I started at the end of Wrath with a Druid and made my first alt as a Hunter in Cata. Been playing Hunter ever since. Can't wait to play Hunter in Cata again. So fun.
@@shaunrheeder4491 eh tbc hunter wasn't near as fun as cata/mop hunter. Even wrath hunter was more fun than tbc hunter. I've got 2 80 hunters and a 60 hunter I left at 60 from vanilla and I enjoyed hunter in every expansion but the real fun starts in cata.
As MM you got the best burst in pvp and best mobility too. For mobility, you have masters call, disengage, detterence, traps, scatter, some specific pet defensive abilities... and you can reset almost all of them as MM every 3 minutes. As MM you really get the best burst out of all classes, but it is hit or miss with only 60 % chance for instant aimed = you can shoot aimed shot, instant aimed, chimaera shot, readiness and another chimaera shot in basically 3 seconds. If at least 2 crits, the enemy is clearly dead or in kill shot radius. You also can shoot silencing shot between. On the last patch you get the 2 set bonus for 2x more focus gain from steady/cobra, so it is so much fun in the last patch.
@@diegomendoza662 it depends on the patch, but overall I would say human for pvp and dwarf for pve. On the horde it is UD for pvp and at the launch orc for pve, but later troll.
I know one of the best things about Cataclysm revamped zones was the addition of tons of rare and exotic pets across Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. I loved beast mastery and survival during Cataclysm on my dwarf hunter.
Paragon and most other guilds played MM on Ragnaros because of the Firelands Tierpiece that gave you a chance to get multishots without focus-cost. this was very good for Rag P2 where you needed burst aoe while moving. holding those proccs and unleashing massive burst aoe was a very effective way to handle those elementals and only Hunter, Moonkin and DK were even able to deal massive damage to those adds if i remember correctly
@@Basih not true. it was still fun to do stuff. leveling, zones, achiements, heroics, raids, pvp - it was all fun to do. only problem with wod was lack of content becos of 6.1 dumb selfie twitter patch and 6.3 never came out for some reason
hunter since original TBC and Cata/MoP were probably my favorite expansions playing the class even while till playing in retail. going back to classic and even SoD has been kinda painful lol
I wanted to add that MM leveling is actually viable when high lvl. The combination of Rapid Killing, Rapid Recup gives you 50 focus when a mob dies. You have super high crit on Aimed and Chimera when nuking mobs. Basically can kill one shot a mob every 6 seconds.
So, idk what patch cata classic is gonna be based on, but for Surv, the Lock n Load proc got slightly changed in 4.3 where you could basically just spam the Explosive Shots back to back without losing ticks. Hopefully, blizz goes forward with that change from the get-go for classic.
I dont think so, thats not how they work on private servers im pretty sure and theyre on 4.3.ur still weaving in an arcane shot or cobra shot inbetween each global to make sure u dont clip it.
@@afscrew123 Dunno about private servers, but back in retail Cata the meta was to just spam away all your LnL charges asap. No idea if it always worked like that, or if it was a specific 4.3 change, because MM was the top spec in t11 and t12, but MM keps on getting nerfed every tier while SV got buffed, which is why SV is now the top pick.
Thanks for the overview, was very interesting and informative. Definitely gonna be playing hunter in Cata, I've never mained hunter, but have always had it as one of my main alts, and due to how fun Survival looks in Cata and the movement it gets with being able to fire auto shots while moving, 100% gonna give it a try as my main.
Since Blizz have shown in Wrath that they are willing to do balance changes where appropriate, I have hope that they'll do something about MM in PvE. Not that I don't like the Survival playstyle in general, it is very fun - but I hate having to deal with Sniper Training. (I also hope they'll fix Fury warriors, which in the final patch state are even worse than MM - I may prefer Arms myself but more spec diversity is a good thing.)
Thing is, neither of the classes you mention will work fine with small changes like we've seen. They don't quite require a full spec overhaul either, but it's alot of work. And honestly, that's sort of a can of worms best left unopened. There are plenty of viable specs, I'd argue more so than ever before. MM absolutly works in raids, so does BM. Most players are just stuck in a metaslave mentality.
Strange. I was a MM Hunter and was topping raid charts in OG Cata. I dabbled in Survival for Firelands but switched back. I didnt fully commit to Surv til MoP. BM was always my fave tho.
Was this when Survival got a bunch of instant dot abilities and could just run and press instants all day? I was never a big hunter fan but that spec was a looot of fun to play. Only time I really enjoyed hunter.
So far in wow cataclysm classic, I have gotten my hunter to lvl 16. And so far, based on my offensive performance with him, I currently can't help but ask myself, "Dude is this even fair at this point?! None of these mobs have a prayer against me!"
after re playing bm hunter in classic cata i can say its been a smooth chill ride in dungeon grinding my only gripe about cata bm hunter is the focus regen its pretty low but its been a blast so far.

