    We've been making our way through the Little House books this year. I've never read them before and I've been enjoying them as much as the kids. We've learned so many historical things and had so many spiritual discussions. We've been listening on audibook during drives and the narrorator is great! She even sings and Pa's fiddle plays. 🎻

    Thank you for your video and my favorite part was hearing about what you are reading for yourself. I love, love, LOVE Israel Wayne. He’s a great author and speaker and as a person. My children and I are currently doing his high school Bible curriculum called Foundations in Faith and it is really great! Strange New World is sitting on my shelf waiting for me to finish what I’m currently reading. Two books I’ve recently read that are along similar lines (if you are interested) are Live Not By Lies by Ron Dreher and We Will Not Be Silenced by Erwin Lutzer (I also found this one very life changing).

      I think it's really true that sometimes it's the season your in and a book just doesn't hit. You all seem to like The Year of Miss Agnus and I could not get into that book.

    Oh no, I'm planning on reading Little Pear this upcoming school year with my kids! 😂 Another Mama on YT said they enjoyed the book so will see how it goes.
    I read Strange New World with my church last summer. What was eye opening for me was that what's happening in our culture did not happen over night. It's been decades in the making 😢

    My girls are now high schoolers, but one book they asked me to not get rid of was Little Pear! Also keeping our almost complete series of Imagination Station and Little House on the Prairie series of course. I almost got rid of Edward Tulane yesterday, but now I think I will add it as a read aloud for my younger sons this year! Understood Betsy was one of my favorites to read aloud, years ago. My daughters also loved the Max and Liz series (Epic Order of the Seven), if you haven't seen them. ❤

    Thanks for this video! One of our favorite read alouds was The Fort by Gordon Korman. Also we really liked The Captain's Dog. I'm not sure of the author. It was about Lewis and Clark expedition told through the viewpoint of the dog that traveled with them.

    I had the same experience with Tale of Despereux! I tried a few years ago to read it to the kids and it was dark and creepy to me, but we listened to it last year on audio and it was great! They even have a movie that is well done.
    I will have to check into your personal picks! They all sound great. I never read the 4 hour school day, but it seems to be targeted toward a brand new homeschooler and that’s not me.

    My absolute favorite read - probably now my favorite book of all time was Relentless by John Bevere. Christian book about being Relentless for God. So so so good. Spiritually life changing for me personally. Can’t recommend it enough ❤️

    Aw man, The Door in the Wall is on our list for next year! It looked so good - we will see 😊
    My son's favorite this year was probably Detectives in Togas (historical fiction -Ancient Rome) it was funny, educational and a bit mysterious!
    We're actually reading a book right now called Understood Betsy, and I thought we weren't going to be that into it, but it's great! Funny, charming, and even makes me cry at times, haha. My boys like it too.
    I read Bleak House by Dickens this year and LOVED IT, as I usually do with Dickens.
    Thanks so much for sharing your read alouds! I have a few added to my list!

    Would you say Imagination Station is a step up from The Magic Treehouse? While I love TMT series and grew up reading them, I'm realizing as my kiddo reads through them that they aren't as great as I remember vocabulary wise.

    • @ashleymarble8459
      @ashleymarble8459 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes...neither are fantastic literature, but imagination station is a step up. I don't use it as reading time for school, but it helps my child have interest in reading outside of school.

    I am only a little over 100 pages in on The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek, and while it is definitely a very compelling and well written read, I think it needs to be said that it deals with sexual violence and the threat of sexual violence. I read many reviews before checking it out from the library and none of them mentioned anything about this aspect of the book. I cannot speak to the rest of the book, but certainly the first 100 pages dealt with this.
