Embiid lost last game, went out of his way to throw his teammates under the bus like its kindergarden, the disrespect to every player and staff member and all the effort by the whole team, ''Me and Harden (2 MVP Players) can't win alone'', while being outscored by role players, If i was his teammate, I will roast the living hell out of him, it's not like Im winning anything with such a baby.

He's a horrible analyst on top of all of that, so is Max Kellerman and all these types. They're all getting schooled by this Nuggets team and incredible play from Jokic. And being that Jokic is only 28 they can watch the next 5-7 years of dominance and continual reminder that they were wrong as he stacks up accolades and titles in the coming years.

@@hunlander3133 ESPN is circling the drain BECAUSE they won't stop injecting race into every discussion. A temporary spike in outrage viewership isn't a sustainable model.
Jokic didn't lose the MvP, Jokic made a decision to give it to Embiid, Jokic was alittle hurt in the last few games of the season, and knowing they will not lose the #1 seed, he made a team decision. He got healthy to make a run at the Championship over a individual award. Jokic is a team leader, Embiid is a "me me" guy. Everyone but the NBA voters know Jokic is the MvP, and it shows right now in the playoff.
I think this is the first time I saw someone said Jokic's decision, and that's exactly what I believe the case was. If go back and look at Nuggets' record, their performed downward almost exactly after Perkins's comment. I watched every nuggets game this season, Jokic was observably tanking after that take, being less aggressive on both ends of the floor, he even stopped raising his hands to contest shots, he just let people score, and the Nuggets played a horrendous stretch of games in that month. I thought he was really annoyed by all the narratives, the skin color and the one saying he was stat padding. He just wanna go out there and play his game, get away from all the trending fights. He let Embiid have it so that he could focus on his own pure brand of basketball, and to try to win the real deal. The whole time, Embiid was aiming for Jokic. Jokic was aiming for championship. Embiid was trying to prove he's better than Jokic. Jokic was trying to prove his team and his teammates are the best in the league.
Agree with Jokic giving it up. Jokic lost because of a variety of reasons at the end of the day. Some reasons are bigger than others but in no specific order here are the ones that come immediately to mind. 1. “Jokic can’t win 3 in a row because MJ,Lebron etc, and all time greats haven’t won is 3 times in a row” 2. “Jokic is gonna win 3 in a row because he’s white” 3. Embiid crying for MVP 4. Sympathy for Embiid 5. Media always blasting Jokic for his playoff failures, even though Embiid hasn’t gone to a western conference finals ever. 6. Media fatigue on Jokic even though he is having historic seasons back to back to back. 7. Jokic tanking at the end after getting 1st seed to rest up. 8. Jokic saying he doesn’t care for the MVP at the end after getting it asked about the MVP consistently. All of this added up at the end. I believe though that if they hadn’t brought up race in this, Jokic would have won his 3rd this year. He deserves it.
I don’t think so , I think he take it as a motivation, first he got second last pick in the all star game and now people just don’t vote for him , he take all that as motivation
Embiid had a defensive rating that was less than 1.0 better than Jokic had, but Jokic had the much better offensive rating and it's been apparent in the playoffs that Nikola got robbed by Perkins and others who thought Embiid deserved a participation trophy.
That sort of statistic is pretty volatile. Nuggets are not known as a defense master. They play defense sometimes good, sometimes bad. Mostly bad. So that statistic in Joker's column can not be brilliant not because of him. Defense is a team work.
@@boxtja1442 Really?! What about Nuggets injury list??? MPJ and Murrey where absent so long. This is first season they play from the begining together. You have forgotten it, dude!

Thats why they didnt do it this time, you dont know history." No, I was hoping we had learned from history. Then there are people saying Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell and Jokic are overrated..... Showing you how dumb people can be....
Two things; Embiid won MVP because he whined and moaned to anyone who would listen. Second... While I respect Key for his football acumen, he and his fellow talking heads should not wander outside of their respective lanes. I don't need a Football analyst trying to talk to me about Baskethall. I don't ask a Golfer to describe the intricacies of the 3-4 Defense, or a Cyclist to explain the 4-4-3 lineup in Soccer.
Yeah kinda like the media with the LA and Denver series, all they talked about was LA! Denver is a #1 seed for a reason and a complete team. 3-0 lead. Bye bye LA Floppers. :-P lol
I agree Embid whined and complained and the media played into it. Jokic is clearly a better player as you can see he and the nuggets are giving the Lakers the business.