Fairly accurate. Marksmanship is viable though, the damage isnt that bad, its just not optimal. I know a of classic Andies for some reason think viable and optinal are the same thing, but MM is viable. But for most its going to be Survival no doubt. Beast Mastery should see a decent amount of play in 10 - player raids. Its damage isnt as high as SV but its THE buff coverage god.
MM Hunter in Cata is probably the best feeling hunter has felt PvP wise. I stopped playing after legion so idk about BFA and onwards but my point likely still stands.
I loved Hunter in Cata but it broke me when I learned that they were removing Volley. Was one of the coolest abilities for me and that along with Pets was what made me choose it for my first character.
I'm presonally split between maining a Rogue or a Hunter Worgen (with skinning/lw) for Cata. Rogue has the legendary, hunter has some nice aesthetics and lots of new beasts to tame. I'm also considering a dwarf shammy on the side, mostly because that staff sounds nutty and I might as well play some kind of caster. (plus, dwarf shammy with the archaeology racial and alchemy can make bank at max level farming that recipe.)
First played wow on a vanilla server in 2013, when i first tried retail it was during MoP and I remember enjoying the survival spec during levelling, such as the trap launcher and dots etc. I might play this in Cata classic.
I played hunter for almost 7 years on cata private server Twinstar. The longevity speaks itself about the fun, power and enjoyment of the hunter in cata :D
What I don’t understand is why Aspect of the Fox comes in so late in levelling - with high haste focus management isn’t nearly as painful, having that boost to regen and being able to move while casting steady shot would make levelling a lot less painful
The addition of Undead Hunters was the impetus for me to try the class. I love the idea of a class that is both “in tune” with nature while also being an unnatural abomination. Loved the class, and by the time I quit it was probably the class I was playing the most.
Hunter will be an amazing choice if your goal is primarily to pursue 10 mans. The sheer range of versatility of Hunter will ensure that you can fix most badly organized 10 man groups, Hunter is still amazing in 25s but your true mastery and skill expression on the Hunter will shine in 10s. Cataclysm also introduced Taming Challenges which were Hunter specific minigames exclusive to Cataclysm and MoP which are special Pets that you can't tame through traditional means (Freezing Trap and Tame) and you'll have to get creative and solve their puzzles to tame them. Even if you don't plan on playing Hunter I would recommend having a Hunter just to experience these, especially the Molten Front challenges were exceptionally fun.
As a hunter main since classic launched, I am very excited for cata. Survival is S-tier in PVE. MM is S-tier in PVP. and BM is actually decent in both, and will be absolute bonkers in phase 1.
Man, i remember playing MM the entire expantion, using BM for pvp, then suddenly dragon soul patch hit and nerfed mm to the ground and buffed survival, i loved the playstyle of MM, great memories of getting the haste buff in alysrazor fight, not happy about having to play SV the entire expantion, probably will just stick to vanilla era and keep waiting for wow 2 at this point
MM should be fine. You still have access to a vast majority of pet buffs. Does pretty good damage. Survival just has more utility. I remember playing MM throughout the entire expansion for raiding. Once you get haste breakpoints (pretty easy to hit) the rotation smooths out. (Played Prot Paladin and MM hunter throughout the expansion doing 25m heroics)
we dont know that, if cata is going to follow the trend and be the whole game on the last patch, mm is dead day 1 and survival is super OP, unless they actively do something to buff MM back up@@Wulfenst
When I made my first character in WoW in January of 2006, the character I wanted to create was a human hunter. I had to wait 3 expansions to be able to do it and I leveled my human hunter to max level during pre-patch only to have my guild fall apart and ended up doing no raiding in cata until near the end when I was relegated to shammy healer to get a raid spot :( Things will be different in Cataclysm Classic.
I got burned out from Wrath shortly after P2 came out. Was BIS from phase 1 on my Hunter, Mage and Balance Druid. Cant decide what I want to main for Cata. Never played before and don't wanna get burned out again. Having trouble deciding between Boomkin or Hunter.
You can play MM in PVE but you have to go for lots of crit and use Arcane shot as a focus spender. Later on with high amounts haste you can use Aimed shot casts for focus dump. On pull tho you always start with 2x Aimed shots (single target ofc). Also for dungeons you must have the Bombardment talent because it is very good for big a$$ pulls, but WillE didn't even mentioned it in this video :/
Survival is going to be really good DPS. S tier at least. BM won’t be as good but the raid utility from pets will be great. MM… not looking great. Can be viable for sure but survival does almost everything better.
Having to actively get off steady shots in order to regain focus was so miserable in pvp since you still had to be 5 yards away to get them off. Made the class really frustrating since you were now even easier to lockdown in the deadzone.

