    I think I've watching every video on TH-cam related to the 2012 Passat and your video, Richard, is the most thorough one out there. Simple, to the point and an pleasure to watch. Thanks!

    By far the best presentation anywhere. If I lived out your way I would buy from you but I am near the Chicago area. I plan to get the TDI SEL Premium very soon. Being a "gear head" I always do my homework first and you have been the best teacher in the world. Thanks a millon.

    The engine has sensors that will adjust the timing appropriately for the other octane fuel.
    Don't change octanes all the time, however. Changing octanes can confuse the sensors if you switch between them all the time. Choose one octane and stick with it and the car will be fine.
    Having said that, using high octane gives you best fuel mileage and performance overall.

    @clos8a1 It's the same as the gasoline engine. Every 10,000 miles is recommended. VW uses synthetic oil and it lasts over twice as long as regular oil.
    All VWs since model year 2009 includes free scheduled maintenance for the first three years or 36000 miles, whichever comes first.

  • @RichardCapoVW
    @RichardCapoVW  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @todwcampbell I find it to be like many VWs inasmuch as you love it later, not at first glance but that love stays longer than others.

    I don't like the sensitivity switch for the wipers. I'd rather use the turn or twist type.
    I'm seriously tempted to trade in my 2012 camaro for a turbo beetle. My camaro, to me, is not as fun to drive as the turbo beetle.
    You do excellent reviews! You have a pleasant demeanor. Please continue to do more reviews if possible.

    Hi Richard I'm a long fan on Volkswagen and Audi Cars and we own a independent repair shop for VW and Audi car and other European car I must say that your review of the 2012 Passat is one of the best review I saw of the car the only thing you did not talk about is the mechanical aspect of the car like the only front wheel drive diesel car in America and the DSG transmission and the fact that you can get a 6 speed manual gear box and the different rear suspension compare too the Jetta.

  • @RichardCapoVW
    @RichardCapoVW  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The rain sensing wipers are not activated by default from the factory. The technicians at Capistrano VW will activate them when requested.

    It is actually filled as part of the included maintenance package for the first 36000 miles.
    Filling it after that is very inexpensive. In fact, you can pick up AdBlue for about $11 a gallon at Target. Filling it once will last for about 10,000 to 12,000 miles.

  • @Sedonalegendhelenfrye
    @Sedonalegendhelenfrye 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Richard you are very good at what you do. The one thing I do find troubling; however, is that I rarely see the AdBlue mentioned, or shown in videos. I do find this rather intriguing and wonder if this is on purpose because consumers don't understand the system, or may be turned off by this complication. And it can be a complication, the consumer need keep this filled, it costs more, and the vehicle will not operate if this is neglected. In spite of this, I still may purchase this car.

    I agree with you completely on the styling front, Richard. I love my 2004 Jetta to death and think it looks WAY better than any current new-car offerings... especially something along the likes of a Hyundai Veloster, whew!!

    @V10PDTDI Thank you very much for your comments. There are a few details that I missed, of course. I tried to tailor the information to the questions that I normally get from my typical Passat customers. While people like you and I (enthusiasts) understand the significance of DSG and manual gearbox availability, most mid-size car buyers are less concerned about those details.
    Thank you again for your time and comments. I will do my best to include as many details as I can in future videos.

    Hi Richard, I was looking at the V6 model and it required a premium fuel. What if I end up using the regular fuel unleaded what would be the impact to the engine?

  • @RichardCapoVW
    @RichardCapoVW  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    They're actually quite smooth. The TDI rides quite well. I am not an expert in ride quality, but I cannot tell a difference between the 17" and the 18" wheels.

  • @clos8a1
    @clos8a1 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you have the maintenance schedule for the TDI? I never owned a disel. Please!

    2013 we will see the hybrid Jetta, a hybrid for turbo fans. It'll be much more drivable and fun than current "other" hybrid offerings.
    We'll see a couple of updates to the Golf and GTI probably in 2014.
    The rumors also state that we will see a 7 passenger SUV offering soon.

    Tires: I'm used to the regular profile tires with lots of sidewall. How do these low profile tires ride compared with the tires with more rubber for absorption!?? Seems like they would not ride as smooth.

    Is the fluid just called AdBlue? or do some manufactures call it something else, I haven't been able to locate any retailers.

    The CC is a sportier ride and drive. The V6 Passat is super quick but more of a smooth sedan ride than a corner carver.

    I would put the build quality of the new, USA built Passats up against the previous German built generation any day. The engineering and design is fully German as are the assembly techniques. I have seen no indication of quality issues in the new cars being delivered today. I drive the new Jetta as my personal car and enjoy it. Thanks for watching.

  • @RichardCapoVW
    @RichardCapoVW  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @EdwardAkop It is designed and developed totally by the Germans. The choice to assemble in Tennessee is solely a monetary concern, much the same way a BMW 3-Series is still German when it's assembled in South Africa.

  • @RichardCapoVW
    @RichardCapoVW  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not necessarily. I have asked but haven't gotten a straight answer to that yet.

  • @bbcake001
    @bbcake001 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Huh? Low profile is a lot better than regular side wall tires, it eliminates the unwanted bounce... Absorption? Cars used shock absorption for a reason. This car has one of the best shock absorption...

  • @RichardCapoVW
    @RichardCapoVW  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    AdBlue is what VW calls it.
    It is basically synthetic urea.
    I forget what other people call it.

  • @mazinais31

    very nice video... no time to watch it till end right now tho :)
    but you are spot on about the timeless design - for instance who would want a hyundai sonata from 2 generations ago? it's horrid! - a b5 passat? - yes why not. p.s. im calling the new sonata horrid already... many people will agree with me only after a few years

    Sorry, VWoA -- no wagon, no deal. It's ironic, because the 2001 Passat wagon, which has the perfect size and configuration for us, is what wooded us away from domestics to the VW/Audi family, four of whose offerings we currently own. Fortunately, the Golf-based "Jetta" Sportwagen has grown a bit, so that is on our short list of potential new cars.

    You get more bang for the bucks than Camry and Accord. Better sheer quality than Malibu and Fusion. More prestige and refined than Sonata and Optima. For this price, I can't find a better car. Don't get me wrong. for family who is tight on budget, passat is not the most fuel efficient. I still miss the smaller 2010 Passat. Or the German version of Passat.