Jokic is by far the more valuable player for his team, by FAR. The sixers played better in the regular and post season without Embiid. And once he did win it, he mailed it in the rest of the playoffs. All Embiid really cared about was playing well to win the mvp, and this year proved it. I read the comments and laugh. I feel sorry for the people who will never understand who and what Nikola Jokić is like. He comes from a beautiful town in Vojvodina, from a region that cannot be described in words. You have to be born and raised there to understand the kind of peace and balance that reigns there, even in spite of the great historical storms that raged there. Sombor and Vojvodina are like the balm that you put on a wound to heal it. And so it has been for centuries. You know, next to Sombor there is a brewery that is older than the USA. So, don't worry, you will never understand Nikola Jokić and that type of soul. He just loves to play basketball, the same way he used to in his old school yard with his friends, looking forward to it. That's why he is a unique phenomenon in the world of top sports, and awards like MVP don't mean much to him.

@@hmrhuang Perkins spooked the white voters and stoked any black voters who were inclined to race politics. It also made Jokic step off since he didn't want to be involved in any of that sort of talk.
Serious question. Has an NBA player ever begged for the MVP award before or have they ever attempted to shame people into voting for them before Embiid? According to my memory no, but I could be wrong.
Jokic deliberately took his foot off the gas as soon as the Nuggets had secured top seed to concentrate on the playoffs, I new & Jokic knew that he wouldn't win the MVP...Perk & race is overplayed as a reason....I mean Jokic won two in a row over several black candidates...

Interesting fact - Embiid avoided to play matchs in Denver in last 5 years!!! Last time he played in Denver in 2018!!! This spring a game before Sixers came in Denver they have played in San Francisco, Embiid scored 48 points. After game Embiid said he can not play in Denver because of injury. What injury if he scored 48 points against champions?!
Embiid shoots more free throws than even Shaq did during the hack a Shaq era by taking advantage of rules and by flopping, which also makes defenders even afraid to guard him. Embiid will always be worse in the playoffs because his games don’t work so well when things get real. Jokic is the best team basketball player by a lot and Greek freak is best individual player by a lot. Embiid is this regular season free throw shooting really good player
This - Embiid is basically what you get if Harden was 7'0 ft and still had the same approach to the game. Relying on getting to the line and flopping your ass of is just not reliable if you want an offensive production that translates into the playoffs, where you don't get those calls. Maybe Embiid should become a Laker cuz then he'll surely get more calls.

You didn’t mention advanced metrics, which are, I think, crucial in determining the value of a player, and which are conveniently ignored by people when they don’t support their favorite players. The advanced metrics show, almost invariantly, that Jokic was the supreme player: BPM, OBPM, DBPM, PER, VORP, WS, OWS, RAPTOR WAR - not only was Jokic better than Embiid in each of the categories, he was better than every other player in the NBA. Jokic was better. Jokic was more valuable. Period.
As a sixers fan, I wanted Embiid to win MVP the last 2-3 years and the whole time J was hearing Jokic is better but I would tune it out. Embiid won the MVP this season so I had high expectations for him to finish off the Celtics and I got the eye opposite. Having the chance to watch Jokic and Murray play has left me rooting for Jokic and I want them to go all the way even tho I still have mad love for Jimmy and the Heat. Embiid: "What else do I have to do to win the MVP"? Answer: "Play to help your team win games instead of playing to win individual awards." Embiid forces shots to keep his scoring numbers high instead of playing in the flow of the offence. Embiid won the award only because Jokic had already won 2 in a row.
Basically, it was more about the narrative "Lebron didn't get 3 in a row so why should anyone else get 3". People were more concerned about protecting the past that they screwed us from the opportunity of witnessing something historical. We could say we saw a player win his third straight and a franchise's first championship which would make for one of the best seasons ever by a player, and it would be from someone drafted in the 2nd round to make it even more incredible. Some people cry about moving the goal post when choosing an MVP. What most MVPs have in common is that they led in win shares, the next closest stat would be PER. The same player has led the entire league in both of those stats the past 3 years but didn't win MVP this year, go figure. Meanwhile, in the modern NBA, the league's scoring leader hardly wins MVPs anymore and in the past 10years they also have very poor postseason success. Iso-ball type game is something that makes players look phenomenal putting up ridiculous numbers from high usage, but it has not been something that helps win in the playoffs.