@@thomassleziak1222 I didn’t say they had bad mobility, I said once you do get caught in melee range you’re toast if you don’t have focus. You cannot get off steady shots in melee range so you cannot use any of your mobility to get out.
But scatter, traps (also with root from talents), disengage, master’s call and detterence cost nothing, what mobility are you talking about? Don’t mean it in a rude way, just asking :D
There's a lot of abilities now that dont have any cost to use them, i find this to be less immersive than before so i would love to see blizzard add mana as a third resource for hunter.
I remember playing mage in cata and getting hard countered by any hunter sitting on their keyboard enjoying coffee. Lose 25% of go outside of range, be able to run and live or die in the next 5 seconds.
Side note re: Explosive Shot. Due to dots now rolling over into the next one when refreshed, you can still spam ES during a Lock n Load proc with decent effect - though also due to how dots work, its better to only roll together two of them, space in a cobra or arcane shot (depending on focus) and then use the last ES.
I mained marksman hunter all the way through cata, and all i can say is this: if you know how to build it and spit at the mastery meta, then you outclass both survi and bm. Simply build for primarily haste and crit, forgoing mastery. Lear the mechanics of the fights, know where to stand to be able to cast, and focus of dumping focus using only chi,era chot and aimed shot. I never used arcane shot, and like this, once you reach the haste soft cap of 20%, your aimed shot will fire on global cooldown, so you can essentially spam it. It turns into a rapidfire beast, reliable damage and topping the charts easily. Scales very well with gear too.
This was true in t11 and t12, but MM kept on getting nerfed every tier, while SV got massive buffs at thje release of Dragon Soul. If you were beating other SV Hunters in t13 as MM, they didn't know what they were doing.
Cata hunters are more dynamics to play, focus is a really good add to this class and they can run and shoot, no more ammo Basically they are having what hunters players asked to improve their Class 😅
I was considering Hunter for Cata since I really enjoy it in SoD. But between with removal of swing timer stuff, replacing mana with focus, making Multi-Shot boring and switching Aspects all the time, I think it's not for me. Glad to have these videos :)
I'm looking forward to playing my Blood Elf Hunter in the expansion where I felt Hunter was at it's best. Survival for PvE and MM for PvP. I do love the arcane torrent focus regenerator which is why I will be staying as a Blood Elf

