    The real Tommy was even more fucked up as his movie counterpart. He once shot a man, a total stranger, in the middle of the street late one night when he was in his late teen. He once tried to rape the real Karen Hill, too. Everything about the murder of Batts was true, apart from the welcome home party and the shine box remark happen a few weeks prior to the actual murder. They really did wake up his mother (played by Scorsese's actual mother here) and she made them a meal all the while Batts was still alive in the trunk. Everything about Spider is 100% true, too. Some theorize John Gotti, the last great Italian American mobster and who was close friends with Billy Batts, either presided over Tommy's death, or killed him himself. The meat truck thing was true, too.

      The real Jimmy Burke was also worse than the person De Niro played . He was a sick guy

    • @kylewestlake982
      @kylewestlake982 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @SJ-ty5rw totally. The other thing about the Batts murder was that the guy De Niro played took over Batts's bookie business and was making good money off it with some basketball points shaving scheme. Batts demanded it back, and Jimmy Burke wasn't keen on doing that.

      @@kylewestlake982 The way Henry told it, Jimmy and Tommy were making so much money for the bosses off the operation while Batts was away that they were reluctant to give it back to Batts after he left prison. This infuriated Batts which is why he publicly humiliated Tommy. He figured Tommy had no choice but to just take it since he was a made man and they weren’t.
      Another interesting thing is that Batts was part of the same crew that John Gotti belonged to. They put in a lot of work for the Gambino Family. So Batts wasn’t just all mouth. He ran with a crew of seasoned killers who were highly respected by their boss the same way Jimmy’s crew was by his boss.

    India, you are a fountain of wisdom. The real life story was even messier, but I agree with you. The Godfather is cinematic and iconic but Goodfellas is more detailed and nuanced.

      The Godfather is also fictional. It’s really good fiction and a believable story. It’s still rich with detail but the story tells itself. Goodfellas uses a narrator to tell the story. I think the details support the narration more than they support the narrative, if that makes any sense.

    The scene with Billy Batts where Tommy and Jimmy killing him over the shine shoes insult it was actually because Billy Batts had a loan shark business before he got locked up and Jimmy took it over and made it a million dollar business so when Billy Batts come home he wants his business back and Jimmy refused to hand it over

    Awesome reaction. Goodfellas was so influential that filmmakers throughout the 90s imitated it-- from his use of popular music to Scorsese's photography (the long tracking shot when they went through the basement of the Copa was particularly used in many movies). The comparison between The Godfather and Goodfellas is like comparing fine Italian cuisine to pizza. The Godfather was classical opera--Goodfellas was street music.

    • @gacaptain
      @gacaptain 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was about to say the same thing. When Goodfellas came out in 1989 in a lot of ways it was different than any movie before it. And as time went on more and more directors and producers started imitating or using many of the elements that made it so special.
      Also, I hear alot of people say The Godfather was just as realistic about the mob as Goodfellas it’s just told from the perspective of a boss instead of street level guys but no. Most bosses are street level guys that rose up the ranks. You can’t really convey what the real mob is like and leave out how treacherous, ruthless and dishonorable the whole thing is structured. The Godfather is a romanticized version of the mob not a high level version.

    I read Pileggi's book based on over 40 hours of interviews with both Henry and Karen. The movie didn't have time to cover half the crimes he, Tommy And Jimmy did, including extorting stockbrokers, I.D./Credit Card theft and paying College basketball and football players to throw games.

    Morbid Facts part 1 Goodfellas.
    1. The real Tommy was a complete psychopath because 1 of his relatives was in the Mob and was a rat. So Tommy tried to show extreme devotion to his "family," while going on a k*llling spree until he himself was k*lled.
    2. The real Tommy was over 6' tall, and he was built.
    3. Henry Hill was a "Wack Packer" from The Howard Stern Show.
    4. The real Tommy was actually chopped up into pieces with a chainsaw by Gotti himself or one of his associates. It was Pauly that told the Gambino family because when Henry was in prison, Karen was having an affair with Pauly and Tommy once tried to r@pe Karen. She told Pauly, and he let the Gambino family know. "And that's that."

    Great reaction to a great film, first post I saw on your channel- I subscribed. I'll be checking out everything. I watch a lot of reaction content but I'm picky about who I sub to and watch frequently- I really appreciate the way you avoid one of the cardinal sins (lol) of movie reaction- the tendency of creators to excessively mind read the characters, as if trying to outsmart them, leading to what's usually a string of uninformed fail predictions about the plot. Of course speculating about "what's gonna happen next" is part of the fun of movie watching- I like you know how to do that in an entertaining and smart way, without looking silly or dragging down the reaction experience for the audience. Very fresh thank you.