very simple formula to guarantee the correct MVP every year: Win Shares multiplied by team wins. that easy. I won't go over every past MVP using this formula, but here's some notables: Jokic would be the runaway winner the past 3 seasons. Nowitzki wins over Nash both seasons, making him a 3x MVP. Jordon would win 2 of Magic's 3 MVPs (though one is very close). Bird was the deserving winner all 3 years he won. Gervin would win over Walton in '78 (mainly because Walton only played 58 games--if you don't play, you don't get Win Shares, thus eliminating the need for an arbitrary 65-game minimum). And both Kareem and Wilt would have at least a couple more MVPs. this formula is pretty much air-tight and consistent across all eras, and it's simple enough that casual fans won't be confused.
The MVP should be given to the best player and most valuable to his team and NBA. It should be won by all time greats who step it up in the playoffs. ... For MVPs like Nash, Embid , Malone etc it should be called offensive player of the year .... Joker and Butler are the best players in the league
The only reason he lost was bcoz NBA was too afraid to give Jokic 3 straight MVP bcoz that puts him in Greatest Center of all time Convo ,and he is European cant give it to him
You cant have someone outside USA dominating the league. And on top of that Jokic is Serbian. This was political award and we know it. Embiid is just a sacrificial lamb at this point. Go by: Give him something by giving him nothing.
Charles Barkley is obviously a man of great integrity unlike a lot of basketball pundits. It seems that it does not sit well with many black basketball players, fans and media pundits that a white boy is the best player in a game traditionally dominated by black athletes. The US and the NBA in particular, are rife with racism. Some of the basketball pundits have been hell bent to discredit and offend Jokic, inciting racial hatred and so on. Some amongst the racist scum repeatedly call him names, like "a big tub of lard" (Stephen A. Smith), some use their position to take away awards that he would have won had he been black (Kendrick Perkins, Mark Jackson), some try to undermine, discredit and disrespect him whenever they open their nasty, racist mouths (Keyshawn) and the rest just cannot wait for Jamal Murray to have a good game occasionally so they could claim he was all along the best player carrying the Nuggets (what the eff?!). To top it all off, the white analysts slag Jokic off for fear of being perceived as racist. You cannot make it up. Jokic has been a victim of blatant racial discrimination, xenophobia and abuse in the NBA circles and none of it is being officially acknowledged nor sanctioned. Welcome to America I guess, where racism is still legal.