Still don't get the name. It's survival but it's more oriented for high damage instead of survivability, while marksmanship is more oriented for survivability instead of high damage. 😅
No pet assist atm. And even more annoying we can only call 1 pet at a time, even while still having call pet 1-5. You have to go to the stables to get a different pet every single time. Have BM as your 2nd spec? Well, get rdy to go back to town every time if you want an exotic pet when switching to BM. lol Id rather just have the 5min CD on call stable pet until they figure their shit out. But no we go backwards and make it worse lol. The classic cata team sure loves to show us what bozos they are sometimes.
Ranged mechanics? You forget the mage got an overhaul which now is just as good as hunter at moving around if not even better . So forcing the hunter to do mechanics alone isnt nessesary even tho most people will prolly still use the hunter due to just being the meta through the history of wow. But this time arouind some hunters may say just no to those mechanics and let t he mages do it for once.

I loved MoP Hunter but I have to say that Legion was the most fun I had playing MM and BM.
Hunter in TBC was peak. It was engaging with the changes in attack speed and was a very fast rotation.

bc and wrath have been final patch state class wise so should be in with that change.

There's nothing in any patch notes to suggest this was ever a thing, you always needed to delay or weave Arcane Shot - unless it was a PServer thing?

I seem to recall cata was when hunters absolutely wrecked everything in random bgs.
Please do Priest next, this is an interesting expac for shadow as the spec is more developed and complete than ever in classic.

I would argue shadow is a bit better in MoP with the way shadow orbs work and devo plague being like a finisher turning mind flay into insanity.

When I made my first character in WoW in January of 2006, the character I wanted to create was a human hunter. I had to wait 3 expansions to be able to do it and I leveled my human hunter to max level during pre-patch only to have my guild fall apart and ended up doing no raiding in cata until near the end when I was relegated to shammy healer to get a raid spot :( Things will be different in Cataclysm Classic.
I got burned out from Wrath shortly after P2 came out. Was BIS from phase 1 on my Hunter, Mage and Balance Druid. Cant decide what I want to main for Cata. Never played before and don't wanna get burned out again. Having trouble deciding between Boomkin or Hunter.

You can play MM in PVE but you have to go for lots of crit and use Arcane shot as a focus spender. Later on with high amounts haste you can use Aimed shot casts for focus dump. On pull tho you always start with 2x Aimed shots (single target ofc). Also for dungeons you must have the Bombardment talent because it is very good for big a$$ pulls, but WillE didn't even mentioned it in this video :/
MM was the go to spec early cata.
But after buffs and nerfs through cata, SV pulled ahead and MM got gutted due to pvp nerfs.
Best thing abt hunter in classic is the fact I can play him undead, as I find othe races too ugly to play

Survival is going to be really good DPS. S tier at least. BM won’t be as good but the raid utility from pets will be great. MM… not looking great. Can be viable for sure but survival does almost everything better.
Having to actively get off steady shots in order to regain focus was so miserable in pvp since you still had to be 5 yards away to get them off. Made the class really frustrating since you were now even easier to lockdown in the deadzone.
I agree, i miss mana and the wotlk burst, now you only get it from aimed shot
As MM you got the best burst in pvp and best mobility too, you clearly don’t know what you are talking about :D For mobility, you have masters call, disengage, detterence, traps, scatter, some specific pet defensive abilities... and you can reset almost all of them as MM every 3 minutes. As MM you really get the best burst out of all classes, but it is hit or miss with only 60 % chance for instant aimed = you can shoot aimed shot, instant aimed, chimaera shot, readiness and another chimaera shot in basically 3 seconds. If at least 2 crits, the enemy is clearly dead or in kill shot radius. You also can shoot silencing shot between. You are right about the focus tho, but on the last patch you get the 2 set bonus for 2x more focus gain from steady/cobra.
@@thomassleziak1222 I didn’t say they had bad mobility, I said once you do get caught in melee range you’re toast if you don’t have focus. You cannot get off steady shots in melee range so you cannot use any of your mobility to get out.
But scatter, traps (also with root from talents), disengage, master’s call and detterence cost nothing, what mobility are you talking about? Don’t mean it in a rude way, just asking :D

There's a lot of abilities now that dont have any cost to use them, i find this to be less immersive than before so i would love to see blizzard add mana as a third resource for hunter.

