Trolly Jack under the engine take the stress and undo bolts then lower that's how I got mine out without taking the rear off but just put mine back in 2night what a carry on dropped the back wheel off and tried to jiggle the engine while on a trolley jack back in
Hey Dude, thank you for this video! I'm just working on mine and was desperately on the search for a video on how to take the engine out. I actually only wanted to rebuild the cylinder head and was very shocked, when I saw that one of my cylinders has not only rust on the "cylinder wall" but also two deep grooves. I have to have it rebored. Im not a mechanic but until now, I managed to repair everything by my own. Rebuilding carburetors, forks, brakes etc. However, I never had to take an engine apart and the cb500 is special in this regard, because you can't just take the whole "cylinder block" off like on other bikes,...it is necessary to split the engine block in two, and take everything out, in order to be able to work on the cylinders. It's quite a challenge for me and I'm not sure if I can do it. I have one of those cheap repair manuals, but the instructions are very minimal. Do you know of any helpful video or website, on how to take the engine apart? Thanks in advance, happy new year and cheers mate!
Hi thanks for the message. Really glad it helped as that's exactly why I filmed me doing it, to help others aswell as me. It's not too bad to get it out. I haven't taken the engine apart myself before, that's the next thing to learn. I don't know anywhere that shows how to do it. I've had to take mine to someone I know who knows these engines well. I find it really difficult to know where to start with taking an engine apart. No one seems to film it. Hope you manage it. If you have a Haynes manual it will help, but I'm sure there's bits it doesn't show so well.
Cheers for the reply. Glad it's helpful and interesting to watch. Yeah it's quite a nice bike to work on, providing they are not in too bad condition originally. Are you doing a video of it? I've got loads more to come 👍
Cheers mate appreciate it. Yeah I've for a few more to post yet. You'll be able to see the finished thing. It was fun to do as a project, definitely good over winter 😊
You are a life saver! I am (slowly) restoring my CB500 from 2002 and your videos have honestly helped me more than any manual out there! Would you recommend having the frame and swing arms poweder-coated or cera-coated? I am searching for the option that will give me the best corrosion protection. Once again, thanks for the videos. Astonishing work!😁
Hi. Thanks for the nice message, really pleased to hear the videos are helping others. I had mine powder coated. The main reason is it's thicker than cerakote. I think cerakote works better on smaller parts, like the brake master cylinder and yokes. Where as the bigger parts, it works better in powder coat. If you can get the frame cerakoted, it would look amazing and would work very well. Most companies I found, were not able to do parts as big as frames or wheels. But if you know a place that can, give it a try. I found powder coating cheaper too. Hope that helps 👍
What size ultrasonic cleaner do you have? You are on the road to ruin with a cb5 ha. Tracked one for 6 years now, so much fun, who needs litre bikes! I don't race so I use cbr1000rr coil sticks and loom to replace the old coils, it feels more reliable.... Get your angle grinder out, so much to come off. What are you doing with the forks? 20w oil and 125 air gap , standard springs on mine
Hi cheers for the reply. It's a 6L ultrasonic cleaner I have. It sounds like it's massive, but it isn't. I wish I went for a larger one still. You want to be able to get parts in that are larger, like calipers and stuff. Yeah I'm hoping it's fun to race with them. I've got another bike but I want to try keep it as cheap as possible. I know racing is never cheap but these bikes are much easier to get parts for than my RR. Having watched the videos of the CB racing lads, some of them are rapid. So it's not going to be easy to keep up. 😃 Yeah the next video covers all the chopping of the frame and swingarm, I cut quite a bit off. 👍
Yeah with the forks most likely the 20w oil and 130 air gap, that's what I see most seem to recommend. I'm planning to try the standard springs first and hopefully it will be stiff enough for me. I prefer the suspension a little stiffer. I'd love to have it as a track bike where I could make further tweaks like you have, but I have to stick with the Thundersport regulations. You never know, i may get a other one later on to mess with 🤣
Well done. I’m sold my CB500 last year and wish I hadn’t. It was the best bike I ever had.
I've not even ridden this one yet. Looking forward to it 🤣

Hullo again mate, where did you get the race harness from or did you mod a standard one?
Hey. One of the lads on the Facebook racing group made it for me. There's a link in the description to his Facebook page. He makes them to order. 👍

what is the recipe for the engine to be with 70 or 80HP?
