- Plans are available on E-Bay to build this saw mill. This saw is an improved version of my original sawmill. It is much stronger and more rigid, and uses acme rods instead of cable for the lift mechanism. This video shows the saw being assembled after its components were painted. I made the first saw from left over material from previous projects and items friends had. I sold that saw and built this saw entirely from new material which exactly met my new design. Search "Sawmill Plans" on E-Bay to get the plans.
I am Ben's daughter and just now working thru his emails where I was overwhelmed with interest in my dad's activities. I am determined to get the plans back on line soon and will post here when I do. I am very grateful for this community...there is truly no one like my dad. My heart aches daily as he lived with positivity and kindness and brilliance that makes him a one of a kind. More to come...hopefully very soon. All the best!
I am waiting on this 🎉
That is fantastic work and a great quality build. That's a hell of an achievement - not many people on this planet are even capable of coming close to having the intelligence and the skills to build something like that.
That is the best 'how to build a sawmill' demo I have seen on TH-cam - fantastic setup 👍😉
This set of plans has been great to build with. I have never welded or built anything with steel these plans make me look like I know what I am doing. I am almost ready to start cutting some wood just need to do an alignment and put a blade on. Just need a day or 2 without snow and cold. Thanks Ben for all your help
I built one like this using your plans. It was a lot of work but it works well.the plans were well done and saved me a lot of time not having to design it.
I've never posted anything to youtube but I think I'm going to take a video of a bandsaw mill I built for work that cuts big blocks of ceramics using a diamond blade. Its very similar to yours and will be even more so when I add your Warn winch idea. I was going to add a motor but the winch idea is perfect, thank you.
Hey Ben. I have watched your video's many times.. Today I started my own build. Still do not have a good plan but I feel I have a good direction. Thanks.
Very thorough job of explanation and a wonderful mill
Thank You!
wow, i thought your first version was impressive. this one takes the cake. this one looks so good you could market & sell this.
Your contact information pls I will love to make wan .
Ben,
Have you considered modifying the sawmill so the blade enters at an angle of 15 degrees, like the EZ Boardwalk sawmill? They claim that the saw pulls itself into the workpiece with this angled design, making the saw easier to operate.
Boy, it's built so professional. Awesome machine there, Sir.
Thank you so much for sharing. Very generous of you. Very well made machine too.
Very nice mill. Acme threaded rods must hold the mill with less movement in the cut, good feature. What is the effect of sawdust on the action of the Acme threads? Does the sawdust pack into the nut. Do you oil or grease the rods? Thank You for showing us your mill.
Where did you get yellow wheels, How much and what size, I need two 21" dia?
Love to see the pans. Thanks
I have bought your plans and have build a sawmill only with a longer track and bigger engine. Very good and detailed set of plans.....well worth the money. Now I would like to build a board edger but unable to find plans. Wondering if you or any one else knew of plans?
Really did a nice job, you should be happy with it.
Very nice set up. Great Job...Good presentation
You have no idea how well your narrations have helped me !! Thank you so much and Please keep posting for us dummies LOL Awesome Job !!
Hi there
Good update
Keep on cutting
Have a good day 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸
this machine is very convenient and work perfectly. .thanks Alexfloors
Everything looks great and heavy duty. Does the track build up with debris as one side of the track has a wall from the frame which doesn't let the sawdust and dirt fall away?
Some debris gets caught but is not a problem. Logs sawn are normally recently cut from live trees. Note that the sawmill is still cutting beautiful lumber. It relocated to the pacific northwest a few years ago and now mostly cuts Douglas Fir. As for maintenance, quite a few blades, a battery, a dry bearing needed replacement, and Mobil 1 oil and filter every 50 hours. Not bad and sawmill is still as great as it was the day it became functional.
I just purchased your plans from ebay and I have to say, I am extremely impressed. Lots of detail, and the 3D modeling helps to visualize components very well. You have done an outstanding job. I noticed that nearly several hundred plans have been purchased...do you know if anyone has finished one of your mills?
A number of them have been built. Because I highly recommend using what you have access to and being creative, a couple of them are almost difficult to believe that they started with my design.
Eagerly awaiting my plans.
Awesome and very clean build sir!!
Great machine mate. Well done.
this machine is very convenient and work perfectly. .thank
Very nice build!
Nice job,can you explain a bit more about the acme threaded rod? What size chain and sprockets you used, hand crank or motorized?
Hi TexasBen5! How long did it take you to build the framework. I have watched a lot of videos on How to build a wood saw Mill so I will go for something like yours.
Tom Ayrshire Scotland. a great video too.
Hello Texas Ben. Just finished my new home made band sawmill. First cuts video without all the protective covers installed for making final adjustments on my YT channel.I wrote a downloadable free book on how to build this sawmill, if your interested. The 18 HP engine is very strong, with the adaption of an alternator to charge the battery and run the winches. Book explains how to modify a winch to raise and lower the saw running the acme lead screws. Portable 24' log bed to cut on. The blade turns 6000' per minute and book shows all pulley sizes needed to achieve this speed. Thought this might be of help to you, if you wanted to build a larger mill. Enjoy.
I would love to download the book. I just ordered the plans a few minutes ago. Can you let me know where I can download?
Hi Ronald the link you need is in the discription under my sawmill video on my YT channel. If you need any more info please post on my video, thanks.
Well done....looks good...
I have 6 feet of 1 inch acme screws left over from another project.
I could use this if it is not to large for the mill.
How can I get plans & a parts list.
Great job on both 1 & 2 saw mills, wonderful filming job also.
Thank you for sharing your work.
