retention, usually uneven grind .
Springs are breaking sometimes very easily.
The place between the liners and scales is hard to clean if you use it for cooking.
    Owerpriced .
Blade is very thick behind the edge, an £9 opinel is cutting better.
An ganzo is around £30 and is not far behind benchmade.
Please use it at least 3 months before a review and don't be afraid to use a T 10 for the pivot .
    Ideal for law enforcement 😅
Maybe for flipping on the sofa .
You need to have a look at cold steel .

@@thatgearguy please use one for at least 3 months at home / work / outdoors .. cooking, open boxes, start a fire etc ..
For a few extra grams and half the price.. cold steel air lite is having g10 scales and tria add look looking as close to a fixed blade as possible, easier to clean and maintain and more recently if you are in the middle of nowhere hiking.

I will say this on any platform with a comment section. At the bugout price there is no place for plastic. It is 100% the biggest weakness on the knife. This is an edc for office workers in the NY financial district. It’s a paper cutter.

My dear friends inthe UK these are being couterfeited in China by the Tens of thousands you can get the fakes for around $30 U.S. the fakes are good quality but some unscrupulous seller are selling for full price

Benchmade are seriously overpriced now. Not to upset the fanboys , i have a freek in M4 ( superfreek ) and a bugout. These days the fit and finish on knives by Kizer or Acta Non Verba ( ANV ) are just as good , blade steels im most cases better , for half the price. Even spyderco offer better value for money , yes the bugout is a great lightweight edc , but with the new Benchmade knives ( taggedout, shootout) i feel like you are paying mostly for the name on the knife. Benchmade

It is definitely a competitive market. In all markets there will be premium brand names and the customer base that want them. Just as there will be budget and mid range options.

really dont see the point of benchmade knives, way too expensive for what they are and only seem to be cognitivly defended by people who believe more expensive is best,99 percent of users will only ever open boxes or slice papr with them
