  • This week, James and Chappy head to the River Trent at Clifton, to fish a stretch of water controlled by the Nottingham Federation of Anglers. The theme this week is Bolo' fishing with long match rods, a proven method particularly when fishing in bright conditions and clear water. The day was a scorcher, but this method proved successful with plenty of dace, roach and perch action.

    These rods are truly amazing I have both the 15ft and 16ft #1
    Great vidio as always well done to all the crew at cadence
    It is a stunning stretch of the river Trent well done to the Notts feds lads for
    The hard work they put in bank cleaning and looking after the stretches they run

    Great video! Thanks a lot! I am like this method, but i hate "bolo" and "telematch" rods. I am use only waggler rods. My favorite rod Drennan Acolyte Ultra 15 ft. I am fishing on the wild rivers- Mologa, Medveditsa, Msta. I'm lucky sometimes. Ide ( 2, 8 kg ), chub ( 2, 6 kg ),
    grayling ( 1, 3 kg ), bream ( 3, 2 kg )- my best fish on the bolo fishing. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me.

    Like the new hatJames, a very good informative video, filmed in possible the worst type of weather for fishing. This proves with the right approach you can still have a good day fishing. Well done again James and Chappy.

    Brilliant video as usual guys. Probably the best vids on you tube IMO. Excellent locations and the camera work and method info is superb. By the way James, you're still getting the maggots heads and tails the wrong way round. The head is the pointy end, that's where the mouth is and the blunt end is the posterior ( the bum end ). What looks like eyes on the blunt end are actually breathing tubes for when the maggot is burrowing into its food head first ( ie the pointy end ) lol. Anyway guys, keep them coming they're great viewing. Cheers.

    Nice video , just a couple of things if i may:
    at minute 16:54 you can really tell James is fishing "backwards", the float is running before the bait and that is not ideal for bait presentation. You need to "hold" the float more to ensure that the bait runs before the float with the line and the shots well lying on the bottom. It is tricky to hold properly a running float because when you do that the float starts to pull towards you (that is the main reason for the usage of long rods that prevent this) but it is really necessary otherwise as i mentioned before the bait presentation is not ideal.
    regardless keep up the good work i really enjoy your videos!!!

      Hi, yes at that moment the float was running out of control. It was the lighter 2 grm float and I may not have been controlling the float in those seconds. Sometimes when float fishing I let the float go down the swim with out controlling it. Then when I get to the catching area I’ll control it, this can save time in a match. Or it may have been a moment when I wasn’t concentrating on the float but Chappy the camera man was! Cheers James

      Giacomo Mei reasonable comment to make. I would say I caught the motion of the float in that instance maybe at the 'wrong' moment, so please forgive your humble cameraman this time😄

      Ahah it's ok!! it's just that when i started this type of fishing here in Italy i did the same mistake at the beginning so i got repriminded a lot by my mentor so i kinda noticed it straight away without thinking. Never doubted your expertise and i said before keep up the good work!!

    Hi James,can you use the bolo method on shallow rivers,like the Avon around Evesham,cheers

    • @CadenceFishingUK
      @CadenceFishingUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      essentially yes, but a more finesse stick or waggler style typically works better on shallower venues.

    That's the trouble when fish light you hook a barbel step up for them and you won't hook one middle Trent as been like that for years

    • @CadenceFishingUK
      @CadenceFishingUK  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Paul Kerry it's a balance Paul between gaining bites, mostly from smaller fish to win some team points, or maybe missing out on those weight building fish if you fish heavier. On a low clear river in blazing sun, James opted to fish lighter in his hooklength choice than perhaps he might ordinarily have done and paid the price when he unexpectedly hooked the larger fish which could have actually been a pike taking a dace for all we know!? Guys fishing heavy gear nearby were catching nothing. Horses for courses. Cheers. Chappy😀

      @@CadenceFishingUKAbsolutely!
      I know guys that fish for big river carp with 8- 10 size carp hooks,terribly undersized for river carp with amazong power,but they get bite after bite,and lose many.
      The more traditional guys use size 2-4 hooks,which are adequate for those beasts,they maybe get a few bites in week!

    I just cant find info on which type of rod i need. Match or bolo rod. River size and current speed are somewhat the same and there are loads of smaller ponds too.

    • @CadenceFishingUK
      @CadenceFishingUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There really isn't a one rod for everything. Perhaps a 13ft #2 would tick a lot of boxes.

    Metric line size is confusing as there is no standard to compare with. So what is the poundage of a 0 .10 line?. I've always found James videos really informative and this one is no different. Glad Bolo fishing is getting more known in the UK now.

    Get some decent Bolo and you'll solve a lot of problems. You won't have to perform acrobatics during the throw and the counter will be much faster.
    This is where the Bolo 6m would be ideal. By the way, your floats are nothing special. Try one from Italian or some Balkan production. It seems the English still haven't figured out Bolo fishing...

    That's not bolo fishing, bolognaise fishing is done with a long pole and no reel, I call this video: selling rods...

    • @CadenceFishingUK
      @CadenceFishingUK  5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      With respect sir, you are incorrect. 1. Bolo' as we refer to it in the UK is exactly what James is doing. 2. Bolo's style as the Italian's may refer to it, was evolved with a long telescopic rod (with a reel) with a large bodied float, maybe larger than the one James is using, to tackle big, strong flowing rivers.

    • @CadenceFishingUK
      @CadenceFishingUK  5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Sir, further to your assumption that the video is 'about selling rods'...well of course you are correct, how else are such high quality informative videos created and funded? I trust you are gleaning many useful tips from these and other manufacturer's videos? Best regards Chappy (cameraman)
