Here’s a post y’all can go wild on just to reiterate my views... I really enjoyed ranting about Walt btw.
Walter White is the star of this show. This is his show. Just like anything, the person at the top is going to get the most heat and the most attention. Speaking for myself, I put so much focus on Walt because he’s the star and this show is called, obviously, Breaking Bad. Never once have I ever said Walt’s decisions don’t make sense. Guess I was not clear enough in this video with my stance on him but the idea that anyone is safe around Walt is a joke. He will take out anyone he needs to do preserve his interest. Certain people obviously have a longer leash than others. Just because I harp on Walt as this bad dude (can’t debate that), it does not automatically give Jesse a pass for his errors. They do not make Hank’s actions OK. Loving the Walt and supporting his actions are not one in the same. I do not agree with most of what he does and he clearly has other options but I will acknowledge it wouldn't be as fun if he just took the money at the start and never started making meth. Obviously that's the show. Again, a broken record here, Walt is one of the, if not the greatest characters I’ve ever watched and it’s not for his good deeds, it’s for his character arch and amazing transformation. Is this clear enough for you? Doubt it... ha!!!!!! And anyone getting to this point, we will make a strong effort to watch as much as we can to finish up but we do not want to rush it... there’s so much to unpack, we want to make sure to do it right. -S

Nikki & Steven React, 💙💙💙 You guys have explained that so many times- great character who’s a horrible person. It’s a shame that it continues, as you said previously, to go over people’s heads. This is a superb show that did its job in forming a wonderful villain- as we know, the best villains are not one dimensional, which is why Walt is so fun to watch in action. He’s a fully formed bad guy. Such an enjoyable viewing experience with all of the ups and downs of the emotional roller coaster we are put on. I hate Walt as a person but love him as a character, regardless of how I feel about others on the show. Side note: The first time I watched the show, I rooted for Walt until the very end, no matter what he did. Rewatching has changed my perspective. I have a complete appreciation of the character’s development and what Vince Gilligan has done, not just simply rooting for the underdog anymore. This show is a masterpiece.
Edit: After reading some of these comments, sheesh. Some of the condescending, swipe-taking, covert insults... it’s so unnecessary. To think, this all began because some were upset or even outraged that Nikki & Steve expressed reactions of disgust, anger or disdain for Walt and some of his actions. Then Nikki & Steve ‘had to’ defend or explain their feelings about it... repeatedly. Many seem to forget that the original outrage towards anyone was of those who questioned “how can you not love Walt?” followed by various explanations and justifications of Walt’s actions. All the time, Nikki and Steve maintained that they love the character of Walt but not the person that Walt is. It’s so disheartening to see that we can not all just express our opinions civilly, have productive discussions that don’t include belittling each other, and/or just agree to disagree. Sad.
Also, the idea that some feel like Nikki & Steve are taking an “I’m morally better” high ground for stating their feelings about a fictional character, is absurd.

Lol ..no need to clarify we get what you're saying and it totally makes sense, but it wouldn't be much fun if there wasn't some sort of debate over it. A little back n forth is fun and the interaction has to be good for the channel. Also a lot of us are watching this for the second, third, maybe even fourth time if not more ...so we pick up on things you probably forgot about or glossed over ..if u ever decide to rewatch this series you'll find yourself cutting Walt a little more slack. But yes Walter white broke bad ..hes bad

The thing is that this show is in the same vein as goodfellas or the godfather, its not a show about redemption or being good, its a show about criminals, but whats so great about it, is that even when the show is full of bad guys (jessie, walt, mike, you name it) that cant get redemption for their actions (there's no way to excuse the killings, the narcotrafic, the destruction of families, there's not) they are still so likeable that we want to defend them and think they are good inside, I think the best way to really apreciate the final chapters is to understand that even if the characters are not good, they are not monsters, they are humans and even if we dont agree with what they have done (we cant agree obviously) try to walk in their shoes for a moment, and we'll see just how amazing this how is

It's not bad per say but its somewhat disappointing. Whats been done to Tyrions' character is just tragic. In the previous episode Walt didn't want to kill Jesse, he tried to avoid it, he genuinely saw that option as out of the question when Saul suggested it and when Skylar suggested it, he legitimately did think he could talk to Jesse and 'make him see reason' but when Jesse responded to this suggestion with a vague threat that, at least at that point, was thought to potentially involve Walt's family or going to the police or his money or whatever, he felt he could no longer risk having an unhinged emotionally charged Jesse around potentially causing him real problems, it is only at this point that he reluctantly accepts what both Saul and Skylar suggested as the only practical option.