Ben you’ve designed and built a very nice mill
I’m going to purchase your plans
One thing I’m wondering if you’ve had any problems with sawdust building in the tracks. It looks like dust will build up rather quickly and being in freezing temps during our winter month might be a problem
Like to know your thoughts on this
No problem. I sweep the tracks if a buildup starts. With a sharp blade and proper blade speed, the sawdust will be blown away and will not be a problem. The problem which does occur is small broken
Debris builds up if the log isn’t solid. A fix which I need to add to my plans is to put a vertical
Small plate with a slot to somewhat scrape the track where the rollers ride to keep the track clean. I problems writing this reply.
Ok
Thanks for getting back so quickly
I’m gonna “try” and order the plans today
My neighbor is gonna help me with the ordering process, I’m not worried about the building process, but the computer stuff....I’m old school 😁
I have been wanting to build one of these mills for a long time. Yours is the first one I've seen that really encompasses everything I want in a mill. I ordered the plans and would like to know what motor you use. I have a Honda GX390 and think it should handle the job nicely.
Wow great well done.
Thanks for sharing! one question- I noticed you use an intermediate pulley set up. Others I've looked at have belts that go straight from the motor to the drive pulley. What is the benefit of using in intermediate set up like you have on both of your mills?
You can cut larger logs.
Awesome build, Sir! Question: How long do your blades last cutting thru that tough mesquite?
Very nice machine - great job!
what is the approx price for all materials? Thank you
I, like someone else here, have looked for the plans on ebay, and haven't been able to find them. this is the best DIY mill on here, by far, and would really like to get the plans. Any help would be appreciated. thanks, Steve
I am now able to support selling the plans again, so I have relisted them on ebay.
The acme screw will work nicely. Search "Sawmill Plans" on E-Bay for plans. Drawings of every part with 3D views and lots of pictures. Almost 1 GB of data, so it is easy to have success in building a great sawmill.
Great job! Nice saw!
Building a new band mill to your set of plans i purchased, with exception of size, we need to be able to make 46'' cuts for talbe tops. I thing of going to 1.5 blade width with 26'' wheels. Machine is 20' long on trailer. but where should i look for 80'' ACME threaded rod
Using larger wheels should be no problem. You might use 2 belt pulleys and use a 2" blade. Guides will need to be lengthened. Do not know about 80", but 72" should be available - search internet and inquire with 1 1/4" acme rod suppliers. larger blade will improve lumber quality and larger wheels mean less bending wear on blade so blade will last longer. I would invest in carbide blades to cut very large hardwood. The saw frame is plenty strong enough for enlargement, but the track needs to be strengthened and supported.
+gregory sartain link me to those plans sirI cant find them
Forgive me if I missed these answers. Are those Surplus Center 18.75 wheels you're using? If so, what size V belts are you using? Also, what width band are you using?
Ben do you have just a cutting head without engine or tract you would sell?
Ben,
Are you still selling sawmill plans?
Where did you get the clutch pulley? I have been looking and cannot find a double groove clutch pulley.
Would love to have the plans please
TexasBen5 using your blueprints, can you give an estimated cost in material for this build?
What would you charge to build the sawmill, to be put together by me? Just curious, due to my capabilities of welding and what not...
Are you still selling on Ebay?
What did u do with old.one.? Do u want to sell it?
Great Job !!!
when will the plans be available again?
how much does it cost for the plans
What is the name of the plans on ebay?
hey i searched on ebay and cant find your plans is there any specific term to search for. or just send me a direct link. thanks
Projet PDF ?
What's the investment?
Search "Sawmill Plans" on EBay. Sawmill is Red. Cost is $35. Total size of files on dvd is 940 MB,
when are plans going to be available again?
Plans again available on EBay.
+TexasBen5 ordered! Where do you get your blades from?
www.spectrumsupply.com/band-saw-blades.aspx
I'm in Australia, I bought 11 various blades, 14'2", from Spectrum, in the States, which even after delivery, was cheaper than just 3 blades here in Australia.
Can't seem to find plans on eBay. Are they still available?
Yes. Go to EBay.com and search for "sawmill Plans". The plans are the ones with the Red Sawmill picture.
I would like to order some of these plans. how can I do that
Plans will again be available within 2 weeks - by May 1, 2016 on eBay.
Muy.exelente sería okey.en.castellano.tambien ojalá.grasias
Now the Elephant in the room.
How come no one has mentioned folding/unfolding blades, forward and reverse direction of cutting teeth. I have a blade, that for the like of me, I can not change the direction of. I am taking a rest with it, as I have bled about all the Blood that I have at the moment. Help....Anyone....!....?????
i believe you can twist the blade to turn it inside out and change direction.
nice
Engineering marvel.
I never got my plans by mail or email
it look like your guide wheels are sticking out over your blade teeth, that cant be good on the teeth set.
ben I cant find the plans
Plans will not be available again until May 1, 2016. They will be available on Ebay using the search "Sawmill Plans" and select the Red picture.
+TexasBen5 thanks cant wait
+TexasBen5 best mill plans ive seen yet
damn!
about how much did it cost you to build this?
It cost $2600 using all new parts. It can be build for a fraction of this if you use components you have access to. Search "Sawmill Plans" on EBay and look for the Red picture to purchase a set of plans.
wow, thats nice, I would have figured it cost much more, you did a great job there, may have to give that a try someday
FYI. We lost TexasBin in 2022.
Sorry to hear that. No wonder I couldn't contact him!
what you've built is a commercial quality mill not a cheap Chinese knock off, good 1 babbie.
Ben
Very nice design
I’m going to purchase your plans
One thing I’m concerned about, do you have any problem with sawdust building up in the track with the 1” angle welded on the 3” side. It looks like dust will build up there fairly quick and being in freezing weather during our winter months might be a problem
O
this machine is very convenient and work perfectly. .thank
nice
