  • Traws Eryri is a new route created by Cycling UK, with off-road riding across Eryri National Park (Snowdonia). The route name is Welsh, and means Across Snowdonia, pronounced T-row-s Er-ruh-re.
    Starting from Machynlleth (Mach), heading North, and finishing at Conwy.
    Route stats - 198km, 4350m climbing.
    For my ride, it was not quite so simple, with a 15km to Aber to catch a train to Mach to start, and after finishing another 4-hour train journey and finally a 15km ride back, finishing just before midnight.

    There is a Londis shop in Penmachno which has a few bike spares, only 1/4 mile from the turn off into the woods. Also there is a Spar shop in Dolwyddelan a mile or so along the A470. Both useful on the leg from Ffestiniog to Betws y Coed

      Spar in Dolwyddelan also does good pies, etc.

    Great video to show the route Matt..incredible that you did it in a day. Pity about the early weather but I suppose "normal" for us here. The stip off's at the trial centres sounds a good option.

      Thank you, and we are indeed very lucky. Even in S.Wales, on top of every valley there is great riding.

      I hope you have a little bit better weather. In terms of the actual riding, over a day was OK. Adding on the transport made it a long day out. Will you stop somewhere near Llan Ffestiniog, or perhaps Penmachno? Penmachno will get the biggest climb out of the way on day 1, and that is all on tarmac.

    Good stuff! Congrats on the fast time! Have you used your Trek supercaliber for bikepacking over multi days? Im hesitating between the procaliber and supercaliber for multi-day adventure trips. Also what front light are you using?

    • @MattPage
      @MattPage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You could take it bikepacking, although there are limited bag placement locations. The Procaliber you would have the frame as an extra area. For the Supercaliber the seat and fork, with Tailfin adapters and bags would be the main places. The light is an Exposure Diablo, as I knew I only needed a little extra light. For fully dark or longer trip the Strada and Maxx-D are the best options.

    Fabulous fitness level doing that in a one-r Matt. I got a set of those grips on the way, hoping that I can getvthem onto my Supercal as I have the RSL one-piece bar, I wasn't thinking it thru properly maybes. Is that headset i see a GPS Matt, it doesn't look like a phone/ I want something to nav the route and that looks great up there. Again, well played !

    • @MattPage
      @MattPage  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's a wahoo roam, and I use it for all rides. The navigation on it is pretty good, and fine for things like this where you can easily download a gpx file.

    Nice video, thank you. Which way did you go past Blaenau Ffestiniog? Did you stick to the road, or did you go through Manod quarries?

    • @MattPage
      @MattPage  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It stuck to the road. Near that area there was a very long road climb, and then a fast road descent to Penmachno.

    Cracking video fair play Matt! Would you say the route is do-able with gravel bike set up with 650b x 45mm width tyres?? Thanks

    • @MattPage
      @MattPage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you'll get through fine. A few sections where it's rougher you'll need to take care, but overall you'll be fine.

    Anyone know what those bar grips are ? (Like bar end types)

    • @MattPage
      @MattPage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They are from a company CloseTheGap. They are brilliant, and there is a review here: off.road.cc/content/review/bar-tape-and-grips/closethegap-ergomyride-xc-m-review-12367
