THANKYOU Karen . These are the only lessons I can get. My life circumstances make it impossible to afford them! Your hints and tips are everything. I memorise them when painting. Your service, generosity and years of experience are greatly received, giving all a chance to grow artistically .

Thank you for another wonderful demonstration, Ms Margulis. Aside from the physical painting technique, it's great to hear your thought process in the way you envision, plan and execute a painting.
BTW.....the camera work here, much like the painting, was fantastic!

Hi Karen. Thanks for uploading yet another terrific lesson! Your handling of the pastels is amazing to me. I am getting back into pastels after working with them some 40 years ago. Back then, I had very limited instruction. Now, I am learning so much from you!! But whenever I try applying a light color over a dark, it just mixes together and I get a muddy shade. Must be the paper I'm using, which is not high grade pastel paper like U-Art.

I'm a subscriber! You got me, even though I paint acrylics, I'm learning a few things about color and composition, my mother use to do pastels, once she did a 8x8 of Noahs ark and someone threw it away, we never did find out who, she quit after that. I would have sued. (That's 8x8 feet)

I am impressed with your pastel paintings and the usefulness of your videos. Although I have experience with graphite drawing, I want to try my hand with color and have been considering using soft pastels. However, I am concerned about the pastel dust and mess because I do not have a studio or isolated area in my apartment. I also have a very inquisitive cat. Thus I thought that maybe I should try pastel pencils (Faber-Castell PITT) or even colored pencils (Faber-Castell Polychromes). What is your opinion on starting with pastel pencils or colored pencils rather than soft pastels? Also, do you think it is better to go with pastel pencils or colored pencils? Thanks for any information you could provide to me.

" I'm going to put a little yellow up in the sky. I'm not going to keep the sky yellow but I'll just put a little bit up there."
    This is a mystery.
I don't understand the rationale for putting yellow in the sky at all ever.
You say that you leave a bit of the yellow showing through the sky color to create interest, but why yellow??
Because it echoes other yellows found elsewhere in the scene?
I suppose that since you establish your palette before hand, there are only a few possible choices for the sky undercolor and the yellow has the same value as the sky.
As I'm writing this, I'm helping myself understand what I didn't understand when I started !!
In your reference photo ,the line of vegetation runs from lower left to upper right. But in your piece, it seems to change direction.
Did that just happen by chance?
You paint landscapes and I see the process that takes you from the blank page to a developed image.
Do you ever paint other scenes like still lifes or figures?
Does your landscape process apply to those formats?
    I hope you will respond........
