A bit of footage racing with No Limits Racing at Oulton Park. Had a mega weekend with the other CB 500 riders and had some close battles on track. The weekend wasn't all smooth riding, I struggled with my suspension and the bikes handling. Look out for the bike weaving on track, it was especially bad going into island bend. A bit of practice at Oulton Park before my first race with No Limits Racing at Donington park, in a few days time. Amazing work, altough i wonder, why not start with a gpz 500s? They already make 60 hp.
@@Myntsyntes There's a big following for the cb500 for racing, so i just used the bike I had already. I got this bike for £500 in terrible condition. So it was fun to do a complete rebuild. Thanks fot the support, appreciate it 👍

thundersport 500 allow max 52 whp 🍿
@@mociczyczki Hi. Yeah Thundersport doesn't exist anymore. But yeah, the other clubs like No Limits don't accept tuned bikes. I would have to use this in an open race class. I've still got my other standard race bike 😁
@ this cb with 63 whp now be similar fast to sv 650 especially that is lighter than stock do you weight it with full tank i wuesss 175-180 kg full tank it should do 12-12,2 sec e.t. 1/4 mile at close to 170 km/h stock is 13,3 sek /156 km/h 👌🏻 wonder how long weakest part of engine whichstsnd this power assuming relatively fast riding for sure less than stock but be how much 🤷🏻♂️🍿 i stay with me stock cb 500 power its lil sad that manufactpry didint make more lowand midrsnge torq /power but it is what it is peak is ok for me with stock bike 👌🏻 🍿 but 55 nm at 5 k rpm instead of 47 nm at 8000 rpm be amazing like for me but i dont like change stock setup use to it already and scream /rev the 💩 out of it all the time 🤭🤷🏻♂️ otherwise it didnt move to fast 🤷🏻♂️👌🏻🍿
Yes hopefully it will keep up with the SV bikes now. I'm not sure what it weighs, but it would be interesting to find out. Hopefully lighter than an SV bike. The bottom end of the bike is standard, so I'm hoping the extra power doesn't create any problems. I'll soon find out as I thrash it on track 🤣
1:29 At last, somebody who knows how to run an engine in, none of this piddling about at 1/8th throttle for 500 miles.
@@sidecarbod1441 Ha ha yeah, ain't nobody got time to wait 500 miles for it to be done. Yeah @p3tuning know their stuff 👍😎
Hello ! Does the air filter match with the original carburetor ? Is it a K&N ? 0:43 Where did you bought it ? Thank's a lot ! I love my CB but I'm little bit jealous of yours. Well done !
@@11Hirako Hi. This K&N filter had to be adapted to make it fit the carbs. It's too large for the original CB500 carbs, mine are from 900rr fireblade. The filter needed to be cut and reshaped to suit. There's a lot of work that I did on the bike, making custom bits to make it work. I'm sure there are others out there that may fit. I know DNA filters can make one to whatever size you need.
Thank you very much !
Is it still 471cc? if so 63.6bhp equates to 135bhp/L which is not bad, a lot of standard bikes makes this sort of power and super bikes would be berated if they only made 135BHP/L. Still quite a mild tune which would make a decent road engine.
@@MrTench8 The bottom end is all standard on the bike. All we did was top end, cylinder head work, cams and flywheel. Yeah it's a light tune, there's loads more Ben could do with it to add more. The CB is pretty under powered for a bike as standard. It is old I suppose and was only meant for delivering pizza 🍕 🤣
its at whell at crsnk be 70+ 👌🏻 so more like 140+ bhp/L
Awesome - lovely job, well done 😀

But a CR500 tune (a single remember) can make 90HP. Also my KTM 690 Duke (single) makes 73HP...that's progress.....Moral....let the manufacturer get the HP for you!
you are talking about a 2 stroke! Cant compare with this engine.
@@geertmulder6891 Exactly
Well, as said the CR is a 2 stroke and the KTM is 690cc so not sure what your point is .
@@ekspatriat Hi, yeah as the others have said. It's a different kind of engine 👍

Hello. Are there groups of owners in Europe? We have it in Brazil!
@@kennerroberto7322 Hi. Yeah it's very popular for racing with this bike over in England and France. We have lots of these bikes here. They are old but very fun to ride
Hey ! Nice build here ! how did you closed the fuel tank aerator pipe hole on the tank and fuel tap ?
@@mrmaxxbuiss8742 Hi. Do you mean the pipes underneath the tank? I just have heat shrink on them and then I use a cable tie to keep it tight. Hope that makes sense? For the fuel tap, I removed the internal seals from it so it doesn't leak. It removes the vaccum hose to the engine too

