    great - could you explain how to setup the two button switch to assign the tuner to tap and hold?

    • @Poparad
      @Poparad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have them set up as remote switches. They're triggering two of the normal switches in one of layouts on the FM3. I just picked two switches that I wasn't using in one of the layouts (I picked the last two in layout 1) and assigned them to Pedal 2 (EXP/SW TIP) and Pedal 2 (SW RING). The open jack for my other 2-button switch I did the same with two more unused layout switches at the two Pedal 1 assignments. So because they're just literally external remote controls for on board switches, you can program with all the same functionality that the 3 on board ones have, other than you don't have any display text or lights.

    I'm trying to do something similar with an HX Stomp, and an Eventide H9. I am getting a Morningstar MC 6 and do you think a Morningstar ML5 loop switcher into the Morningstar can replace the Disaster 3-Loop switcher? thanks, I'm a newbie to Midi.

    • @Poparad
      @Poparad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, that should all work great. All of the Morningstar stuff is great. Since I recorded this video, I reworked the board a little bit. I now have a Cioks isolated power supply underneath to eliminate some hum I was getting by daisy chaining everything on a 1spot. To make room for it, I replaced the two MIDI Solutions boxes with a Morningstar MIDI splitter. It's smaller and has 8 outputs instead of one. I think the Morningstar loop switcher only has MIDI in, so you'll need a MIDI splitter to reach everything. The Morningstar splitter only has 3.5mm out, so you'll need to get a 3.5 to 5-pin midi adapter cable.

    This is great man! I’m in the process of planning a board now around a FM3 and novo 18. I’ll be using a RJM PBC/6X with a couple external pedals being a H90 and a drive or two.
    I’m going to checkout the insert boxes from Disaster Area but how do they connect to the novo? Like how do they stay on the board? Your video has me excited to get started this weekend.

    • @Poparad

    Hello!
    I am referring to your pedal board!
    Do you carry this pedal in the original pedaltrain hard case?
    And when you put it in the case, does it close without being too tight?

    • @Poparad
      @Poparad  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never used their hard cases, only the soft ones. When I bought this board, Pedaltrain was only making bags with no pockets (a terrible idea) so I bought a Gator mixing board bag that was a perfect fit. Pedaltrain has since returned to adding pockets to their bags.

  • @andretorruco

    Quick question! So through your thru box, it gets into the DPC Micro into the Specular Tempus. Could you do the same for the other thru channel? Like going thru into the FM3 and then out to maybe another midi capable pedal?

    • @Poparad
      @Poparad  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it's just a MIDI splitter so whatever goes in gets duplicated and sent out through two outputs. I currently have it going out to only the FM3, but I could put another pedal or two after that if I wanted to.
      The only thing to consider with routing is that the FM3 and the MC6 both send commands but you can't have MIDI Thru enabled on both or you'll get a feedback loop. So one of them has to be the end-of-the-line as far as forwarding messages goes. I have the FM3 setup with MIDI Thru off. However, the MIDI out of the FM3 still sends messages, so I can control the MC6 with it, but it doesn't forward messages from MIDI in through to the MIDI out.

    • @justinmiller7083
      @justinmiller7083 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So Midi out of axefx to MC6 in. The MC6 out to midi solutions in. Midi solutions out to tempus?

    • @Poparad
      @Poparad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Originally, Midi Solutions to the DPC Micro loop selector, thru to the Specular Tempus. The Midi Solutions is a two-way splitter, so the second out is going back to the Fractal midi in.
      Since I made this video, I replaced the MIDI Solutions boxes with a Morningstar Midi Box. Now it's Fractal out -> MC6 -> MIDI Box -> DPC -> Fractal in, with one of the outputs on the MIDI Box going to the Specular Tempus. It takes up way less space under the board, plus I have 7 more MIDI outs of I ever want to control any other outboard gear (so far never needed to, but it's an option).

    nice board, how do you wire the expression pedals?

    • @Poparad
      @Poparad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're both plugged into the MC6 and the MC6 is sending that via MIDI to the FM3. I picked a CC number in the FM3 and assigned it to External 1 solo when I want to use that pedal in a patch, I attach External 1 as a modifief to the effect.

    Why a noise gate when the Fm3 has one built in?

    • @Poparad
      @Poparad  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since the overdrive pedal is before the FM3, having the noise gate after isn't very effective. I originally didn't have the noise gate pedal on the board but I wasn't able to dial out the noise effectively, so I had to spring for one to place before the overdrive pedal.

    • @Poparad

      I used 3M Dual Loc instead of Velcro. It's thicker so there's a better airway open for the vent under the FM3. I also made sure to position the FM3 so the vent is over one of the rail gaps in the Pedaltrain. I also had to take the sides off the FM3 to make it work. It's really secure on there. It's a Pedaltrain Novo 18. I used 3M Dual Lock velcro on the FM3 along with the regular velcro on the Pedaltrain board. I took the feet off of the FM3 but both because of the extra thickness of the Dual Lock and by positioning the FM3 vent over one of the gaps in the Pedaltrain rails, I've made sure to keep the airflow unobstructed. I've used the FM3 for many hours since mounting it and the temperature has been very stable and within normal operating ranges. The Dual Lock is strong as hell, to the point where I don't know if I could actually get it back off the board again if I wanted.

      I have the basic dual momentary switch. I ordered with "normally open," but it actually doesn't matter because you can configure the polarity in the FM3 for either normally open or normally closed in the setup menu. I think mine is the "soft touch" one, but the only difference is whether you hear a click or not. It doesn't affect the functionality.

    Hi Jeremy, very nice pedal board, and very well thought out. Quick question: I'm a new FM3 user, and I have an XLR (L) out cable into an XLR input to my ZEDi 10FX mixer without a DI box. Is that ok, or should I use a DI box, or use an instrument cable FM3 out (L) to line input on the mixer? Thanks in advance! 😀

    • @Poparad
      @Poparad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      XLR straight to the mixer is fine, but it will be at line level and not mic level, so that just means you will be keeping the gain on the mixer channel lower than you would if it were a mic. When I do shows, I always tell the soundperson that the XLR out is line level so they don't accidently blast the channel.
      A DI box is only necessary if you're converting from one type to another (like 1/4" to XLR) or if you want to split the signal, which is what I'm doing. I have the DI box splitting to XLR out for venue sound and 1/4" out for my monitors.
      If you don't plan on using Out 2 as an effects loop, you can set it up to copy the signal from Out 1, then you can use the 1/4" outs the same as you would the XLR outs. You could use the 1/4" outs for your own sound and XLR for the venue's sound board and still be able to go stereo on both if you'd like.

      @Poparad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. Had the FM9 existed two years ago, I might've gone quite a different path. That said, I'm still loving this setup. I'm often using a lot of pedals with it, but not always, so the modular nature is great. It's also still a pretty small footprint on stage. The FM9 plus expression pedals would've been a lot wider and probably wouldn't fit many of my close quarters gig situations.
