Good evening Dirk, maybe German like me. The first reaction in our media is quite polite, they speak of a sensational come back. But in the following days the analyses would be more profound. Imagine how the Murdoch papers would have reacted if Angela Merkel had resigned, her successor had failed and she came back.
However, our media is more critical with Liz Truss, DPA has published a comment on the Yahoo site. Her visions of a Singapore on Thames have crashed, but one should not forget Boris Johnson had a similar vision, check his speech at the last Conservative conference before Corona at the end of 2021. Result: Standing ovation.

Many of the people that support and defend Boris are convinced he got Brexit done. It was actually Brexit fatigue and the inability of the Theresa May government who failed to get a majority over 2 years to pass Brexit legislation that got Brexit done. People like him because they find him funny and they see him as a "patriot". They don't care about any of his corruption or amoral behaviour.

I saw a lot of sense in the way he explained his view at that point in time... Seeing some people actively encouraging Johnson to come back to the dispatch box as PM, has really solidified Neil's idea. The pattern of finding excuses for the abusive ex, the 'running back' with promises of a better future, memories of only the 'good times, and the painful circle that unfortunately follows in such a relationship, really is telling. We've been gaslit to high heavens and just like in an abusive relationship, some can't be told & can't really see what's going on.