Jokic is about to win an NBA championship; you don't hear him talking about the MVP anymore... so, why are you? I never understand why people make such a big deal about MVPs. It's just not that important. What matters is CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!
The only statistical category Embiid lead Jokic in was points per game. If you factor in the assists each had, Jokic was responsible for far more points per game. Voter fatigue is the only answer, and they're going to look like fools when the Nuggs win it all and Jokic is finals MVP.
Hate to break this to all of you but there is no guarantee Jokic will be Finals MVP. Sure he could lose, but even if he wins the championship, It is far from a guarantee that he wins. Right now if there is an MVP in the Western Conference Finals I believe Jamal Murray would be his name.
I don't think Jokic cares about that one either, I'm sure he would be just as happy to see Murray get it. The only thing Jokic cares about is leading his team to a championship and working towards cementing himself among all time greats by the time his career is over.
Philadelphia had same winning percentage without Embiid in lineup this year. Denver had a losing record when Jokic didn't play. Jokic is the better player and it's not close.
If you think Jokic is boring to watch then basketball isnt for you. He has the smoothest game and everything he does is mind boggling. If you watch him do a step back fadeaway circus shot from 3 over AD and youre not excited what the hell does excite you?
Mark Jackson admitted he didn't have Jokic in his top 5. That's a trash move from someone with a vote for MVP. I would have no problem if Jokic was a borderline candidate for MVP but, he was clearly in the top 3, along with Embiid and Antetokounmpo. Jackson deliberately kept Jokic out of the top 5 so he would not get any points that might help him leap over Embiid in the MVP race. Voters shouldn't play sides. They should vote based on who they think deserve it and let the totals determine the outcome. Any voter that thinks Jokic doesn't deserve a top 5 vote has no credibility as a basketball analyst and should lose their right to vote.
Great video breakdown. I’m a 76ers fan and very disappointed in the game 7 performance. When the mvp conversation was relevant a few months ago I had Giannis, Jokic, or Embiid. I figured maybe Embiid would win due to his season story whereas both giannis and Jokic have won both twice. Still I also thought it’s a very good chance Jokic could win it with I was Good with that outcome as well. When you mentioned Bird, Russell, and Wilt I realized that could’ve been why Jokic didn’t win it because those three players are icons of the sport for many decades of the past and future.
I think it should be given directly after the end of the regular season, not after the first round, because then, the playoffs have no chance at all of affecting the vote
Unfortunately, the race to define the MVP resulted in an argument that has nothing to do with the ability of the candidates. It all came down to proving that black candidates have the same chance of winning the MVP award as white candidates. For this reason, this year they gave the award to Embiid but for this reason he received an award that most sports connoisseurs understand that he did not deserve and that they will take away from Nikola Jokic. What a pity that even in 2023 we cannot appreciate things without considering the color of people's skin.
Keyshawn Johnson's slow criticism opinion of Jokic's game sounds pretty familiar to his career in the NFL!! At least Joker's playing style has winning results.
Crying to the media so you can gain an award you clearly didnt deserve is outrageous and he should be punished for this unsportsmanship and unprofessional behaviour besides playoffs jokic's regular season was clearly better than embiid's and it is sad that he took away his chance at 3peating the award
So much racism from people that are throwing in our faces that they were oppresed 300 years is a funny thing. Poor Embid, let him have, but all the basketball fans know who the true MVP is. Racism towards eastern europeans is a thing that shows how fucked up american society is. Show em Joker and win the Finals.
Reminds me of when David Robinson beat out Olajuwon for MVP. We all knew that Olajuwon was way better and then Olajuwon proved it in the payoffs when they met head-to-head.
There is nothing to explain at all, it has almost always been like this. Voter fatigue is the main reason why Lebron hasn't won more MVPs or why Jordan or any other dominant star never won more. If MVP really was given to the best, most valuable player the same guy would be winning the award every year. Narratives and so many other things matter, it isn't just stats, this is nothing groundbreaking its always been like this.
Here is what i think: the NBA does not what jokic to be 3 time mvp because he is not american. If he became mvp again,it will go down to history-mvp who is not american.. and man, 3 time consecutive mvp award is tough to beat.. the narrative should be- AMERICA should be the best in the world in all aspects..

And being that Jokic is only 28 they can watch the next 5-7 years of dominance and continual reminder that they were wrong as he stacks up accolades and titles in the coming years.

1. “Jokic can’t win 3 in a row because MJ,Lebron etc, and all time greats haven’t won is 3 times in a row”
2. “Jokic is gonna win 3 in a row because he’s white”
3. Embiid crying for MVP
4. Sympathy for Embiid
Exactly.
I don’t think so , I think he take it as a motivation, first he got second last pick in the all star game and now people just don’t vote for him , he take all that as motivation
Hopefully Embiid really enjoys that MVP trophy while Jokic raises a championship trophy.
Embiid had a defensive rating that was less than 1.0 better than Jokic had, but Jokic had the much better offensive rating and it's been apparent in the playoffs that Nikola got robbed by Perkins and others who thought Embiid deserved a participation trophy.
It is not a DPOY award. Defensive prowess is not a significant factor when determining MVP
That sort of statistic is pretty volatile. Nuggets are not known as a defense master. They play defense sometimes good, sometimes bad. Mostly bad. So that statistic in Joker's column can not be brilliant not because of him. Defense is a team work.
Joel Embiid got robbed last season.

#1 reason, Kendrick Perkins. He's the one who started this whole ish. Joker was on his way to winning a 3rd before Perkins started running his mouth.