Not much in this show is black and white, and that includes Walter's character, just like Jesse or Mike or even Hank aren't simply and plainly "good", regardless of whether you feel they are the "good guys".
If you just let your disgust of Walt's actions take control you can easily miss (and it seems that you do) so many of the extra nuances that make him such a complex anti-hero. The show makes you root for Jesse alot at this point but you have to look at a few things out of Walts perspective too. He is a terrible person, no doubt. But he is not like some people say a heartless maniac who fully turned into 'Heisenberg' and doesnt care about anyone but himself. Throughout the show he saved Jesses life so many times. When everyone else like Gus, Mike or Saul and others wanted to kill him Walt refused and protected him even though he couldve just dropped him (Same kinda goes for Hank, people wanted to kill him but Walt never saw this as an option). I mean, Walter literally killed other people to not save his own but Jesses life. Also after he met Janes Dad at the bar he drove back to him, he ditched Gale in the lab and many other things all because he truly cares about him. But now after he tried to reason and explain Jesse why he had to do the things he has done and Jesse still wants to 'burn him to the ground' he got no other choice.
Also the scene where Walter tries to explain Jesse on the phone why he had to poison Brock is interesting. Walt did this because it was the only way to win Jesse back, who he needed on his side again in order to kill Gus who threatened Walt and his family. While most people would say the morally right thing that it was wrong to poison him, i bet if people really were in Walts position and feared for their familys life 99% would do the same.
Im sorry for my english btw, im not a native speaker. It just bothers me a little when people hate Walt so much, without taking his perspective into consideration. As i said before, he is a terrible person without a doubt, but in my opinion alot of the things he did had a good reason and he is not the egomaniac who only cares about himself that people take him for.

Nitro - I understand that Walt has been forced into these horrible decisions somehow (although not entirely, he could have saved Jane, he could have gotten out a few times...) but that's the point: You make the first bad decision, to make meth and get involved with Tuco, Gus, etc. and even wanting not to be too bad, you end up being bad and worse and the worst, because of the entrapments you get yourself into.

    • @quark1153
      @quark1153 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

An important point to consider is that the vast majority of decent people would never get into "Walt's position". Because in the first episode, they wouldn't have decided to cook meth. And even if a few of them would have chosen that path, there were other points in time when Walt decided to continue and advance his criminal career instead of quitting. Getting into some sort of "point of no return" later with Gus was a result of his deliberate decisions. So looking from "Walt's perspective" is becoming less and less tempting throughout the show.
It actually bothers me a little that some people have so much understanding for what a criminal (and no doubt a "terrible person") has to do in self-defense, to provide for his family (who suffers from his actions as well) and to save his criminal friend (who he originally had blackmailed into becoming his partner).

You were SOOOOOOOOOOO happy and then you weren't.
Let's focus up on some important things this episode. When Walt realizes he's lured to the money, he calls for help thinking Jesse has just shown up to kill him.
Once he realizes that Hank is there with Jesse he says this: "forget it. Don't come. DO NOT COME."
Then when Jack shows up he immediately tries to warn Hank then starts screaming "JACK DON'T DO IT!!"
Could the man be anymore emphatic that he doesn't want his family to be hurt when his own brother in law shows up and renders everything he's done over the last year completely useless as well as giving Walt a literal death sentence and Walt STILL refuses to kill him?
Do you know what would have happened here if Walt was the embodiment of pure evil that you think he is? Walt would've waited behind that rock for Jack and his crew to show up to kill all of them and not done a damn thing to try and stop it.
Also it's not that Walt only ever thinks his own ideas have merit. When Saul suggested they kill Jesse, Walt had not yet exhausted every option to try and talk Jesse down. Only after the end of the last episode when Jesse skipped out on their meet and called Walt saying "I just wanted to let you know, I'm coming for you" did Walt decide that there was no other way, Jesse had to die.

This situation arose because of Walt's decision to become a meth cook. Prevaricate all you want - every bad thing that happened in this series hinged on that decision. Hank worked with the DEA, so Walt made this _him vs. Hank_ the moment he chose to go to the _other_ side of the law. This is the consequence of that. It's like Walt said about Gale, long ago - when you make it Walt vs. Hank, Hank loses. And Walt chose to make it so.

“Now, ALL OF THE SUDDEN, he wants to kill Jesse.” All of the sudden??? This has been a long time coming and he’s done everything in his power to save Jesse. I don’t understand the blind love for Jesse when in reality Jesse is the root cause of almost all their problems.
1 Jesse gets Jane back on drugs (probably even shot the OD himself) which kills her, triggering a catastrophic plane crash and hundreds dead.
2 Walt hires Jesse and offers him half of all his money for no other reason than to save him from Gus and to keep him from destroying Hank's life.
3 Jesse shows his appreciation by stealing from the kingpin out of pure spite
4 Jesse goes on a suicide run trying to off the 2 dealers, and gets saved by Walt, which basically puts him in a 1-man drug war against Gus.
5 Jesse then turns on Walt, leaving him at the mercy of the same guy he was protecting him from in the first place
6 After miraculously surviving, Jesse bails on him after he's lost all his money and his family. He just walks out.
7 After Walt pays him everything he's owed, and keeps him outta jail, Jesse rats him out to the DEA.
Also Jesse leads Hank right to the RV in the salvage yard, causing Walt to have to make up the Marie accident story.
    I will always defend Walt.

