He describes what any actor would do and should not do when delivering the line and then he says how perfect his delivery was. If you go back and watch the clip, he says the line the way you shouldn't do it. Unbelievable.
In addition, his reading implies that "buddies" is euphemistic for something, which in the context of the episode's story is not what's happening at all.
@@videogamenostalgia I always wondered if that was meant to be implied. I think you're right it's just the delivery. Garth def wouldn't script himself to be gay.

couldnt get into man to man. The live audience ruined it. Didn't fit the show, it's delivered deadpan so the characters (in universe) aren't trying to be funny, so pausing for laughter and ignoring the laughter does not make sense
Fun fact he was an actor in the London Dungeon in his early career, and got sacked for treating the place as his own personal playground; being drunk and having sex
You know, I want to try that Less Is More kind of acting, where you just, when you're talking to someone you close your eyes and then you look at them when you're not talking to the person. I mean, you open your eyes when you're looking away but then when you talk to the person you go like that, and you open your eyes and then you look back at the person but you never open your eyes when you're talking to them.
It's such a shame this wasn't part of the original show because this is the funniest part of all of the extra materials. Todd Rivers is a acting genius.
It's from a British Comedy show from the 00's called "Garth Marenghi's Dark Place", a spoof about a horror author getting his work made into a (really bad) TV show. Definitely worth watching!! 😄
it's very meta. IN UNIVERSE - So the story is some sort of Stephen King / Harlan Ellison type author called Garth Marenghi, who has a tv show made called Darkplace. The show is shot entirely in the estate of Dean Learner (played by Richard Ayoade), a London porn baron and gangster. They hire Todd Rivers (played by Matt Berry in this short clip here), a failed alcoholic actor. The show is X-Files meets E.R meets The Twilight Zone, with poor acting, editing, and filming. Mistakes abound. There's side plots too, and if you can get the director's commentary, there's a whole other layer of story. Only 6 episodes survived, and most of those with missing footage (so they fill in the blanks with the talking head interviews).
LOL - Skynet - i.e. the TH-cam algorithm - saw that I was looking at Matt Berry vids and somehow recommended this despite Matt Berry not being the title or description. Now I'm very curious if there's a vintage Matt Berry clip out there where he says "Nuuuuhhhhhhwwwwwww Yaaahhhhhkkkk Citayyyyyy"
Whoever came up with the idea of saying, "Need I say more," twice is a genius.
Matt probably just improv that line
Yeah that was just Matt actually being a good actor 😅
The more i see of matt the more i love the guy
Matt berry has always said he works best improv’ing so I’m sure he did that himself.

Legend has it that they had to build a new maternity wing in Darkplace Hospital just to accommodate Todd Rivers' pregnant pauses.
outstanding
Brilliant writing of this comment
Heheh
Fantastic work.
Majestic comment. Exemplary.
Edit: Wait, Richard Ayoade's character doesn't use this line in this episode, does he?
even funnier when the line in the show is clearly, clearly overdubbed
"I won't stand in your waaaay"
That and his overly obnoxious and deep voice lmao
@@GabiN64 obnoxious? buddy, a voice like that could shatter heavenly doors, and possibly put them back together too
And even funnier that he doesn’t blink while delivering it

I always say this to people with the hope that one of them will get the reference. No one does.
Well I get the reference.
Yes
That's how you'll know you've found the one
The only woman that will get that reference is a 300 pound monster with colored short hair.
