Folks that have no experience with street life quite literally live in a different world and fail to realize that a story like this song isn’t an admission of premeditated murder because someone snitched (although he DOES complain about snitches), but rather an illustration of the fact that they are, from sun up to sun down, under an immense amount of pressure and stress from having to constantly worry that those you call your family and friends may act right, as a front, but are actually plotting on you, and that you may find yourself in a position where you have to get the drop on them before they can kill you first. It’s a constant worry that some people legitimately have to endure, and it can keep you on edge and very susceptible to HUGE, but honest mistakes, such as mistakenly firing on someone that came up on you abruptly, but with no ill intentions. "Tryna knock me off my grind" could be him saying that although he is innocent in terms of self-defense, haters are still trying to put him behind bars without the whole story. I get it though, with his gang affiliation, there is a lot of paranoia that probably surrounds him and envelopes his psyche. Having something on your mind doesn’t mean you seek to execute a plan, to me it’s very subjective. Melly was raised in an urban area, homicides being rampant and survival thoughts being a regular thing that could’ve also been what he meant, i.e thinking about people who passed away or that he may get murdered.
Also in slang a “murder” does not only mean a homicide it can also mean being performant in bed or simply being ready for anything no matter what or who comes at you.
