I thought all the welding was done, but... The passenger door had some fitment issues and needed slight modifications, so there you go, more metalwork!
I would be willing to bet lunch that the factory door gap on the bottom was larger than you have it now, On mine I will strive to take as much attention to detail as you have. Now that weather here in MN is getting warmer I'm starting to work on it again. Thanks again for posting these videos.
Yeah, the gap is a bit small now, but the whole bottom is uneven and needs to be straightened. I will do that when I take the door off again and the gap will be back to normal
Congrats for not complaining about Triumph build quality or considering welding the door permanently into the door frame. Just sayin' many here are impressed with your patience, craftsmanship, and resolve to do the right thing.
Yeah, the gaps and panels fitting are the most important thing for me in a restored car. I might see a beautiful paintwork, nice and shiny enginebay.... But if the gaps are not right or the door sticks out of the sill that ruins everything.
Hi Elin, love your videos. Any ideas how I might "fill" a gap where the bottom corner of my Spitfire's bonnet is 10mm further from the front edge of the door than at the top (the front corner of the sill lines up with the door fine). Just adding some sheet to a folded edge doesn't seem right to me. You seem to know all the best tricks.
Hi, James. It is hard to say without seeing the car, but it seems like your bonnet is misaligned. If my guess is correct your horizontal gap between the bonnet and the sill (perpendicular to the door to bonnet gap) is more open at the front than close to the door. In this case you should drop the front end of the bonnet down from the hinge. That is my only guess, but again, without seeing the car I can't tell for sure
@@RustyBeauties if you find yourself bored one day have a look at my channel. The most recent video has some passing shots of the side in question while I'm sorting the catches. I'm not up to doing the body work yet but was just watching this video of yours and thought I'd pick your brain. You may be right about the hinge, as it needs rewelding.
@@RustyBeauties P.S. Mines got the exact same clutch fork pin issue as yours did. In fact you video on it meant I spotted the issue straight away, thanks for that. I'm going to work on fixing and videoing it in a few weeks.
Elin. If you had made the cut and then put a good tack it the middle and then cooled it rapidly the bulge would have been pulled out. You can then reheat the tack and cool and each time it would pull in slowly. Think about expansion gaps when you weld two pieces together. Good job. Love your Videos.
Nice job on the door. IMHO, the gap is too small on the bottom and when you add primer and paint, it might hit. An 1/8 inch gap would be about right and would match the sides of the door and fender. Great videos. David
I left the gap a little smaller on purpose. I still need to straighten the bottom of the door, it is a bit wavy now, but it is hard to grind as the door is on the car. So I will mark it with masking tape before I take the door out again and grind it on the bench
G’day Elin. I reckon you might still have a little problem with your space at the top of the door, where you cut the slot. It could just be the camera angle. Love your work. Cheers.
I'd check the bottom of that door again Elin, it looked a bit uneven to me and with paint on you don't want regrets, I'd just take the door of again and be sure.
Yeah, it is a bit uneven, but I will straighten it when I take the door off again. That is why I left the gap a little too small too. It is not easy grinding while laying on your back :)
You know you said your front the front bonnet with the lights are on pointing upwards if you look at your wheel arch front wheel arches they are up too high they're not Low Down between the with the tires I don't think you got your boats right because your front end is pointing upwards
So if one didn't have a Mig Welder, then that's where all the brazing comes from with Tush's car . . . What would you do if you didn't have a Mig Welder ? ? ?
I would buy one or ask someone if he can lend me one. Buying one would have the advantage that you would never have to worry about it anymore. Of course, such devices have their price, but the more often they are used, they pay off. cheers Bernd
It was way too big in the middle. Now it is a little smaller than normal, but the bottom is also wavy so I still need to straighten that door when I take it off again. That will make the gap bigger again
So.... How many hours did that door take you? Nice job though. Kind of like beating your head against a wall eh? Feels so good when you stop. There was a lot of pixelation in the video after your video card error. I couldn't really see much detail in your end result because of the video quality. As long as you are happy, I'm happy. Cudos my friend.
I see where you are going again :) I am not buying a new door! That's like telling a guy who loves fishing that he could just go buy the fish from the store and save on all kinds of fishing rods and time fishing LOL. He loves doing that! I don't see anything wrong with the video quality. At least it is not worse than before. That error was just because the video couldn't be saved and got lost. But after I changed the SD card everything was fine. Check your TH-cam video quality settings.
I'm not suggesting you buy a new door. I wouldn't either after you put all that time and work into it. That one is already done. It just needed some tweaking. Besides, it's good practice. I was just wondering how much time you had into it now. And, I like kidding you. My computer was having problems with loading videos. Maybe that's why I was seeing over pixelated images. I restarted it and it seems better. As I said my friend, "As long as you are happy, I'm happy". Have a good day!

The door was fitting well before my repair, so there is nothing to complain about :)
Nice work Elin, well done. Kind regards, Richard
Thanks
Are you building a boat? Looks like your body fitment is good enough to float! Well done.
Yeah, the gaps and panels fitting are the most important thing for me in a restored car. I might see a beautiful paintwork, nice and shiny enginebay.... But if the gaps are not right or the door sticks out of the sill that ruins everything.
Turned out nice.
Thanks
Mighty fine gap you have there Elin.
Still needs a little grinding, but that's will be easier once I take the door off again
Great gaps, well done.

I am sure it is the camera. I am really happy with how the door matches the body now

Was talking about the persons that did the previous repairs on Tush's car
door gap looked fine ,now its to small, you better get yrself sum glasses lol
