It is interesting to consider that ancient and medieval miners would have occasionally encountered the fossil remains of giant extinct animals. in the course of their excavations. Before paleontology this would have been a mystery needing an explanation
This was really interesting! If you did another video like this, you could include The Barnacle Goose, the Tartary Lamb, the Panteon and the Caladrius Bird.
I learned this from the Europa Univeralis 4 event "depletion of the European Beaver": eu4.paradoxwikis.com/Price_Change_events#Depletion_of_the_European_Beaver. Literally every time I play and this event pops I audibly say "depletion of the Euro beaver."
The ant-lion is so dumb. Crazy to think that generations after generations went by, and elders tried to look clever and wise, act like they know more about this creature than the others, and telling tales, sold as realities... And we know that this is not even a mythical creature. But a dumb mistranslation.
Ah, so superior! How many people believe in snake/lizard people now? Or Bigfoot? Or a blooming TON of mistranslations in the King James Bible? You and I both probably believe in something that isn’t actually true-and that is possibly told to us by ‘reliable sources.’😂 Maybe that was your point and I missed it. It isn’t ‘dumb’ it’s just human-we are not perfect and cannot know everything.✌️

Great suggestions! The vegetable lamb is actually my favourite medieval fantasy creature so I may devote an entire video to it even
@LazyChillHistory that's so cool, I love it a lot too
You could even do strange medieval books too
Me, learning that beavers are not just a new world creature. I don't know how I missed that all these years, cool!

@@LazyChillHistory they were almost extinct in the US. The alure of their fur became out of fashion in Europe ended the threat
Wicked bones
That is why a woman can shoot you the beaver.....
