Great review. 👍🏾 I always go for the best of every product, but as a single adult with no kids , the premium plus has the dead flat look that I'm going for. I've tested the Dynasty , scuff proof , and premium plus side by side. Even though they were all flat, The premium plus gives you the truest anti glare flat for that look .
I’ve used all three Behr paint products; premium plus, ultra and marque. Ultra is what I like most with premium plus second never really thought Marque is worth the price. I ran a painting contracting business while in grad school and used countless brands of paints, clients all had their opinion on what is best, C2, Sherwin Williams, Ben Moore, Pittsburg, Valspar, farrow& barr, glidden, ppg, etc. At the end of the day if painting a wall they all work with some of the lower priced ones feeling low priced. Sherwin williams is my all time favorite, a bit pricey but BM i avoid as I have issues with the color spotting and to avoid i find myself constantly stirring. Overall Behr is my go to, goes one well and holds up and comes in at a great price point. I say to you let me paint two walls one with the most expensive paint available than the other with Behr, let them dry and if I don’t tell which is what do you think anyone can tell the difference?
I tested this side by side(same sheen different color) and the main difference is the finish. Ultra feels smoother and feels more protective/durable. Premium plus feels rougher but less plastic/latex feeling compared to ultra. Overall I would say ultra is superior but not a huge difference unless you are toughing your walls. Both look great. Marquee is really thick compared to these two. Its like painting with toothpaste at times I've never tried the dynasty line
Owner operator painter for 34 years and always used high end SW and BM paints. I was wrong. I switched to behr scuff defense and I’m blown away with its results and mostly coverage. I’m sold on scuff defense. Not one complaint from my customers yet. Edit…scuff defense 40$ a gal not 70
Thanks for posting such a well-organized and uncomplicated review of the Behr paint brands. You have covered the features that I really won't need for my project and given me the price comparison which made my choice very easy to make. Very helpful!
VOC's are NOT the major cause of odor in paints, The most objectionable odor in paint is the ammonia smell. Ammonia is not a VOC, as it is not a carbon ring. Behr Ultra is a much denser paint in that it uses Nano technology which introduces nano particles of zink into the paint to increase its density. This increases its resistance to mildew and moisture penetration. Behr flat paint can be used in a bathroom with shower. This would be a bad idea with other flat paints due to the high humidity and mildew probability. The higher density of Behr Ultra with Nano technology also increases its stain suppression qualities, which Behr Premium Plus does not claim. I personally think Ultra is the biggest "bang for the buck" of all the Behr paints. If you question the increased costs of the Behr paint lines, the better questioning would be between Ultra and Marquee and Dynasty.
I thought scruff was like stain resistant. Meaning like when your hands are dirty and you touch the wall or if your shoe accidentally makes contact with the wall it won’t stain it right away. Oops guess I misunderstood.
If you buy Behr Premium plus dark flat paint, it burnishes very easily. Even with lite finger touch. Its not washable. I contacted behr and they gave me free gal scuff defense since i couldn't return the Premium plus.
I have a day care and I have to agree, for the walls the ultra is good, much better than what was on the walls before. I did find a pretty big scuff within the first week, it looks like it was with a black rubber like material. But the rest looked really good. Its been less than a month and so far so good. The colors end up a bit stronger than the samples. I do not recommend for stained trim. Make sure to use at least 2 coats of primer before painting as it will come off with the dings and general wear.

Hello, I would really like to use Matte or a flatter paint since I like the look of that more. Is the durability/washability drastically different between these two if it's at the matte sheen? Also is there a PPG product that you'd recommend that is matte and very durable/washable? I like a color in the PPG line but I'd rather not color match, I am painting a lot of rooms in the house so I'll likely use both brands if there's one you'd recommend for each at the matte level. Bottom line - Ultra is about $8 more per gallon and has primer + paint. Premium Plus has no primer in it. I just did a huge kitchen ceiling using Premium Plus and it took 3 coats before satisfaction. You can do most ceilings in one coat with the Ultra.
I thought about it, but decided against it for this video. I am planning out the next one and coming up with ideas of how I can demonstrate. Hopefully future videos will go into more detail.
I hate Behr paint. It's one of the only brands I've had issues with consistently. The color is not always consistent. Pulled 5 gallons of white off the same and 3 of the 5 had different shades of white. The paint is runny and has to be babysat, especially on doors. Also you don't get as much coverage per gallon as other brands.I once did a job in Behr and the customer didn't like the color so it was changed and we use a different brand as well. I used almost half as much paint with the second color. Unless it's a small job. I will turn down jobs if a customer wants Behr. It's just not worth the hassle. People need to realize that labor is much more expensive than the paint so if I have to put an extra coat on or go slower to watch for runs then it is costing you more in the long run using a cheaper paint because I have to do more work/use more paint to achieve the same end result.

I just used premium plus flat and was very pleased. I always do 2 coats so never feel the need to buy the top brands in any paint line.

Dynasty is just like Marquee; very thick. The only difference is it has more scuff/stain resistance than Marquee.

Sherwin Williams paint is way too expensive to barely be better than behrs best paint
Promar 200. I use a lot of SW and for interior jobs that's what I use. Costs much less but is almost just as good as the higher end paints.
Can we use ultra for fence painting ?

- How long ago was your experience? All brands have reformulated in past years, so brands multiple times.
