Our very first cruise was on this ship, then called the "Statendam" as it was still with the Holland America Cruise Line. It is natural that we fell in love with our first ever cruise ship. During that cruise in February 2014, which went from Ft. Lauderdale, through the Panama Canal and ended in San Diego, in the "Meet the Captain" forum in the theater, the Captain announced that "this" ship, the Staatendam had been already sold to another company and would be rebranded and re-furbished to the new company's vision. With that announcement there was a fair bit of unhappy passengers in that theater. When the captain was asked why HAL was selling this beautiful Staatendam ship, his answer was that it was for economics, that it takes too many staff per number of passengers to run a smaller sized ship so HAL (Holland America) needs to upgrade their fleet which will be with larger ships so that the balance between staff to run the ship is economically better compared to the number of passengers. The people in the room didn't like that and voiced that to the captain, but everybody knows that no captain has any merit or strength for what accountants decide and that the captains explanation is, for better or worse, the way of the future. One big difference for me for this old Staatendam and this new re-furbished Vasco de Gama ship, is that in the center atrium, there was a tall gold fish - - a work of art instead of that simple white pole, at your 1:30 - 1:35. Watching your video brings back memories of awe to me - as this was our first cruise - of me standing in the specific places and talking to somebody in "that spot", or walking that hallway or eating in that area. I am VERY glad to see that this specific ship, which was Statendam #5 of 6 Statendam ships that Holland America or HAL, has had in service, is still being used and loved by the new company and by passengers. Holland America sold the Statendam to the P & O Cruises Australia and the ship was renamed to the "Pacific Eden". Again, Thank You for making such a beautiful video of the Statendam to me, Vasco de Gama ship to you, and posting it on TH-cam. I know that that amount of editing takes more time than people think.