Guys, why don't you remove balance shaft ?
@@7sj3Ax Hi, thanks for the comment. I asked Ben who built it, and he said we could have done that and it would improve performance, but would mean having to get the crank balanced and was a bit overkill for the build. We tried to make it as cost effective as we could. 👍
Could one of these bikes last for an endurance race ? What sort of power weight and performance do they have ?
@@hungrysurfer9471 Yeah I would say it's probably one of the bikes that could easily do it. The engines are pretty strong as they aren't really under any stress. Theres talk of setting up a cb500 6 hour endurance race on the Facebook groups i'm on. So might be a something that happens next year. Not sure on weight as we can only remove fairing and road parts, no modifying to make it lighter. Power wise, they are 52hp maximum.
where are you from?
Nice😎
Id definitely get a new shock sorted, i couldn't ride it knowing it wasn't 100% right. Some good close racing there
Yeah unfortunately I only found out at the start of the weekend, so definitely wasn't ideal timing for a race. It has hard work for sure 😀 Thank you, it was mega fun. Bit scary at times when you know you are close to the other riders. But guess that makes it fun too. Appreciate the comment 👍
Great racing..!
Very cool racing. The blue exhaust smoke and metallic rasp would concern me. Buddy of mine returned his cb500 Hagon's for a rebuild after they failed. He has bought YSS in the mean time.
@@johna6968 Hey thanks for the comment. Yeah there's a few I know that have had problems with the Hagons. Guess it depends how long you've had them. It is annoying they can't be serviced, as it makes them useless. They are cheap compared to other shocks, but still annoying you can't change the oil and sort them out. Yeah I'll give YSS a try and see how they are. The loud exhaust rasp is because my microphone is right next to the exhaust can, so it's picking up all the noise loudly. It means I don't get all the crappy wind sounds that you usually hear on videos, but does mean it sounds loud with exhaust noise. Yeah the smoke is quite common on these, especially when you give them a thrashing. Usually when I'm dropping down gears hard into corners.
@@SuggyRacing All the best fella 👍
Suggs, are you running the Ben Coyle motor at this event? Btw, I was hoping to see a dyno session with the BCR engine.
@@Jaded-Wanderer Hi, no this isn't the tuned engine I've been doing, that's in a new bike that I'm building. This one is my race bike I built a few years ago, all standard spec. No Limits pulled me in for a Dyno straight after this race, I guess they were concerned this might not be a standard engine. Of course there were no surprises 😂 Eventually I'll get the tuned bike finished and dyno'd 😂 Just taking me time to get it all finished. 👍

I'm in NL looking at buying a cb for a project. Might take it to the track, but it definitely won't be racing. What have you done to the front forks other than the pre-load adjusters? What do you have for the rear suspension? Sorry if this is somewhere in your socials, I couldn't find it easy
@@thedijon Hi. The front forks have standard springs in them, with a 130mm air gap and 20 weight fork oil. That is what majority tend to use for the front forks. For racing in the UK we can't use the pre load caps. But I did find them good on a track day. The rear shocks are Hagon and all they have is a heavier weight spring on them, that's it. Again, we can't modify them. All I do is run them on the most compression setting. There's also YSS shocks which you can use a heavy weight spring, and use a heavier weight oil. Which I'm going to try at some point. They are a fun little bike to have 👍
@@SuggyRacing Thanks so much! I suppose you don't really have much experience to know if it's worth it to do a full suspension upgrade then? Full upgrades get expensive quick of course
@thedijon You can definitely make it better. You could go all out if you wanted, with a custom cartridge kit. But yeah, it will get very expensive . You can also get better rear shocks with compression and rebound on it, but again it's just cost. Depends how much you have to spend. The fast lads who ride these bikes, have some serious lap times all with standard equipment. So a lot of it, is the rider if I'm honest. 😁
@@SuggyRacing I think you're right, and I think I should stick with a few small upgrades first and see how that feels. Front brakes are definitely #1. I'm gonna try to find that armstrong brake disc you had paired with the standard brake setup, do some lines, revise the cyljnders, and throw in some sintered pads I think
@@thedijon Yeah if you changed the to what I have, that will make a huge difference along with a smaller air gap. On track it works well, but on the road it's no good. Yeah brakes are good place to start, Armstrong disc is brilliant. The standard disc is terrible, it gets too hot on a track. Sintered or race sinter pads are good along with stainless lines. Get some good tyres too. We use Dunlop sportsmart TT. That's pretty much it really. We use flat bars instead of the standard ones, but that's just preference.