1 Walt allows Jane to overdose, despite knowing how to save her and knowing the threat of danger.
2 Jesse only got beat up in the first place because Walt and Saul used a lie about Marie to scare Hank.
3 Jesse taking a small fraction of the meth that he cooked himself is utterly inconsequential to the plot, so I'm not sure why you even bring it up.
4 This is probably the best thing Jesse's done in the entire show - trying to punish two child murderers. Walt couldn't give two shits.
5 Jesse didn't 'turn on Walt'. He was stuck between the manipulative machinations of Walt and Gus, both of which wanted him to kill the other. In the end, he had to sacrifice his morals to save Walt's stupid stubborn ass.
6 After they both miraculously survive, Jesse decides he's not cut out to be a criminal anymore - after Walt pushes him away from everybody he cares about and tries to control his every move.
7 After Walt tries to manipulate him with the money he initially refused to provide, Jesse finally realizes that Walt POISONED A CHILD. And that's the final straw that convinces him Walt is irredeemable.
Also, Walt could have warned Jesse that Hank was onto him. Badger even asked 'what about Jesse?' and Walt refused to include him. It's Walt's fault Jesse flew off in a blind rage.

I'm definitely not defending Walt, he's a bad dude, who's made some real bad decisions, but I can definitely UNDERSTAND every single action Walt has done and why he's done it. It doesn't excuse it, but I do think there is a level of sympathy to be had there. Walt's biggest flaw is not being able to see the unintentional consequences that arise due to his decisions. It's really brilliant writing and props to the creators of this show that most of the blood on Walt's hands are indirect. I think people can defend him more because he's normally not the one who actually pulls the trigger, but he's indirectly responsible for so many deaths so far. I can't defend Walt at this point, but I can certainly understand and even to a degree sympathize with the everything that Walt has done. For all Walt knew Jesse was willing to kill him and his family so he had to kill him first . And since you guys keep on being sympathetic and praising Jesse Walt's life went shit the moment he saved Jesse's life from those two gang bangers . That moment he chose Jesse over Gus and what did he got ? Jesse completely left him out high and dry and went to salud with Gus . Gus then saw Jesse more obedient and started manipulating him towards him through Mike . Also yes he did killed gale but nobody asked for it . No one . Not even Walt . He fucked up multiple times because he's reckless and impulsive. Walt tried his best to fix everything not just for him but Jesse and for his family as well.
Gus threatened to kill Walt's family and no one is willing to help him. He's alone against a juggernaut and that drove him to poison Brock just to win Jesse back. He's desperate because he wanted to protect his family. If only Jesse helped Walt right away, bet Brock wouldn't be hospitalized.

Walt should have had Jesse killed just after he started working for Gus.
"This is the last money you will ever earn in this business"
"Just try and stop me, bitch"
This would have never led Hank to the RV at the junkyard, beating Jesse up and getting suspended. Walt wouldn't have had to lie about Gale to get Jesse to the lab to keep him from suing Hank with assault. If Hank didn't have to surrender his gun, the hit by the cousins may have turned out differently. But Hank may have never discovered his love for rocks.. err I mean minerals.
Jesse was never satisfied with working for Gus. He was making a small percentage of what Gus was making, he started stealing and selling at the NA meetings where he met Andrea, finding out who killed Combo and taking revenge. Walt should have let the gang bangers shoot Jesse. Or let Mike do his “full measure“ and Tomas would be alive at least.
So Hank may have never been crippled, Brock never poisoned, Andrea and Tomas still alive, Walt and Gale might still be working at the lab drinking coffee and reciting poetry. On the other hand, imagine Walt or Gale having to go to Mexico to teach the cartel chemists.

Walt taught him how to cook proper so that he could make millions after he dies. Walt paid for all of Hanks physical therapy or Hank would probably never have walked again. Walt also killed several people to protect Jesse and their business, when Jesse wasn't able to do it. Walts life would have been so much easier if he just let Gus kill Jesse like Gus wanted to. Yet Jesse turns on Walt and appreciates nothing Walt has done for him. Walk also brought $5 million in cash to Jesse's house and gave it to him. Walt did not have to do that.
