I don't know exactly how many of these survived the war, but i'm pretty sure they have one of these in the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa (ontario). I was just there in September 2023, and took pictures of it (and a Panther they had, they also (sadly) had a destroyed sturmgeschutz 3). The reason I remember it so vividly is that I couldn't even get the barrel of the weapon and myself in the same picture when using a selfi stick, unless I went far away. It was crazy how long the barrel was...

This is one of my favourites.
I have been for a ride in.the one at The Australian Armoured Museum in the commanders position.
It was a fantastic ride and something I will never forget.
Its low silhouette is definitely an advantage.
    A potent machine 😊🥰
Its nice to see you recognise the Ace as ofthen these men are overlooked in favour of the Tiger Aces. Its a shame he was killed by the American sniper.
    Great video. Thanks

The first one to appear in the video was at Aberdeen Proving Ground many years ago.....have many pictures of it when I visited.....one of my favorite tank destroyers.....was parked next to the Jagpanther....you can see it also in the video.....

The L70 variant didn't show up in Normandy, so the story at the end doesn't make ANY sense on how the Pz IV L70 performed. It was most probably an ordinary Jagdpanzer IV with the old PAK 40.

Correct, Rudulf Roy did all that damage with the L48 cannon. He won the RK and so did his Gunner Fritz Eckstein.

"Supergun" was preety much the same as on Panther tanks... And you dont have a turret. And you dont have those fancy wide tracks. And you dont have 100mm of armor on turrets front, nor sloped 80mm on hull. But, tbh, if they used P4 chasis... However, ordinary P4 with longer barrel could penetrate many sssr tanks and spgs (except IS series), it was very good against t34, which soviets had in tens of thousands.

Heinz Guderian wanted to wrestle control of the Stugg III from the Artillery section of the Wehrmacht which they were assigned. After a lot of political infighting he was denied from this action. He therefore created his own Assault Gun units. The Pz IV L70 was an excellent Tank destroyer but not many of them were made.

thanks for detailed information! always it's top norch. it's really interesting that Germany built so many varieties of armoured vehicle with limited resources!

the L70 jagd didn't have a bugged engine; unlike the L48. Heavier gun makes tank go faster.

Great video. To me, the design still seems to be something from the future

@4:10 Because they couldn't have just called it the StuG IV.

There was a Stug variant based on the Pz IV chassis called Stug IV.

germany startedbarbarossa too late and with to light guns, to light ammunitions,to light panzers.
The KV tank and IS tanks of Russia showed up on the battlefield
long befor the panthers, tigers tanks...
So a lot of german soldiers died unnecessaRy
due to bad forsight, preperations, knowledge of opponent strength, the terrain and the weather compared to europe...
Plus Hitler reduced his fine european winning generals for just being advisors.. Contrary to Stalin..who made himself a helper of his winning generals..
No1 to blame then Hitler himself.. for all the lost energy, work, german soldiers, future
starting for his speeches after ww1 in 1920....

Heavy late spring rains meant Hitler could not have started Barbarossa earlier. The Pripiyat marshes on between Poland, Belorussia and Ukraine were impassable except for a few causeaways. He had to wait for the water to recede in order to use those causeways.

Hitler started Barbarossa too early. Needed to conquer England, use it's resources. Instead lost a two front war.
      Again

@@redtobertshateshandlesyeah, herr Hitleroo should have waited to be attacked by Soviet Union few weeks later...
The cuddly Soviet Union which had over 20,000 warplanes and over 21,000 tanks…and over 5,000,000 soldiers in their armed forces before Germany's preemptive strike…which far outstripped anything Germany had.
That cuddly bear had attacked Poland and Finland, occupied Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, part of Romania with threat of War. Parts of Poland and Finland were taken by SU after wars(which was why nobody wanted to fight with Soviet Union)…in less than 2 years.
Can't imagine why Stalin talked about war against Germany in front of military graduates(officers) of May 1941 while at the same time believing that Germany would not invade(we will wage war against Germany who is our ally…not suspicious at all LOL)…
Just like Soviet war plans they had in Military District Headquarters in the West. Germany preemptively attacked and Soviet military head honchos had to improvise. Soviets had plans, but not defensive ones. So what kind plans are left if they weren't defensive? Why, attack plans...