Jokic 29 triple doubles this season
Embiid 1 triple double this season.
you do the math.
Jokic put up the highest PER season of all time😂
@@antiarezzo7630I think that was last year

I think he won for 3 reasons - 2 you mentioned but the third was racist. It’s ironic that Perkins reason for why Embid loss in previously is the same reason he won this time.
This was amply borne out by Mark Jackson admitting he made a mistake by leaving Jokic out for his selection. What a disgrace.
Jokic is proving who is the real MVP
ironic that Perkins reason for why Embid loss in previously is the same reason he won this time. That's a wisdom too many will never have.
Charles Barkley said it best. "Any fool voting for MVP who doesn't put Jokic in his top 5 doesn't deserve to vote for MVP". A jerk move if there ever was one. Mark Jackson had to apologize for his snub. He was broadcasting NBA playoff games with Jokic always right in front of him. He had to save what little of his face that was still left.
Dont think anyone can hold it against Jokic that he hasn't won a title, this is the first season his co stars were actually healthy enough to make a run since 2020. Embiid has had the squads to win, he just hasn't. Now that Jokic has a healthy squad, his odds are looking pretty damn good.
Jordan didn’t win a title until he was Jokic’s age and had an all star teammate. Jokic still doesn’t officially have an all star team mate.
Yet he still won.
Jokic is better than Embiid, and it's not even close. But he doesn't care about some silly individual award, he wants an NBA championship. And he will have it in a few more days.
MVP voters needed to take "affirmative action" and give MVP Award to Embiid because...you know....black players are not represented enough in NBA.
It is called "positive discrimination" and to be honest, Embiid whined so much they had to give it to him to stop crying.
Affirmative action benefited white women more than anyone else and gave birth to "lemme talk to your manager."

@@boxtja1442 In 2021 Playoffs they lost to the Suns who made it to the NBA FINALS and it was the second round so already you are not correct and spreading misinformation . Yes , last year they lost in the first round of the playoffs to the eventual NBA champions , no shame in that . But in both those years he was missing his right hand man Jamal , without the second best player on the team of course they were going to be underwhelming and last year he along side JM didn't even have MPJ who is the third best player on the team , the hell did you expect Jokic to do .
Now when all players are healthy you see how strong the Nuggets really are , they are 1 game away from sweeping the Lakers and making the NBA FINALS .
For example take Klay Thompson out of the GSW lets say he is injured , you think Steph is going to win the championship without him ? I doubt it , and Nikola last year wasn't just missing JM he was also missing MPJ I mean come on dude , it would have been a miracle for the Nuggets to win , Jokic played well but what can he do on such a weak team at the time . Take the second and third best player out of any team and tell me how well they are going to do in the playoffs .

Edit: it is in fact real. That’s insane and he has over 100 in his career.
very simple formula to guarantee the correct MVP every year: Win Shares multiplied by team wins.
Kendrick Perkins made that MVP race so toxic accusing Jokic of stat padding and pulling the race card narrative
"What else do I have to do?"... apparently not be better than Jokic...
embid begged for it
Kendrick Perkins is the real mvp. He won that award for embiid with his race politics
Oh so very true.
Embid is a joke
Couldn’t have a white guy win it three in a row, NBA needs to keep up with appearances.
The MVP should be given to the best player and most valuable to his team and NBA.
It should be won by all time greats who step it up in the playoffs. ...
For MVPs like Nash, Embid , Malone etc it should be called offensive player of the year ....
Joker and Butler are the best players in the league
Embiid should absolutely give it to joker unnofically
The only reason he lost was bcoz NBA was too afraid to give Jokic 3 straight MVP bcoz that puts him in Greatest Center of all time Convo ,and he is European cant give it to him
He is also Serbian.....
You cant have someone outside USA dominating the league. And on top of that Jokic is Serbian. This was political award and we know it. Embiid is just a sacrificial lamb at this point. Go by: Give him something by giving him nothing.
It’s okay Joel can have the MVP Jokic is gonna go get himself a ring
Keyshawn saying he’s boring means he’s white.
33PPG and 12 of those are FT . The biggest guy on floor is allways on his back. And dont forget how he dodged Denver so he can get that award as he knew he would be destoyed by that Monster from Rocky Mountin called Big Honey
It is all about marketing. Same as what happened to Duncan, a non flashing type of play does not help winning awards. Still, for the really good players, all that matters is that their teams can win it all. Lets hope this time Denver can do it and get their first ring.

