I just wanted to say thanks. Everything you say sounds so obvious ( don't get me wrong), but most of the time we don't realize that. Personally, I was focusing on gathering information every day, search the answer straight forward instead of ruling out options and learn it by heart and my scores didn't reflect my effort, I got frustrated until I watched one of your videos ( Spanish version) and I realized that study hard and smart is not the same. Suddenly my scores went up because of your advice. I'm taking my step 1 in 4 days, you have helped me a lot, I hope to get my goal score. I'm proud of you paisano, keep moving forward.

I’m going to try this. I feel like all I do is study 10 hours a day. And I’m not doing much better than I was at the beginning of my dedicated study.

This method seems obvious but it definitely needs to be heard by students like me who start to panic after not recognizing the answer immediately. I started practicing and incorporating these steps and it made a SIGNIFICANT difference in my daily pre-dedicated uWORLD questions. THANKS A LOT

Good video! Currently studying for STEP, and I quickly realized I was selecting answer choices because I was familiar with them even when I had a feeling that it was wrong. Ruling out things you know and selecting the one you don't know (that's actually the answer) is a good strategy 👏🏾

You make a Really good point . You don’t need to know everything in a question to answer it , hell as you just demonstrated , it seems you only need a few information to answer questions . Of course that doesn’t apply to all questions but it’s a good strategy to save time in studying .
Having said that , I still find it hard not to try to learn every detail in UWorld questions which takes so long when I study . I guess my worry is , what if this information came up in a latter question and was key in answering that question ? and in general sometimes it’s hard to know what’s important and what’s not , since we get overloaded with so much useless knowledge in medical school .
Yes, that’s in fact one of the biggest issues when it comes to prepping. With time one kinda develops a hierarchical lens to judge information on the basis of its usefulness, in order to grab what’s important and left out what’s not. But it will never be a perfect lens, and the qbanks constantly showed me that many concepts I deemed “extra” were actually important. Thankfully there’s plenty of Q&As out there to test your system, refine it, and make you go over the important stuff frequently.

Sure Nahida, my complete experience is detailed in a PDF link I have in the video “What really got me to the 99th percentile” in case you wanna see it. But to answer your question I did one whole first pass and one additional review of marked ones (about 1500qs) used 3 other qbanks but AMBOSS is the only one I’d recommend besides UWORLD

hi Santiago! thank you so much for such an awesome channel that was so needed in this community. i wanted to asked you about your method of doing 2 qbanks at the same time, which i found very interesting and was doing it but without any structure. could you please give me a few tips for this. i currently have active subscriptions for both uw and rx. Thank you so much in advance!
Thanks for the comment! There wasn’t that much planning involved, I usually just run 1-2 blocks of UW in the morning and 1-2 blocks of other bank in the afternoon depending on where I was on my prep

This is my biggest problem. It is awful. Is there a way to rule out? Like sometimes the wording is difficult to interpret into something you can rule out. How do you do it?

@@SantiagoAQ Checked these documents. Thank You for sharing . You put enormous energy into this , that’s why you got high scores. It’s fact that some cases miss important clues, buzz words and decision is based on shallow information. I see the point to do as much cases as possible to explore many angles of material. 😊

How does systemic CO2 absorption causes tachycardia??
CO2 is a potent vasodilator (Drops the SVR and BP initially). To compensate the body increases HR and cardiac output (The so-called hyperdinamic state). There are other contributing factors, such as the increased respiratory effort to flush CO2 (That increases demands of arterial blood supply) and the directly induced sympathetic response, but overall the most “common-sense” principle to rule that answer out is CO2 induced vasodilation.
@@SantiagoAQ oh Ya. Thank you very much. I just recalled the mnemonic CHALK where CO2, high H+, Adenosine, Lactate and K+ causes vasodilation.