Survival Hunter in cata was the only time I’ve carried a whole raid in dps.
I was a hunter man from 2006 until the start of Cata. I remember it being horrible so I changed my main to mage

I remember playing mage in cata and getting hard countered by any hunter sitting on their keyboard enjoying coffee.
Lose 25% of go outside of range, be able to run and live or die in the next 5 seconds.
MM was a little behind Survival but fun also.
Going to main Hpal. But struggling to pic and alt between Hunter and Rogue… your guides help a lot :)

Side note re: Explosive Shot. Due to dots now rolling over into the next one when refreshed, you can still spam ES during a Lock n Load proc with decent effect - though also due to how dots work, its better to only roll together two of them, space in a cobra or arcane shot (depending on focus) and then use the last ES.
I mained marksman hunter all the way through cata, and all i can say is this: if you know how to build it and spit at the mastery meta, then you outclass both survi and bm. Simply build for primarily haste and crit, forgoing mastery. Lear the mechanics of the fights, know where to stand to be able to cast, and focus of dumping focus using only chi,era chot and aimed shot. I never used arcane shot, and like this, once you reach the haste soft cap of 20%, your aimed shot will fire on global cooldown, so you can essentially spam it. It turns into a rapidfire beast, reliable damage and topping the charts easily. Scales very well with gear too.
This was true in t11 and t12, but MM kept on getting nerfed every tier, while SV got massive buffs at thje release of Dragon Soul.
If you were beating other SV Hunters in t13 as MM, they didn't know what they were doing.
None of this is applicable in a game where we only have balance from the final patch

I actually first gonna lvl up a Blood DK and second a Hunter in Cata :)
we did play this expansion so the questions at the end have no meaning .
Cata hunters are more dynamics to play, focus is a really good add to this class and they can run and shoot, no more ammo
Basically they are having what hunters players asked to improve their Class 😅

Play druid in wrath but thinking about switching to shaman and hunter In cata hopefully not a bad decision
The best part of Cata was the fact that the Forsaken could be hunters.

mm is absolutely viable, just a bit harder to master. on st, can match surv but on aoe surv always wins

I was considering Hunter for Cata since I really enjoy it in SoD. But between with removal of swing timer stuff, replacing mana with focus, making Multi-Shot boring and switching Aspects all the time, I think it's not for me. Glad to have these videos :)

Beastmaster is the most broken tank spec in the game.
Still don't get the name. It's survival but it's more oriented for high damage instead of survivability, while marksmanship is more oriented for survivability instead of high damage. 😅
yeah, it's irony. MM should be for pve, while surv is for pvp.
No pet assist atm.
And even more annoying we can only call 1 pet at a time, even while still having call pet 1-5. You have to go to the stables to get a different pet every single time.
Have BM as your 2nd spec? Well, get rdy to go back to town every time if you want an exotic pet when switching to BM. lol
Id rather just have the 5min CD on call stable pet until they figure their shit out. But no we go backwards and make it worse lol.
The classic cata team sure loves to show us what bozos they are sometimes.

Is survival good in pvp?
Ranged mechanics? You forget the mage got an overhaul which now is just as good as hunter at moving around if not even better . So forcing the hunter to do mechanics alone isnt nessesary even tho most people will prolly still use the hunter due to just being the meta through the history of wow. But this time arouind some hunters may say just no to those mechanics and let t he mages do it for once.