    If you want the truth about this film and movie on Henry Hill, you have to understand this. This movie is actually based on the real die Henry, JR Hill, and he grew up in New York and that is all he knew like you said, and not only that the mob family known as the Casey crime family Was helping him to grow up to be the man that he is. He wanted nothing to do with the violence, except for the fights when it is due to it this did happen and gave it justice to
    This did happen to Henry Hill, and Tommy, Dimone and James Burke, and Paul Cicero they’re all dead of old age. James died of pancreatic cancer in prison. This is the based on the real case of the crime family tipped off by Henry Hill JR, who was named after his dad, who was abusive ass, and a drunk he needed alternative caring, family because his real family wanted him to see the real life has been American citizen. If you go back to watch the documentary on Henry Hill, they made couple of them were showing about his family life lead to the Lonza heist, orchestrated by him and tipping off Jimmy Burke. That is what it’s called. You got a tip off about it, and since he was not a part of it was a crime and whatever that falls on it or the violence, he wanted nothing to do with it, and his dad wanted him and his children to stay away from the mob lifestyle and the mafia or course of Orchestra I know I seen a lot all these movies. You might like the one on pearl lotion with the movie with Gabriel Burton, Marsha Garten, and Albert Finney and John Totoro, starring and the movie known as Miller’s crossing email like the movie. Very cool.
    And I actually liked it, but here is the theme. The mafia is very much real. Their real name is the caster Orchestra that pushed the mob and the mafia families working together and wants nothing to do with drug dealings straight. Criminal gains does that kind of crap in the first place. That is the story that you should know go back and watch the documentary on, the life of the real Henry Hill, and you can find the one on Henry Hill, JR in the biography channel or you can find the one known as The story behind the man himself is Henry Hill not Dad, the guy that day allowed Ray Leota, who recently passed long time ago and all that, so yeah, the real Henry Hill took down the leadership of the Casey crime family who was involved with the Lonza heist John Kennedy airport Heist look it up you know I am not lying Because Henry Hill, JR actually Told his own story there’s a book that he did, but his wife to extent to the mafia and also Jimmy Burke wanted to help Henry to beat the rap in the real story but in that diner on 1980 he told Henry that he wanted to help him to beat the wrap that then he was doing this during the time or after the time didn’t rid of those that got sloppy with the money that they earned from the Lufthansa heist of John Kennedy airport so I told you it was a tip off from the road Henry Hill, Junior, and all that going on, but you have to understand that you need to look into the real story before you do a movie reaction like this no Henry Hill died of old age and Paul behind Paul Cicero did die so there is no mafia retribution. They work underground and they do not even operate until this day but criminal Street gains is completely different than that movies on them as well drugs, some game I don’t know , I have seen it on movies or getting into fights on their own by doubt to tell you Darrell Hill JR rat them all out as long as he gets out of it if you want to know those documentaries here, Summerall
    The life of Henry Hill biography channel
    The real Goodfellas documentary
    There’s only only ones I know, but they have made another one too. He was a fact not Italian, but he he was a fact, Sicilian immigrant, because I was Mom. She came to New York as an orphan. She met up with a part-time boxer, and. electrician which is that far and sun union? I said look this up you can go online door into TH-cam and check up on the documentary on the life of Henry Hill. It will show you that he expose that world and now we have movies about the port, Orchestra, a.k.a. mob mafia, they all are ran by Don’s and godfathers. I know I seen these movies too. I love them a lot they’re pretty cool not the lifestyle no just the way the day portray these things. I don’t care about violence I seen horror films I see that enough of that more than any else, so now you know enough to move on and I have to do is go to that documentary and look up the name of
    Henry Hill JR, you’ll know that is his name. If you look at his name up and type in the life story of Henry Hill, you will find the documentary of bam on the biography channel or you can go to that one again and then you will look at the idea that the real Henry Hill story Will be there as well. They named the real Henry Hill documentary. There was another one too called the real good fellas. They are in logical order. Do you wanna check out go ahead
    The life story of Henry Hill biography
    The real Henry Hill full documentary
    The real Goodfellas full documentary
    Play them anyone know the story behind it I don’t know if you did the movie known as Millers crossing. You will know that movie as well as I do it’s a different movie from Donnie Brasco kind of movie see his name no one has Johnny Depp in it so it’s like I said I said enough I hope that this help you out in someway shape form, and I hope that does help you out some matter because if you want to know more about Henry Hill himself, the man behind Ray Liotta after all Henry Hill dead died too, and he also was an orphan child so someways in a lot of ways, both great and his wife is someone somewhere to the real Henry Hill his mom came to America as a Sicilian immigrant who was an orphan at an early age so I just hope they give you something new about this and you do that whole movie. I am now giving you for free and do.
    Feel free to do a first time movie watch on the Miller’s Crossing movie and include my comment about Henry Hill, JR about this because this will give you more information of the mob and the mafia and the caution orchestra altogether it will help out the subway shipment form for you