That was some great analysis from Keyshawn. How does he still have a job? 🤣
because he has the intellect of a 10yr old, and therefore has the same views and opinions that a typical clueless casual fan would have
It's called black privilege. He can spout whatever ridiculous nonsense, if you disagree, you're the racist.
This reminds me back in the day with David Robinson winning MVP and Hakeem olajuwon took it personal and won a championship because Jokic about to make history this year 🏆
Usually the mvp voters are relatively immune to the national narrative but this year they got sucked in and were ready to move on from Jokic. Note the narrative got so negative for Jokic that he kind of tanked the last 12 games of the season. He knew that if he won 3 in a row the Perk, Nick Wright, etc narratives would have been exponentially worse. He didn’t want that.
Kendrick perkins got him that mvp😂😂
Even Giannis deserved it more than Embid. PER, Value over replacement, and Box Plus Minus do not lie..Jokic all day, 3rd MVP robbed. But a ring will make up for it.
That weird creature you called Keyshawn Johnson is really the prototipe of the guy who ears voices due to the many hits. Let's hope he'll answer the call without hurting someone before
Jokic is about to win an NBA championship; you don't hear him talking about the MVP anymore... so, why are you? I never understand why people make such a big deal about MVPs. It's just not that important. What matters is CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!
It was exactly the same watching Bird. You would barley know he was in the game, untill he hit the winning shot and had a triple double.
The only statistical category Embiid lead Jokic in was points per game. If you factor in the assists each had, Jokic was responsible for far more points per game. Voter fatigue is the only answer, and they're going to look like fools when the Nuggs win it all and Jokic is finals MVP.
Jokic is trying to collect that finals MVP
No thats not why. The league feel sorry for him because he too big to be crying the way he was. That Lebron cry.
My opinion I think the MVP award should be given at the end of the conference finals going into the finals 💯🤜🤛💯
I think it should be given directly after the end of the regular season, not after the first round, because then, the playoffs have no chance at all of affecting the vote
@@Rogue_Centurion True also 💯🤜🤛💯
Uncle Ruckus must be so happy with Jokic
If the Nuggets win the final, he'll have that and the finals MVP, which are way more important.
Don't worry, Big Honey will get 3 more in the next 5 years.
SIXERS CAN PLAY BETTER WITHOUT EMBIITCH. 😂😂😂
Jokic might win the championship and fmvp nick Wright and perkins will look like fools if that happens
And Jokic doesn’t give a f neither he cares 0 percent 😂😂😂
“ I never played basketball to win individual rewards “ Jokic
Even Steven A called him a tub of lard which is highly offensive
It's racist people like Mark Jackson that was hating on The Joker!
Crying to the media so you can gain an award you clearly didnt deserve is outrageous and he should be punished for this unsportsmanship and unprofessional behaviour besides playoffs jokic's regular season was clearly better than embiid's and it is sad that he took away his chance at 3peating the award
When race was brought into the mix by Kendrick Perkins with the support of ESPN, Jokic had no shot at MVP3. It became BLMVP.
They made it about race and stole Jokic's opportunity for three-peating the MVP award.
Reminds me of when David Robinson beat out Olajuwon for MVP. We all knew that Olajuwon was way better and then Olajuwon proved it in the payoffs when they met head-to-head.
too bad MVP fraud joel embiid showed up with 15point performance in game 7 of the second round
Jokic made Keyshon Johnson look sooooo stupid 😂😂😂🤦♂️
Embid won the award as first loser. He got what he deserves. Jokic is after what really matters.
This is the wrong narrative. Nikola Jokic gave up the MVP specifically to avoid this drama and win a ring. Y'all can't let it go?
He's after the NBA crown.. individual awards not too much of a concern..
That's what they called voter's fatigue
Here is what i think: the NBA does not what jokic to be 3 time mvp because he is not american. If he became mvp again,it will go down to history-mvp who is not american.. and man, 3 time consecutive mvp award is tough to beat.. the narrative should be- AMERICA should be the best in the world in all aspects..
