- The sound of Greater Kudu making alarm calls . Greater Kudu make very loud, deep, gruff barks when alarmed by a predator such as a lion or leopard. In the background you can hear the calls of Freckled Nightjar, Double-banded Sandgrouse, White-browed Sparrow-Weaver & Verreaux's Eagle-Owl.

Why does it sound so distant?
The kudu were quite distant in this recording Chase, basically because it was an unattended rig and these were the closest calls I managed to get. Personally I like this as an example of a 'species in habitat' recording where you can hear the call in context with the other sounds of species sharing the same space. But I would like to get some closer recordings in the future!
