  • Whites Park in Wallisville, Texas is a perfect stop as you travel I-10. This free county park allows up to 3 nights with a permit - a free permit! The requirements are you must be self-contained, email your driver license to the county and they will email a permit back (they didn't get back to us until the next day). The park has picnic tables, trash cans, an equestrian center and a launch ramp for access to the bayou. This was a perfect one night stay as we traveled West on Interstate 10, between Beaumont and Houston. Check out what this free county park in Southeastern Texas has to offer!

Looks like a great place to set up camp! Boo on the trash. I will never understand why people leave it behind either. Hope you enjoy Texas!! - Shane

I meant to say that there are several Nueces County parks in the area with beach access full hookups and showers. Also Padre Island National seashore has camping nearby and you can use your National Park Senior pass.

I really wanted to go to Padre Island - a co-worker from my insurance days used to vacation there with his family - sounded awesome! Next “loop” through for sure (and Big Bend).

Still disappointed I didn't have the opportunity to see you and Jim at Rushmore! Suppose you get what you "pay" for... still so sad to see such careless people who can't take care of the place for others.

That would have been so crazy! Yeah, seemed to be trash leftover from “afternoon parties”. The launch ramp area was clean so the fishermen aren’t the cause. It was still lovely and if I ever stop there again, I will dedicate some time and bring some big bags. Hope all is well!

It was a great stop for the night! Next time through I’d like to check out their waterfront park a bit further to the south.

Thank you for this walk-around video, Heather. We've had our eye on stopping here for some time and your video is an excellent supplement to your Campendium post on White's Park. Bet we'd have fun together if we bumped into one another. We're former full-time cruisers before swallowing the anchor and moving on to other traveling modes. Campendium reviews didn't quite indicate just how big and forested the park is, which is why we found your video so helpful. Again, thanks!

Wow! That's so cool you were cruisers too! That's pretty much what we did - sold our cat and started land traveling. Sure is easier if it's windy (no anchor dragging off our bow...)! Other than the garbage next to the water, this was a great overnight stop. The City does have a more waterfront area further South of here, that if we were going through this area would try. It might be more of a parking lot / launch ramp style camping area, but hey - it's by the water. Once a water person, always a water person. What kind of a boat did you have and where did you cruise?
If heading in to Louisiana at all, we stayed at a few great State Parks (and depending on you age, they give a great senior discount)! Happy & safe travels!

@@TravelSmallLiveBig Thanks for the kind note, Heather. Most of our cruising was on a Pearson 424 ketch. A Caribbean Circle, then prepped it for Europe, 4 years in N Europe & the Med, then prepped again for the SoPac, and headed for the Canal. Sold WHOOSH in Brisbane and lived there a while - a 'must' on any bucket list, we thought. Now slogging our way east for FL, dragging a trailer about like yours. If you remember any of those LA state parks that are near I-10, we'd welcome hearing about them. Have a grand time!

Impressive! We did about 4 years on the West Coast of Mexico & a lot of Southern California / Channel Islands sailing. We have had a LOT of friends cross the Pacific! I'm sure we have had some mutual boats cross our paths.
I think the LA ones we really liked were off I-10 a ways - Lake Fausse Point & Palmetto Island (videos on these). We did stay at Fontainebleau to explore a little and sit out a 36 hour rainstorm. There were sites there that had a lot of standing water...
In Alabama we stayed at Citronelle Lakeside, Meaher & Blakeley (videos on all 3) and those are close to the Interstate.
We might be heading down in to Florida - our Imagine is in for a few warranty items, so we are staying at my brother's in NC for a bit. Hope to get back out there soon!

@@TravelSmallLiveBig What a resource you are! Good luck on the RV repairs; sometimes seems to take forever to get fixes done in our experience. Nice you have a home base while the home is in the shop!

Hi Heather and Jim, I have been following your channel for a couple of years now. I am an Rpod owner (2015 178). I don't know your itinerary but if you're looking for free camping along the Texas coast you might try out Port Aransas Texas. You can camp on the beach for free and walk into town. They do require an annual beach access permit which I think is $12?. Also there are several in the area

Love to hear this - thanks for following along! We really wanted to do some of the Texas coast, but had a few sets of friends to visit so ended up inland. I will have several other Texas videos soon and we will be back! I sure appreciate your suggestions. 😁
