  • I'm headed to the inside passage through Cape Hataras on this Sceptre 36 foot sailboat and I see Coinjock on the chart! WTF? Why coinjock? Lets sail to this famous cruising destination and see what's up on our way to the Bahamas..

    Hey mike i really love your videos. Your channel is now my new favorite, and your videos give me tons of hope! I am currently working on my own boat to do the same voyage from toronto to grenada and beyond. Right now shes stored indoors at the toronto outer harboaur maina so i can work on her all day everyday throughout the winter. The goal is to get her into the water this summer (a massive refit has to finish before that).from there i will have to finalize many little projects over the next year before i depart. when winter comes i plan to stay somewhere on lake ontario as a liveaboard so i can gain as much experience with my new boat and all of her systems on board before i leave for the Caribbean with my girlfriend September 2025. Its crazy how good that feels to share that with someone who is literally living my dream.
    Fair winds and following seas! We'll see you out there someday!

      #1 engine
      #2 rigging and mast
      #3 will and funds
      #4 The balls to untie those lines and leave the dock with a massive undertaking. The day you commit is the day you are free from all the baggage your thought you threw away. Now is the time to move forward and free your self. A life a sea is not what what you think it will be.. But you will have everything you really needed..

    Hi, Mike. Thanks for taking me along this part of your trip. In 1988 I was sofa-surfing from Ft. Story and Chesapeake, VA to Eliz. City, NC and the shores of the Albemarle sound for most of the year.
    But, I never managed to get onto the waters of the ICW, even though they were all around me.
    So thanks for helping fill out some of the geography for me and what I missed there in VA and NC. It's been 35 yrs.
    Good luck with warmer weather. Fair winds and all that....

    Hey there Captain Mike! This is the first time commenting on any video on TH-cam. You are following a similar path that I took except that I made the decision to go around Hatteras. That got me in big trouble. 74 knots of wind and my foresail unfurled!! I lived in the outbanks at the time and new the area, but the weather did not forecast what we ran into. Good decision to avoid that area on your part. I lived in St John years ago and was going back with my own boat this time until my situation changed. Had to sell her, but I am feeling that itch to get back out there! I’m enjoying your story! Safe travels!

    • @sailingEV888
      @sailingEV888  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This area of the inside pasage of Hataras pre Abermarle sound is wide channels of shallow water with the ICW dredged out to a 50 ft area to sail. Abermarle sound its self is 20 to 30 ft at its deepest point. There is a marked channel across abermarle sound which is a part of the ICW. You would be smart to stay within the marked channel as this area is dredged and maintained by the Army Corps of engineers. Abermarle is notorious for its unpredictable weather. Most of this part of the ICW is essentially a 50 ft channel even though in some areas its as wide as 4 nm.
